I took a survey a couple weeks back where it asked what consoles I owned. PS4, Xbox One, etc. The last choice was Xbox Deluxe. Can't imagine they would use that in a million years, but thought it was interesting.

Xbox One X makes the most sense, I think.

I own a PS4 Pro and was genuinely excited to get a Scorpio. But I feel as if they are missing the window to have this really have the impact it could have.

By the time Scorpio comes out, PS4 Pro will be a year old already, so the performance gains feel a little diminished. A marginal CPU upgrade and a nice GPU upgrade. But based on Digital Foundry finding in Destiny 2, the limitations this generation are largely CPU bound even on the PS4 Pro. I dont think we're really gonna get that "WOW" factor over what current PS4 Pro titles offer.

I mean you drop your "Elite" console a year after the competition and say its the best, well yeah, it better be. Its not like MS is playing the Nintendo card here, they are in the hardware race.

Im still excited for what Scorpio has in store, but I worry many people are getting their hopes up to PS5 XBTWO levels.

Your concern has been noted.

Oh no! It'll be alright my friend. We'll get through this together.

You're right, and everyone knows it, but the allure of new hardware is too much for many of us and we'll buy anyways and hope for the best!
Just the smell of pulling it out of the box is worth half the price for me.

So the official name would be Xbox 17? That would certainly be interesting.

Well it would just be an Xbox. Scorpio would be the 2017 model so I suppose you could call it that if you needed to be more precise.

I think he meant like Xbox (2017). The year is just the most recent model. Like the cars do.

Yep or that. Surface is going that way and it's way cleaner IMO, the branding for Xbox has been all over the place. Streamline that shit

Anyone else think it will be called 'Xbox 4K' as it's the fourth Xbox in the lineup and MS have been all about 4K.

I'd be more into this idea if the One S wasn't capable of playing 4K content. I don't think they want the console name to cause confusion like that. Especially when the One S will sell more units this year.

No. Its a marketing deathtrap. What if a dev doesnt want to do 4K and uses it on something else. It just bad PR just like if the OG Xbox One was called Xbox 720 what many people wanted. Combine that with the early 720p titles backlash haha.

Wait, does it actually say "4K" on the chip? Why?

Has any codename stuck for as long as Scorpio ? Or become so popular ?
I can't think of any. They might just call it Scorpio at this point.

Cortana was the code name for the AI assistant for so long that they ended up just using it as the actual product name.

But if you're just talking about consoles, then nah I don't think anyone as publicly promoted a console with the code name this much.

Edit: ^oh yeah, NX was talked about a lot

Look forward to seeing what new games they have to announce, and just dying to see how games are looking and running on this thing in general.

"Scorpio" stuck around because it was announced so ludicrously early, not because it's a catchy name.

Nintendo NX?

Ah, yes. Maybe.
The thing is they are so quickly forgotten once the real name is announced.
Who else remembers Durango ?
I had completely forgotten about NX.

And what was Dreamcast's codename ? Katana ?

Then you have the Dolphin. Project Reality.
Can't think of anything else atm

Yeah, I mean.. I can't remember other manufacturers promoting their consoles or talking about it at official events using their code name this insistently.
Might be wrong though.
And of course it's been around for longer than a year at this point.

Which is why I think they might just stick with it at this point.

That or Xbox 4k.
Makes sense.
Put them in the same "number" as the current PlayStation.
Allows them to call the next one Xbox 5, dropping the silly numbers.
It's the sensible choice.

I find the destiny not able to hit 60 frames a cop out. If they did dedicated servers and offloaded AI, they could hit 60 frames easily.

Systems aren't often pre-announced with quite so much lead time. Nintendo certainly had a few that built some momentum: Project Reality, Revolution, and NX all meant a lot to me before they had a final branding. So did the 3DO M2.

They might just call it Scorpio at this point.

I can't think of a game console that stuck with its code name but other tech products have in the past. Apple's Macintosh is the most obvious example that leaps to mind.

Can you invite me to smell it together when you do the unboxing ? I pay you 1/4

The One S has a master chief somewhere on the insides and it's not called Xbox One Master Chief
for some dumb reason might I add

"Scorpio" stuck around because it was announced so ludicrously early.

I wasn't suggesting there were other reasons..
Although it IS a pretty badass name tbh.

Also, the release date was in the codename all along !
It's obviously between October 23 and November 21. DUH !

They can't call it xbox 4K if they're not mandating that resolution, right ?

They're not setting themselves up for another endless pixel shitstorm the minute a game isn't 4K, right ?

Whelp I've pre-ordered 5 multi-platform games in anticipation of Scorpio from Best Buy (for the bonus $10 pre-order credit).

Middle Earth Shadow of War
Destiny 2
CoD WWII
Battlefront II
Far Cry 5

Don't let me down with inferior versions compared to the Pro.

Xbox X would be fine.

I am unsure about having Xbox One with a letter/number/name etc after. It makes sense that MS might put in Xbox One, just so they don't alienate Xbox one fans and also not add to marketing confusion. On the other hand, would be nice to see Scorpio pushing out on its own.
