Yes an adventure cart racer with Rare IPs or in the world of Minecraft (with all the texture packs Minecraft has we can have characters from Halo, Rare etc.)

Would love Cartoon Halo and Xbox Live Primetime comeback ! Maybe Mixer can host something like 1vs100 who knows ...

I think they missed the boat on cart racers IMO.

To be honest, I think a more likely route would be a hero shooter (trying to chase the Overwatch/Paladins crowd). Free to play Microsoft hero shooter with all their characters, and have them play exactly as you'd expect them to play (but balanced of course).

Those are predictions but I think jez is pretty reputable. In any event I think of you feel you aren't getting your money's worth you should take it elsewhere.

I'm still a big fan of Forza, Gears and Halo so I'm alright for the time being. Some good stuff is coming this year but again, if this isn't your type of stuff, it's best to move on. I don't see Microsoft changing anytime soon in terms of game output.

I have no problem with people who think what they are doing is great, each to their own, I'm only speaking for myself. 👍🏻

I would fucking love to see Mech Assault return and bring Crackdown 3's destruction in it as well. Could work as SP and MP game.

I have no problem with people who think what they are doing is great, each to their own, I'm only speaking for myself. 👍🏻

But don't forget that Jez has no idea if they have many new titles. For sure there will be at least one new announcement. Didn't we have at least have one new announcement every year from them so far?

But I'm gonna assume Crackdown, Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 and Forza don't interest you? And several indie titles hopefully like Ashen, Cuphead, new Moon Studios game maybe?

If that's the case then I'm done with them, no hyperbole or trolling, people can check my gamer tag if they like, I've spent a lot of money on them over the years but enough is enough. If you don't like what they are doing then it comes to a point where you simply take that money elsewhere for your enjoyment.

doesn't check out, bro

Give how he has reliable sources, the Scorpio stuff in particular shows this, I think if they did have big surprises he would be hinting at it, imo. Hope I'm wrong.

Oh but I don't expect any huge surprises but at least one. Like we had State of Decay 2 last year, something like that. Can't be that they have nothing else other than the already announced games. Ori 2 could be that surprise game for example. :)

Does anyone have a link or quote of exactly what Spencer said? During that IGN podcast he did say they didn't have any new game announcements for 2017 but to be honest that's really not necessary anyway. But games for next year? Yeah we'll see.

Jez definitely knows things but it remains to be seen if he's in the know about the whole show. I highly doubt they would let Jez hint towards new games if they have them up their sleeve. Gotta keep some surprises.

If they genuinely announce nothing for next year, i would be surprised, but by the same token a lack of announcements wouldn't mean a lack of those things being in the pipe, necessarily. I doubt they would be that cautious though. End of year looks good for MS for my tastes anyway.

On that same note, Jez has held back information he was privy to so the proper sources (most recently, Digital Foundry) could have their time in the light.

Hes not a "normal" leaker imo, and if there was some new stuff to announce I don't think he would immediately take that away from the devs for clicks like most do.

Well he did reveal that the surprise 343 has is Halo Wars 2 but probably got permission from them.

Likely.

I think Sony and From have another partnership in the oven but I don't think it revolves around Armored Core. I can see that being PS4/X1/PC.

I hope so man. I'm definitely ready for a good Mech game again. Why don't MS and From partner for a new Mech Assault?

Spencer pretty much said not to expect some surprise AAA exclusive for 2017. They don't have one.

Who would or wouldn't let jez hint at something? What do you mean by "they"?

I'm expecting two new 2018 games to be announced as their "surprises" of the show. Ori 2 and a new AA IP would be my guesses.

Forza 7 will be the only new 2017 game.

I imagine there's a chance of a legit big surprise announcement to please the crowd but I have no idea what it could be. I've said it in a few threads but it would be great if Microsoft were to secure a Marvel exclusive.

To be fair I didn't say leak, I said hint. Hear what you are saying but from what I have read and heard from him, he isn't shy in alluding to something without giving the full info. My opinion is that if there was some big surprises in the game department he would be alluding to it, he hasn't been doing that as yet. Maybe he's being deliberately coy who knows? He is aware of some fan unrest particularly since the Scalebound news.

Cool. State of Decay 2 is something I'm interested in a bit, not interested in yet another Forza, Crackdown Im unsure and I stopped participating in the Sea of Thieves alpha.

I agree on Cyberpunk. I'm not convinced it will be there this year, but I'm half expecting it and wouldn't be surprised at all if it showed up. It's still likely a a late 2018 game at Best, but I think they will show more sooner than later.

I think CDPR have said this is the year of Gwent. Regardin Cyberpunk it will be a late 2019/early 2020 game. As I expect Xbox Two and PS5 to launch fall 2019 and be BC, it will be an intergenerational game. I'm not sure what can they do to make it easily scalable so it will look better on the new generation but whatever they can they will do

Great list of characters that could work well for a Smash Bros clone too, which I would love to see. It's funny though that for a list of characters for a hero shooter you forgot Johanna Dark. I guess it goes to show how long it's been since PDZ, and it's time for Jo to make a comeback.

who is they? Windows Central editors? Microsoft?

Either way, that doesnt make any sense

MS will have surprises, my guess is that Jez just doesnt know them, if he did he would share or hint at them, because thats his job

But that's fine, I mean if they have Crackdown, SoD2 and Sea of Thieves releasing later this year that's fine.

With they I mean MS. Jez is close to all things MS and probably MS themselves too, right? I don't think MS would want Jez hint too much about any possible new games.

Cool. State of Decay 2 is something I'm interested in a bit, not interested in yet another Forza, Crackdown Im unsure and I stopped participating in the Sea of Thieves alpha.

Yeah me too, the few times I played were a lot of fun but without breaking any NBA which I believe is still there? I hope they show some really good new stuff at E3 of Sea of Thieves.

How reliable is Jez Corden?

He had an article basically saying to not expect future exclusives to be announced at this E3. Seems the focus will be on the already revealed games and how Scorpio is best system for 3rd party games.
He is reliable, but that article is about his personal expectations, not insider knowledge from what i gather.

Man, I'm seeing some people getting their hopes way up for this conference. In terms of first party I'm not expecting any big surprises. Scorpio has a big opportunity to be a hit or a dud for me personally. I know I'm getting one in time, but that purchase will definitely be pushed back if they don't deliver a convincing price point/feature set.

I need to see games like Battlefront 2 and Assassin's Creed looking noticeably better than my One S to justify buying in on day one. An "entry level" price of $399 would definitely help with that as well.

I wouldn't say getting their hopes way high, when you consider how little new stuff they had to announce at last E3, no gamescom, Scalebound cancelled. They have said a lot about backwards compatibility for a year, some UI updates, controllers, Scorpio and Phantom Dust being free.

Is it really that unreasonable to hope for a little better than this?

The theory is that MS leaks stuff to Jez every now and then. Zhuge alluded to that. Ex with the November and December NPD numbers. So what he's saying is that if they had a new announcement, they probably wouldn't let him know about it. Also he probably wouldn't spoil it anyway. The only things he's outright said is that the halo "surprise" is just halo wars dlc and they have an AC marketing deal

$399 for a 500gb model would be fantastic and $499 for one with 2tb. I would be on that 399 one in a heartbeat since I have my external HDD. Doubt we're going to see Battlefront 2 at E3 on Scorpio though sadly.

That's what I think too. For example I definitely think there will be a new game that will utilize their mixed reality stuff.

Oh, I remembered her when I originally thought of this but not when I typed the list lol! Yeah, it's been way too long!

Where would those first party surprises even come from? Unless MS has been building up studios in the shadows without anyone noticing, we know what to expect.

I hope they have some second party deals in place.

Pretty cool, could still do a kart racer as well, why haven't they done a water racer off Kinect Sports Rivals!

Joanna Dark

Make a Perfect Dark game already!

Yeah, it would have to come from third party collaborations because all the first party stuff is accounted for. Well, Rare is rumored to have another new IP in the oven but yeah. I don't see that being announced until Sea of Thieves is out.

Oh dang, I forgot that Sony has the marketing rights for that one too... Ugh. I just want to see how the games I plan on playing this fall will look on Scorpio. Destiny 2, CoD WW2, and Battlefront 2 will be my biggest purchases that I'll need to wait for more information on.

But yeah, $399 for the base model would be an absolute instant buy for me. If we go higher than $449 I'd just want to wait things out.

Ah dang, thanks for pointing that out. Could have sworn I was saying that I don't expect big surprises in general but I guess my brain is on autopilot today. If they come out swinging with something unexpected I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not expecting much.

MS will have surprises, it's just a matter if said surprises will resonate with anyone. We know Forza 7, CD3, SoD2, SoT are all gonna be shown to some capacity, 3 of those we are not really sure about what to expect. Some nerves can be calmed if those games are shown in some very good light.

I also think releasing some big or at least providing more info on some big indie games like Cuphead, below, Ashen can also work on their behalf, combine that with first showing of w/e marketing deals they have and some other things, I think they can have a pretty great show.

I thought their show last year was pretty meh (exception of FH3...I think it was there????), they can easily top that with excluding the Scorpio hype.

First party doesn't have to be internal studios. Second party isn't an actual thing. If MS own the IP and publishes the game, its first party. Crackdown, Ori and state of decay are first party games. That's what Shannon Loftis section of publishing does. If she has 8 or songames we don't know about there's still stuff out there. Now granted they may not be in any capacity to show at E3, but they in theory have other collaborations out there

Wait, MS as a company purposely leaks controlled info to him or an employee that he knows leaks it withouth MS consent?

Huh, didn't know that. Interesting.

The FASA rights are a mess. From my understanding it goes like this...

-FASA (co-founded by Jordan Weisman) creates the tabletop game Battletech.

-MechWarrior the video game is then created from the Battletech universe.

-Microsoft buys FASA in January 1999 with the main focus being to gain the "exclusive and perpetual electronic rights to the BattleTech property". FASA continues working on both MechWarrior 4 and MechCommander 2 while MechWarrior 3 is published later that year by Hasbro and MicroProse who had a publishing deal for that game prior to the buyout.

-Jordan Weisman joins Microsoft but leaves in 2002 to form an ARG company that creates the "I Love Bees" campaign for Halo 2.

-Microsoft makes new Xbox games with FASA IP like Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and the MechAssault duology.

-Jordan Weisman purchases the full rights to non-game related projects of FASA IP from Microsoft for use in his new-founded Wizkids company. Those MechWarrior/Battletech rights eventually go through a bunch of buyouts and licenses and gets mostly split up into 3 parts (books, models and everything else not video game related).

-In late 2007 Jordan Weisman founds Smith & Tinker and licenses FASA IP from Microsoft after FASA is dissolved internally.

-Smith & Tinker partners with Piranha Games to make a new MechWarrior game on PC/Xbox 360 but is cancelled after they are unable to get funding (license did not allow for non-Microsoft platforms like PS3 which scared off publishers). Smith & Tinker is "dissolved" and Piranha Games purchases the license to the MechWarrior series while Weisman retains the license to FASA IP like Crimson Skies and Shadowrun.

-Piranha Games, via a combination of (non-kickstarter) crowdfunding and private investors creates the free to play MechWarrior Online which is then picked up by Infinite Games Publishing (who licensed the rights to certain non-Microsoft platforms from Microsoft to create MechWarrior Tactics on iOS).

-Piranha Games buys MechWarrior Online back from Infinite Games Publishing which goes bankrupt. Where the non-MS platform license go is not confirmed but likely, going off the platforms announced for Harebrained Schemes' Battletech, have been picked up by Piranha Games. This license was confirmed to expire in 2015 but was extended to mid-2018 with the chance of further extension to 2020 if Piranha Games meets certain conditions.

-Harebrained Schemes, again founded by Weisman, creates 3 Shadowrun games using the license he had gotten with Smith & Tinker.

-Harebrained Schemes gets the rights to PC/MAC/LINUX to make the currently in development Battletech strategy game (via Kickstarter). Piranha Games is sharing designs with them from MechWarrior Online they probably have a partnership with the rights at the moment. When I asked Harebrained Schemes what the license breakdown was like I was just told they did not have console rights and other than that it was "complicated".

Bringing back both Mech Assault and Crimson Skies would make this boy really really happy.

Phil did react with "I'd love to see the return of MA" or something along those lines when asked about it a while ago. Then again, he did say that about plenty of titles.

Yeah, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Never played Crimson Skies...but Mech Assault was fucking gold, both of them. The nostalgia can certainly resonate.

Crimson Skies could basically be Indiana Jones/Nathan Drake 3rd person action adventure
/arcade flying sim with pirates, blimps, 1930s future style. It would be gold. If I was Phil Spencer, I would green light that and 3rd person Cyberpunk Perfect Dark.

It annoys me greatly those two aren't happening.

The OG Xbox had a trinity of great vehicle based combat games:

Air - Crimson Skies
Land - Mech Assault
Sea - Bloodwake

I don't have a copy of Bloodwake on hand to play, but the other two hold up to this day. Especially Crimson Skies. There's nothing else like it.

Yeah, I agree with you. I read that article last night and now I'm feeling a bit conflicted. I just don't care about the few games they've been releasing lately. Although I do like the OS, controller, XBL, etc. Not really sure what I'll do now.

Play what interests you dude, I like the controller, some parts of the UI and Live but having said that, if there is other platforms offering more of what I like, I'll spend my money there, we owe these companies nothing. There is being a fan like we are but there is a limit.

wait for 2 weeks.

If MS is just focusing everything on the short / near term, then I think that's a missed opportunity. They have to talk about some things on the horizon or show it in a reel at least. Yes, focus mostly on games we can pay within say 6 - 9 months but there's gotta be stuff on the horizon to give gamers hope that they should make or feel good about their investment into the ecosystem.

wait for 2 weeks.

I mean yeah, I'm definitely going to wait. Worst case scenario, I'll at the very least hold on to my XB1S for the 4K bluray drive if nothing else. The games have just really been lacking lately. Halo isn't what it used to be IMO and I couldn't get into Gears. I just wish they'd have already focused/invested more heavily in first and second party games.
