TEKKEN 7 releases June 2nd (PC/XB1/PS4, Season Pass, Eliza, more details)

Arcade mode is five fights and cut to credits, story mode is apparently a 2/2 and a half hour Netherrealm Studios-esque cinematic story (though cinematic is stretching the term a bit) and individual character stories that consist of a single fight and a short real-time ending clip. It's a bit baffling.

Why can't we get a regular-ass arcade mode

You need to watch the reveal of Kuma/Panda and hear people cheer. They weren't used much but people like them. I saw a GameSpot video the other day and this girl was like "I'm playing Panda" and Panda wasn't even available for their demo version, they're just fun joke characters that people don't take seriously. It doesn't make sense for them to hold 2 slots though, not at all.

Bob is heavily popular or at least was back then. I think that's why he's showing up also his fighting style is fun.

Overall, I think Harada, Murray and Tekken Team in general just can't reveal what they really need to reveal not because they don't want to but because of some Bamco stuff. Like I said before, in the press run for this game they said numerous times that it would "come with everything you'd expect out of a Tekken console title" when they talked about modes. Afterwards, the game got delayed so they could put more content in the game and we get this. It really looks as though it's a time issue and/or Bamco not giving them the funds they need to put the content in the game during the time allocated to them.

But they had the intention of adding all the modes. Something weird happened during the development related to time and/or funds. Who knows what it was.

as someone stated earlier, they most likely wanted to just keep it in arcades longer to milk the revenue. That's why it was delayed. I'm hoping you're right though but who knows.

the only reason why I'll ever give praise to that mode is that every character had relevance in the story. Even the damn joke characters.

Arcade mode and people still not satisfied ? I don't even..

3 years since TTT2, 10 years since the mainline series, lets get into it.

Four less characters than Tekken 6
- Only one more stage than Tekken 6 and six less than Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
- Story mode comparable to the "bonus mode" of previous Tekken titles like Tekken Force, Scenario Campaign, Devil Within.
- Treasure Battle Same thing as Ghost Battle in previous games except with modifiers and customization rewards.
- A half-assed version of what Arcade Mode is supposed to be. Only five fights and no character endings.
- Gallery Mode = done before and watching content from previous games isn't new content.
- No substitute for Tekken Tag Tournament's Tekken Tunes. Plus this is PS4 exclusive.
- Customizations = Less options than Tekken 6. Many shared items across all characters. No separation of legs/pants from feet/shoes.
*bonus* - No Time Attack, Survival, or Team Battle modes.
- Character episodes is literally one fight and an ending that solves absolutely nothing.

For the amount of time it took to make it to consoles after being in the arcades for so long. My expectations I guess should've lowered it.

That reminds me, two years ago I found some videos that covered every character's dialogue throughout Scenario Campaign. I started a google doc and planned on transcribing the whole thing for easy viewing, but only got partway through Anna's before setting it aside. There are a lot of lines. It's not all particularly enlightening, but it's still neat to see each character's individual personalities shine through a bit.

I think I might get back to it soon, alongside documenting every T6 customization. I just wanna give the ol' game some appreciation.

I was surprised by the amount of personality given to some characters in that mode. I actually played it only to discover the different dialogues by some characters when interacting with each other. It was very interested to say the least!

Yeah I doubt we're getting a Tag 3 for a great while.

That's possible because T7 for consoles funds itself. They use the arcade revenue to add things to the console version so the longer it stays in arcade, the more funds they have to add to the console game including post-launch support. In theory, they could have potentially gained more funds to use to add the extra stuff to the console version but then they'd have to work on a deadline along with that so we'll see. Say they had enough money, they'd have a deadline. Say they didn't have enough money, they'd have to keep it in arcades to generate more revenue. Who knows. Either way it all doesn't go into Bamco's pockets.

Regardless. I Hope it sells gang busters so they can add content to it for a long time.

That's the stinger. You'd expect Namco would have invested a lot more into the home release given the exceptional delay for tuning and balancing. Seems Harada was possibly strapped by funding allocation and potentially the story mode/customization gear stole away the resources, but the significant amount of time this took to arrive begs many questions.

Tekken 7 Console would not have existed with the Arcade version. Vanilla Tekken 7 was a glorified beta. FR is the "real" Tekken 7

Start with that and everything else starts to follow.

Pretty much.

I feel what people are saying because I wanted authentic arcade endings, the extra characters and even the modes I usually don't use because it makes for a larger package. I just think there's a reason that is considering they said the game would come with those modes. Just have to hope they come to the game or, given how outspoken Harada and Murray are, somebody needs to tweet them and see if they'll respond so there's answers provided to everyone. It's just weird hearing them saying that it'll come with everything you'd expect from a Tekken game and then it just doesn't come with that.

I definitely think it's worth my 60 bucks though. Everyone has their own opinion on that.

Just something to note, this is the longest time a tekken game has had to take to transition from the arcades to console. It's true, the arcades are needed otherwise that well would be poisoned and the tekken franchise couldn't benefit anymore from that revenue. But the length it took for tekken 7 fr to arrive is is odd. Especially with the content -lite- ness of it. Which i expect to hopefully be fixed by dlc and patches.

Why are you saying this? It is literally the exact same thing as the arcade version. This is not a revelation

Arcade modes in fighting console games often have a full character specific ending. The character episodes don't suffice and the arcade mode in tekken 7 ends with simply credits. Is that so difficult for some people to understand?

Sadly, this can be the bullet-point summary in the OT...

Nah I'm just being pessimistic. I like the addition of rage arts and the slow mo. But I just have to point out sometimes that the content in Tekken 7 isn't as heavy as the previous series. I'm sure the game itself is amazing gameplay wise and will receive great DLC.

No. Neither Tekken 5 or 4 had endings for arcade mode. There was a separate Story Battle that gave you endings just like this. It just was exactly like arcade mode so you never noticed. Tekken 7 has character endings of a higher quality in a Story mode as well.

Agreed and that is not the argument. The difference is that the home release was inevitable and many of supplementary modes and content aren't reliant on 3+ years of character balancing to plan and produce.

Namco either refused to foot the bill to match even T6 for one of its most established franchise pillars, or there wasn't much of a plan in the works during the testing.

Arcade mode ending with credits is actually as arcade perfect as can be, i've beaten the original trilogy a lot on a coin. I never minded that approach in Tekken 6 for consoles. The endings were behind the shorter and easier arena battle.

I mainly play through arcade mode to try combos under pressure. FR seems to have only 5 stages as well, its un altered.

Apologies. What I meant was having a story mode that wasn't just one fight, but was like arcade and provided an ending. And that's VERY debatable on the last point. Higher budget? yes. But the writing and story.... meh.

I feel Tekken 7 may have received a budget cut because of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 not meeting sales target. Look at the endings and the character slots looking empty in certain sections. If Tekken 7 sells well, namco bandai may provide more money. My thoughts.

Hmmm kinda sounding comparable to Soul Calibur 5's release.

At this point I can accept something like that, though the disappointment from many is certainly understandable.

I'm just happy the game is on PC and have more content than day one SFV (just saying).

I'd love to see Ryo Hazuki as the first secret DLC character. Never played Shenmue (I'm actually very glad about the 3 hype and expect a HD treatment for Shemnue 1 & 2) but always like this guy. I was so salty, I was too young to buy a Dreamcast and games 😅. This console was madness.

Naruto guest character. Calling it. Lars being in a Naruto game was just the first sign.

Harada's comment the other day says everything.

Also his comments after the Season Pass was announced.
In the past, we had to stop all updates and support within 2months after launch(Because no development Budget).
With Season Pass, we can guarantee one year of Additional Development Cost and development Team (Retention of development team structure) from our Company/Publisher.
Also, we do not sell classic Tekken characters, Paid DLC will be special content. With this system, we can do free updates and support for a long time.
This is what I've been saying in an interview article (I have talked about it in several interviews before, so please read it).

All you can do is hope they make the announcements soon because it's definitely getting an update. We just don't know what exactly those updates will be.

expectations. I don't want to have them but this gives me hope and reasoning on why the content is a bit light.

Also notice his comment about Bamco. Even Murray's comments in the past about them having a budget. Bamco's just got them on lock it seems.

But yeah makes sense to me. I just hope we get those announcements soon for people since I know it's worrisome to some.

Tekken 5 and 4 had still image intros and outros before playing one 30 second video. Tekken 5 a in addition had 2 very small in engine story segments. Tekken 4's weren't CG, They were in engine. Tekken 5 was CG. Tekken 7 gives you full in engine intros and outros. Would I prefer a little more from T7? Sure but NRS literally just gives you pictures with voice over for endings and Rev2 gives you nothing. They put A LOT of effort into the main story mode. The cinematography may be the best of any FG storymode. If you'd rather have quantity over quality I wont fault you. Everyone has their own tastes.

I'm a very vocal minority, game will sell great. Just hope Harada follows up on his promises.

The character episodes in Tekken 7 are one of the worst endings I've seen in a fighting game. Short and no substance, no relevance. One fight and done. At least NRS provides a ton of personality besides jokes of an ending. Story mode in the game does not interest me since it primarily focuses on the mishima story line that has been beaten to death with a stick. Ending was decent, but a whole lot of fluff to get to that point that involves almost none of the cast. Tekken 7's story is most definitely not just quality. It's subpar, its okay. With one character inclusion that provides almost nothing to the story besides being a training doll to be beat up by the cast.

Developer has confirmed post launch support. Has confirmed at least one new mode, customizable content/costumes. At least 2-3 guest characters and legacy characters.

Still complaining. C'mon guys.

Who the hell are the guest characters? What's happening with Classic characters? What is the new mode? Why are character episodes so short? is it being expanded? Was Roger JR really excluded because of PETA? Was lei wulong excluded because of his usage rate? It most likely has to to due with the Publisher making him tight lipped, but THERE are a lot of questions and Harada has not been transparent and answers questions so vaguely that you can literally make it appear as a yes or a no.

We'll probably get answers about the season pass during the Tekken Talk on June 2nd
