I think the reason for that was they were behind on localization. (don't tell Doffen) It's not that they were shitting on other countries.

Found you!

What localization? The system is still poorly translated, lacks several local media apps and had less marketing than a French avant-garde film.

I doubt any alterations now (for what reason(s)?) and that the HW has been locked down for a long time. Isn't the motherboard render from last E3 unchanged even?

I guess this assumption springs from the increase in those Mhz Phil announced on Twitter some time after E3, the year they announced the Xbox one.

While that is true, these project names are always used deliberately to conceal the identity of the console, the name never bears a relation to the actual device e.g. Durango = Xbox One / NX = Switch / Neo = Ps4 Pro.

My opinion is we shouldn't use the name as an inidicator of when it will release. Anyhow we'll find out in less than 2 weeks!

That's a possibility.

That said, the original reveal trailer clearly stated Holiday 2017. This period generally starts around November so I guess in this case, they are kind of utilizing the name as they have never intended to keep the release window secret.

I won't be surprised if they followed in Sony's footsteps, which launched the Pro around the same time frame of the OG PS4.

Now that we're less than two weeks away from the formal reveal, any predictions on what the final name of the hardware will be? I'm assuming that Scorpio is a placeholder like "Project Natal" was for Kinect. (Though, of course, there's nothing stopping them from calling it "Xbox One Scorpio" or something similar.)

If I had to guess, I'd go with "Xbox One Elite". They've used that branding before, most recently with the Elite controller, so it would fit. It would also allow them to signify the upgraded hardware without being completely shameless and calling it the "Xbox One Pro", lol.

There is an xbox Elite console already, so it won't be that.

I think they will keep the name, Xbox Scorpio. They have already dropped the "project" part of the original name and i feel like they have used the name "Scorpio" a lot. It feels like it's been used too much to change it now.

And i kinda like it.

[Edit] they are actually still using project on their homepage though.

Anyone else excited by all the h/w level 'upgrades'?

SS
Gsync
AF
Etc?

I love the fact we are getting these features but until the V Sync//VRR TV's appear, I dunno how great they will be. Probably a tough one to show off the people as well.

I am really interested in seeing how these HW upgrades have an effect on BC and XB1 games. Will be great to see if some of the older titles can get a push to 4k@60.

As for naming...Just keep it Xbox Scorpio.

I'm not a marketing person but "Scorpio" has a negative connotation to it, it's a venomous arachnid. The public doesnt know about the name, I would be surprised if they actually use it in the end.

I predict Scorpio will be part of the final name and will release in the second week of November.

Sadly not going to happen. It has such a nice ring to it but Spencer already said it won't be this name. And if you think about it Scorpio doesn't really make much sense. Not that Xbox One X makes all that much sense though.

I'd push for a new name to distance it from the Xbox One, the Xbone doesn't exactly have a good name in gaming and a reboot might just be what they need, to freshen things up.

It will 100% have the words Xbox and One in it's name as it will be playing the same games that have Xbox One printed on the box.

X = 10

Xbox one is Windows 10 isnt it?

Then we'll have to settle for Xbox 4...K

Xbox 4K.

I think it'll just be ... XBOX. Nothing more.

I really hope they don't overprice the damn thing and make the same mistake like they did last time. 499,- for the XBOX One, 100,- more than the PS4 which had the better hardware.

Using Scorpio would make sense at this point (it's a device that is built for a minority, that minority knows it as Scorpio) but this is Microsoft. They just last week changed Beam to Mixer. They renamed a Natal that everyone knew to Kinect. They have changed their music subscription service from Zune to Xbox Music to Music to Groove. I don't think they ever use common sense when naming something. It will be something ridiculous for Scorpio as well.

Xbox Covfefe. It would sell like hotcakes.

This is how I feel. If they call it "Xbox One ______" then it would definitely lock the system down to only being bought by the more hardcore gamers as the more laid back/casual gamers will wonder why a version of a 2013 console costs so much money. New branding and name would get them more interested.

Sales of the system will obviously drop after the Holiday season but I don't think they would ever really pick back up if Microsoft called Scorpio the "Xbox One ______".

They will have no effect unless the games are patched for Scorpio, though. How likely do you think that is for 360 games? For Xbox One games, the most reasonable estimate would be to expect about 10-15% of pre-Scorpio titles will get patched, as with PS4 Pro. Microsoft's statements about "developers can use Scorpio power however they like" are almost identical to how Sony talked about their system pre-launch.

"According to the Xbox hardware team, your existing library of games should run smoother, look better and load faster," Digital Foundry is reporting.

The Scorpio isn’t an existing Xbox One with more powerful hardware; it’s a complete overhaul of the system architecture. That makes this sort of backward compatibility much harder, while allowing for much greater gains in existing games.

"Here, it's down to the platform holder to take ownership of compatibility issues, but the advantage is this: unlike PS4's boost mode, Scorpio theoretically allows for the full power of the new console to be deployed on older games," Digital Foundry writes.

I think based upon how they are doing the BC titles, some basic additions to run higher resolution etc, is not out of the realms of possibilities.

I would prefer Xbox One 4K.

While MS certainly want to show that the Xbox One is not being phased out, I also think they want to see this as a refresh of the Xbox system. The marketing will show that the Scorpio plays all your Xbox One games with better graphics/framerates etc, plus the best 3rd party games, while still being a fresh start for MS. They will do a better job than Nintendo did with the Wii-U.

Also, they should be a better job than Sony who found it pretty hard to show off why the Pro is a good upgrade for 4k and non-4k display owners.

I agree, just 'Xbox' is what I think it would be. Harkens back to original era too.
