Nintendo E3 plans detailed

So I just had a thought of something. Keep in mind this is pure ramble and shouldn't be taken as anything but me hoping.

What if the reason Retro has waited 4 years to show something is because they've got two games on the pipeline?

So hypothetical scenario:

Halfway through the spotlight the retro studios logo goes on the screen with a new Diddy Kong Racing game. Gaf loses its mind Sammy gets banned and the internet blows up.

Then comes the very end of the spotlight.

Screen fades to black. Nothing heard for a solid 5 seconds.

Retro studios logo fades in complete with a cry from a metroid(akin to Super Metroid's title screen).

Gaf loses its mind again, Sammy is still banned and the internet explodes in a more positive way.

I'd take it.

Well Sammy is already banned sooo

There's 1 game and its Donkey Kong for iphone.

Metroid didn't get any strong rumors I think.

There have actually been quite a few strong rumors regarding a UK studio working on Metroid. A lot of conflicts regarding the specifics (what studio, are they fully developing or co-developing, 2D or 3D, even what platforms) but the commonality to all of those rumors seems to be an outside developer is working on Metroid.

Saw some say it after MarioXRabbids pics finally leaked. Same in the E3 prediction thread.

Ah yeah I've seen it in the Mario x Rabbids thread. I guess people can't believe Nintendo actually have some games done after 2 years of very little content releasing on the Wii U.

Bruh I'm still basically nowhere in Xenoblade 1 on the Wii. 20 hours in and still in the first town. Might try Xenogears first or something. Given up on Retro. Decided never to start an Animal Crossing again after trying out one of them and seeing the endless well it tries to pull you into.

Honestly I'll probably just keep playing Wii U stuff this year. Didn't get one till a year ago and I still have to finish Zelda and also play: Toad, Bayo 2, W101, 3D World, etc. I guess more of those types of 1st party games would have to arrive on Switch for me to get one. Mario Maker and Smash mainly.

Actually the biggest thing would have been 3DS/DS BC. My 3DS and even DS backlog is honestly shameful.

It makes sense for Nintendo to focus on that because that approach actually seems to be working as advertised in the commercials. It's not just another handheld friends can link together, but it's actually being used as a portable local MP "console."

Big AAA ports aren't really going to happen, but I hope western publishers take a look at their games which have this local MP potential: Fifa, Madden, Diablo 3, etc.
Yeah, I'm really in a way of "I'm glad Nintendo is making these games/porting these games and doing a good job with it all and it is working out for them and a large part of their audience, but I'm not quite into it all." And yes, I think they are launching Switch right, especially with MH coming up to take advantage of the audience they are building.

Like with Splatoon I was super happy that they had a new IP taking on a new (for them) genre and doing so in a fresh way that resonated extremely well with the audience but never passed beyond this vicarious enjoyment of its existence.

I'm feeling it.

AAA Metroid from Retro will be the 'mic drop' trailer that ends Nintendo's presentation. Like the BotW trailer at the Switch event.

Hmm, since I'm still very much new to Switch, I haven't gotten a pouch/case and don't know which one is quality, but I've been looking at two different ones. This one by AM Case and another from Orzly. That said, I am primarily looking for one I can have in my backpack while walking about, so it doesn't necessarily have to be a hard shell.

PS: Do we have a all things Switch OT, kind of like what Sony and Microsoft?

I can vouch for the Orzly, solid case. You have a screen protector right?

I bought an Orzly screen protector which should have arrived yesterday but didn't, so it'll probably reach my destination soon. I would honestly like a lightweight soft pouch I can have in my backpack, because I'm not gonna cary around the Switch back outside of my backpack.

Man they HAVE to announce it this year. They know we all want freaking HD Metroid Prime. These guys aren't idiots.

When has Nintendo NOT given us what we wanted in regards to another game in a popular series? We saw HD everythings on WiiU except for Metroid. This is their charge shot. They know we want it.

It'll be the one 2018 announcement.

Man your optimism is admirable.

Hence why I pitched what I did earlier. They saw the reaction to Tropical Freeze and theoretically realize that anything but Metroid will get people upset.

I hope retro isn't making metroid, I'd seriously take donkey kong over metroid but what I would like the most is a new IP from them.

You know, I'll compromise: Just give us Metroid Prime Trilogy HD on Switch. Then Retro can do whatever it wants. I don't need a new Prime game, the old ones just remastered in HD would make me more than happy.

Donkey Kong Country!! Yeeeeah! Tropical Freeze is in my Top 3 GOATs. I wouldn't be sad for a second if we got another DKC

i dont want another metroid prime made by retro, I want a new Ip

I'd be down for a 2D Metroid by Retro, but I agree about not wanting them to do another Prime game. It seems like a decent amount of the team behind those games left anyways. Both Comcept and 343 like to talk about how they have staff from the Prime team working on their games.

From earlier in the thread:

While I know about all the other reasons it probably won't happen, found an interesting post calling out how Retro can still make Metroid if need-be.

Retro Studios still has plenty of staff from the Metroid Prime Trilogy - Reddit

At the very least, the "no Prime staff" excuse is less of an issue than we thought.

From earlier in the thread:

Much appreciated! You have no idea how many times I've asked about that without getting a response. I'd still prefer they step away from Prime 4 unless they have awesome ideas for the series. I have no interest in them doing another Prime game just for the sake of doing it.

While RETRO has become this mythical "what are they working on now!???" studio, I've been feeling a bit down on them. The Armature departure resulted in two studios that can't make a good metroid.
Taking a whopping 3+ years to make DKCTF is a bit concerning too especially since it sounds like they needed a ton of help from Monster Games which is now making Nascar games.
I don't really know what they're capable of now. Don't know if they can make a new Metroid, don't really care about them making a new IP just because "OMG, NEW IP", and a 3rd DK game would be very very boring unless it's a 3D one...which would've been more exciting if Mario Odyssey wasn't coming out this year
Not much longer till we (likely) see it. If not then that Studio is probably in some big trouble since it has been 3 years and 4 months since their last game came out and they used to say that they were a studio putting out a game every 3 years.

I really don't think they are in trouble, whether they need help or not to push these games out. The reservation is understandable due to the points you listed, but when I look over their track record between Prime Trilogy + DKC Returns games, it's hard to deny the quality. No matter how long it takes or how many people are involved, their end products have always delivered in my opinion. The studio has proven itself, and I hope enough so to enable them to drop a new IP. We will have to see.

remember the Reggie quote.

REMEMBER THE REGGIE QUOTE!

For the uninitiated:

Oh, so earlier today I got asked about Mother 3; maybe you can ask me about Metroid. Look, again, I am proud as an executive with Nintendo to say that we look at all of the boards and all of the comments and we really have a good understanding of what our consumers want. And believe me, we take that to heart as we work to create content.
So I have nothing to announce - here. But we are aware that there are some key IP that consumers just can't wait for the next true instalment in that franchise's legacy. Suffice it to say, we're aware of it, and talk to me in a year and let's look back and see what's happened.

Might be a good idea to consider the possibility of Retro's game already being complete but just having a strategically placed release date. Same thing happened with Tropical Freeze.

I guess the "they've proven themselves" is the issue I have. Armature hasn't made a good game in nearly the decade they've been open, but they took enough of the MP leads that it might be the reason why that spin off franchise is dead and why we haven't had a new Metroid game in so long.
I do think they can still make good games, just feel they might be a bit overhyped until proven otherwise.

Seriously Retro's game has to be there. I will take Donkey Kong again over not showing anything. 2 games would be awesome perhaps that is why they took so long to reveal it. Maybe Donkey Kong Banana warfare and Freeze 2. Yellow cartridge looking like a banana. Life time banana supply if you pre order both games. Make it happen Nintendo

If they do a new DK (I hope to God they don't) - they had better bring back the Croc's and K. Rool as the villain. Sick of this weird tiki bullshit.

K. Rool is only memorable because he's the first villain. Other then that's he's honestly a pretty lame.

I liked the Snowmads better design wise, but some of them were boring. They did have better theme music tho.

Retro Studios has done nothing but make good games. Their last game was one of the greatest 2D platformers ever made. I have no idea where this bizarre mistrust is even coming from.
