Wonder Woman |OT| The World is Ready for You, Gal Gad [SPOILERS]

The humor was perfectly tuned. As much as I enjoyed GoTG2, the overabundance of humor really hurt the gravity of a lot of scenes.

Yeah. I thought this was the better film overall, and Guardians 2 also suffered from the big over the top dumb battle at its end as well. God they seriously need to fucking stop that shit.

I'm interested in alternate opinions about the climax. If it helps me like it even just a bit more, I'll take it. Just thought it was by far the weakest part of the film, and I didn't think there was the proper build to it. I thought after she killed Ludendorff that there was going to be more story before the climax; that felt like the point in a film where things get dour for a while, the characters split up, and then come back together for the climax. That kinda happened, just all at once and when the final battle started I was just feeling like, wait, what?

I was getting bored by the end, so I'm glad they wrapped it up there.

This is not the best movie with a super hero in it. But it may be the best Super hero movie.

True North the whole way. Loved it.

Some iffy bits here and there, but overall fantastic. Solid 9/10

And I think this is because the scripting started losing its footing after the gala. It felt like it just needed to rush into the climax without the proper build. I was expecting after the gala for there to be more story, and then the traditional third-act setup, but it felt like that setup never came. It rushes from the gala to Diana entering the post-gassed village and straight into the climax. All of this is where it started to lose me, and then I wasn't a big fan of the end battle.

Actually that whole gala scene felt rather pointless in hindsight. It had the scene between Steve and Poison, and Diana meeting Lundendorff which was arguably important considering what followed, but I thought it was going to be this big awesome espionage thing.

I did like the scenes from BVS being a bookend to this movie. That was pretty cool.

Who else thought the humor was perfect? It was really funny, that scene on the boat was my favorite dialogue exchange in the film, so well written and acted. It had a building charm and humor to it. I loved Gadot's fish out of water performance, it wasn't stupid, just obliviousness to real-world situations and I'm glad they played it that way instead of making her feel dumb.
How much humor is in this movie? I may see this next week or the week after that.

Did i see a different cut from everyone else? This was terrible :D Thor Dark World level. 3/10

Awful cheap CGI, some very blurry scenes as they tried to hide that most scenes were greenscreen. Silly fight scenes where people wait for their turn while they have guns? The frontline scene was laughable, one machinegun over several miles of terrain?

Movie was way too long and boring. Some extremely cringey dialogue and eyerolling "love is the greatest power" end quotes...

I actually wanted more action lol. That trench sequence and ensuing fights in the building was so fucking awesome, but then the next time there's action it's basically that lame ass climax.
Yeah for sure. When it really got going it was almost perfect action for me. The low angle two shot with Diana on the roof and Steve on the ground, the wide shot in the square with the lasso being used, 😥😥.

I would say a lot because myself and the rest of the theater laughed a lot, but it's completely balanced. Great blend of drama and comedic levity. Chris Pine brings a lot of that, but honestly Gadot just fucking nails everything she does here.

Thor Dark World level. 3/10

Anyone feel like Diana's outlook on humanity at the end of this movie doesn't really line up with what she told Bruce at the end of BvS? Like, I was expecting for her to get fed up with mankind by the end of WW, but it was pretty much the opposite. It's annoying how BvS set up Diana. Otherwise we could have had more adventures with Diana and Steve in the early 20th century. Now we have another Dark Knight Rises situation where the hero stops being a hero for a long ass time.

Well the rumor is that if a WW sequel is made, the setting will likely be WWII. With Ares out of the picture, perhaps its the events of WWII and mankind's willingness to go to war that ultimately makes Diana walk away from mankind.

Agreed. The dialogue was pretty cringey at moments, and the CGI and slow motion scenes really started to annoy me by the end of the movie. I think we both must have watched something different.

This movie has nothing on Guardians 2... and I prefer DC to Marvel in terms of comics and characters.

Saw this yesterday, I thought it was alright. Most of the jokes fell completely flat (she's talking about his penis! Oh-ho it was just the book!, all the 'average male' nonsense). The last fight scene has the same problems as Man of Steel and BvS - seeing two powerful beings take turns to throw each other into things is not an interesting thing to watch. Add to that the same obnoxious blasts of WW's theme every time she does something like in BvS and the whole fight was just a headache to sit through.

That said, Diana's character is great, really well developed over the course of the film and she carries the whole thing.

I loved the sense of purity and innocence that was being portrayed... as well as how believable it was on screen.

The humor did nothing for me in this movie. I maybe got one or 2 smiles but found nothing to be laugh out loud funny.

Ok, fair enough, I'll definitely give it a shot, I am a sucker for humor in these movies after all!

I'm pretty sure Patty Jenkins said that the sequel would take place in present day after BvS and Justice League.

The first scene of the sequel is Diana cloning Steve, he has his memories for some reason, and none of the cloning or memory stuff is ever brought up again.

To quote Bruce, "Where have you been?"
Yeah I thought in BvS, it's suggested that Diana lost hope in mankind.

Off topic but I really like the new DC logo animation. Reminds me of JL animated series intro.

I thought the movie was okay.

6/10 for me. Pacing issues and found the action scenes underwhelming. CGI was really rough at times and obvious green screen. Didn't care for the Villains as well.

I appreciate the fact they didn't give Aris a generic Demon Voice. I also really liked Gal and Chris chemistry together

All and all, doesn't come close to Batman Begins or Iron man 1 in my opinion, but it's not a bad movie

I watched it yesterday and it was genuinely fantastic. I've only given 4/75 films I've watched this year a 10/10 and Wonder Woman makes that 5/76. It was just fantastic all around with my favourite scene being the No Mans Land crossing.

The penis size humor was pretty weird

oh right haha, a lot of "I'm more than the average man" stuff. all in all though I liked the chemistry between her and chris pine and the other soldiers. that was a fun dynamic.

I think just in terms of pure "heroics", Wonder Woman is the best character since Raimi's Spiderman (and Donner's Superman well before that). I like a few others like Batman and Wolverine more on film, but she was really likeable and was a much better attempt at what marvel's been trying to do with captain america for so many movies.

this director was smart to tap into that Donner well.

I thought it was about average, I felt a few scenes were overpowered by the music and drowned out the rest, for example when WW was in no man's land; I just sat there thinking it would've been so much more epic without the score and just the sound of rapid gunfire and ww just shrugging it all off.

Baddie was so predictable and generic.
Can't say I like it more or less than any other DC movie yet.

I don't think so.
The music is one of the things that makes that scene so good imo. The slow motion sequence would also look out of place without music as there would be wide empty gaps and the scene wouldn't really work as well without slow motion.

It's suppose to show off heroics and all that helps really imo.

Movie was great but they definitely dropped the ball on the post-Themiscyra fights. Far too much slow mo and CGI in those. The village fight wasn't all that bad, but then it just got worse. Hopefully they improve for the sequel. Otherwise, the movie was fantastic. Can't wait to see more of Diana.

It still irk me that people drooling on this movie and hating MoS considering how much the two movies share in common.
Diana wants to help people. Superman moped in the corner and was a whiny bitch for most of man of steel and Batman v superman. Diana had no problem doing the right thing. Clark just bitched about having powers. Pretty stark contrast.

They're not very similar. Even though it takes place in and around one of the most horrible wars humanity has ever experienced, there was an uplifting sense of hope and heroism in this movie that I never got from MoS. Which is my primary issue with that movie.

They have so little in common. MoS is jam packed with action, there's so little room to breathe and everything keeps moving so fast that it gets hard to follow. It also looks excessively bleak with its muted colour palatte and lacks humour. Superman himself is not really as heroic as Diana whose only goal is to help.

The movie has more similarities to The First Avenger than MoS.

Just got tickets to see to see it again tomorrow with some friends who haven't yet.

Really excited to see the boat scene and the snow scene again. Those were just two perfect moments of movie action.

And kudos to Patty for including that love scene. It was just so tastefully done.

They ain't even close. The only thing in common between the two is the DC brand.

Man of Steel doesn't even attempt to get into the head of its titular character.

Clark hem'd and haw'd about saving people a lot

Diana barely even blinked

I don't think so, and that really really sucks

To be fair, it's less that Clark hem'd and haw'd and more like Pa Kent instilled that oh-so-noble paranoia in him. He still rushed in to help people. He'd just get all sad about it after. Except for the one time where he should've been sad (looking at Metropolis). Instead, he gets the hots for Lois and starts making out with her atop the pulverized ashes of thousands of people.

This is how I feel as well. The film reminds me of Superman: The Movie and even glimpses of Spider-man 2.

Guys, I'm so, so happy that that Wonder Woman delivered the way it did. It's genuinely, truly great. Which isn't to say there aren't any rough spots, or even some genuinely iffy moments, but whats right with it overshadows whats wrong greatly.

...
Excellent write up!! I do differ w/ you on the lingering shot of Steve before he shoots the gun. I thought it was an excellent performance and I could see the multitude of emotions going through him as he's almost convincing himself and calming himself to go through with it. It was the moment that finished selling me on Chris Pine.

Saw it last night. It's the best DCEU movie, but still just an alright movie overall. Logan and Guardians were still much better comic films from this year. after I got out. I talked to my wife about it...it was like, you can see the quality on the screen (really good script) but I didn't get too emotionally invested in wonder woman. There was a definite separation of me from the character. Maybe if I was a girl I would have felt more.

A good movie, a game changer in terms of DCEU quality. I'm looking forward to a sequel.

I can easily see her "retirement" as a realization of her being a literal God and struggling to find her place in the world after that, especially after seeing what ares had been doing with humans and fearing that her existence might inspire more than just good on the people having just learned that they can also be incredible cruel.

And maybe after a hundred years and seeing the rise of heroes she felt that there was no point in being in the sidelines anymore.

I'm guessing Wondy only gets involved when shit goes real real bad considering how OP she is

Like Batman would only be a blip on her radar, but Supes and Zod acting stupid in Metropolis probably woke her up
