Pokemon Gold/Silver for 3DS VC

Doesn't HeartGold & SoulSilver already exist?

Why port the original through VC instead of converting the definitive versions to 3DS like AlphaSapphire & OmegaRuby???

You don't have to convert them. They're DS titles and work on 3DS already.

How the hell do you expect them to release a virtual console title on platform that has no virtual console?

Didn't stop companies from releasing all those Neo Geo games.....

Fire Emblem and Paper Mario are of course First Party IPs as Nintendo owns all the rights. With Pokémon on the other hand, they couldn't even get the Pokémon Company to allow the same basic functionalities for amiibo, that are present in basically all the rest. And you expect Nintendo to have any say in what games they release when for what system? Lol.

If Nintendo had any say in this, there would have been a mainline Pokémon game on a console many generations before this.

There's a lot of forces to move to get them to include the characters in something, yes but it's not like they're incapable of it (see: Mario Maker, Kirby Planet Robobot, various crossover merchandise and advertising). Pokemon's a huge brand and even if they don't take part in its day to day operations, they've always had a say in it.

But as with most of their brands, they're content to let the creators do as they see fit rather than mandate their use in anything.

what's the reason of no crystel?

Posted a few times on the last two pages:
- No Korean version
- Japanese version has mobile features which would be too hard / costly to replace / get working
- International releases have some work on those features but not nearly enough

Obligatory Pokemon Golder Post.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who ran mostly with Typhlosion as their main.

Such a shame they didn't release Soul Silver and Heart Gold digitally instead of this VC release. The limited quantity of physical copies and the obscene prices you have to pay for either game now would've made a digital release really appealing.

Well at least Ninty isn't too concerned on pushing me to buy a Switch this year lol.

Pokemon Gold was my jam back in the day, Crystal also.

Those are decent justifications, but it missed the real one.

If they sell crystal at the same time, it'd vastly outsell gold and silver.

Instead they can release crystal later, and have more people double dip.

As much as I love second gen, I won't be picking this up. I've retired my 3DS and don't want to make anymore VC purchases unless Nintendo announces something about transferring over new titles (if even at a small discount) for Switch.

We won't give you Crystal so you have to buy both versions to get all the lengendaries. And we will release it after you bought both versions.

How can this company be so greedy and not even try to hide it?

Pretty sure G/S were the only non-third-version games where you could get both cover legendaries within one version. One was level 40 and the other was level 70.

NINTENDO

put all your games on the switch

jesus christ
This. Could make the switch the best Nintendo emulation console/nostalgia machine. I would be happy if they ported over everything in their library. Imo I think that would be the best strategy for them. Make switch THE Nintendo "Legacy console" where you can play first game of any franchise to the newest entry if you wanted to. No more excuses for people, "I don't want to play game X because it's the 3rd game I haven't played the previous games."

I wonder if Crystal is delayed so they can add in the GS Ball event that could only be accessed by a GameShark back in the day? Would be a cool surprise honestly. Might have to purchase these even though I could just whip out my GC GB Player.

You can get all non-Gen I legendaries in one version of Gold and Silver. Ho-Oh and Lugia are in both versions.

yup, they will probably release it a bit before or after USUM. hell, they could release it on the Switch if it gets VC by then

Yeah, the exclusivity was their signature move. At 70 they would have already forgotten it and the only way to get it back would be the relearner (which wasn't an NPC and was a Stadium 2 feature).

60+ million userbase > 2 million userbase

What you are recommending is stupid. Next game is Switch, since they just hired people with experience working on HD 3D rpgs.
If it was so stupid, current gen consoles would literally just never get games because the predecessor always has a bigger install base, and since the new console would never get games it would never grow its install base and we'd just permanently be stuck with the last gen console.

This comment line is always ridiculous.

Smart, very few would opt for Gold or Silver over Crystal if given the choice. Like how Yellow was superior over Red and Blue. Gonna be fun beating Gold again. :D

They support the Time Capsule feature according to the site.

In addition, these titles will also be compatible with the Time Capsule function, which allows players to Link Trade Pokémon between Pokémon Gold or Pokémon Silver and Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, or Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition in Pokémon Centers within the games, as long as the species of Pokémon appeared in Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, or Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition as well. Have the Pokémon that worked so hard for you in Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition keep battling by your side in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver.

Crystal sucks and is missing all of the good gen 2 Pokemon.

Nah the only one i can't live without is Mareep

Meanwhile Gold and Silver miss all the improvements from Crystal which are way more important than an electric sheep, even when i love said electric sheep

this is dumb as fuck. GF has no reason to when the install base isn't there

With this stupid ass logic, no one should ever release on a brand new console. Sony and Microsoft thankfully aren't that stupid. They bring all their titles to their new systems right away, even if they're cross gen...

As much I love Crystal.

You can't get Ampharos in it, basically unforgivable

I didn't know this, and am now unreasonably upset. No Ampharos availability in a Gen 2 title is like no Pikachu in Pokemon Yellow.

I wish these released sooner. Would like to play them now. Could bring out my old cart, but then they'll be stuck on it.

I may get Silver, since I played Gold a long time ago, and have an unplayed copy of HeartGold too. Shame they aren't releasing Crystal, I would have liked to try that one.

I'm a bit confused about the time capsule. On pokemon.com they talk about bringing over your own Pokemon in red and blue to gold or silver, but how would you trade with yourself? Would you not need two 3ds, one with red/Blue and one with gold/silver?

Might be good for nostalgia, but seeing that I have HeartGold, I don't think I can go back to the 8-bit style...

Are Nintendo really holding Crystal out so people double dip? Really? They think that's going to work again in 2017?

I would love to see the sales numbers for R/B/Y. It's got to be pretty overwhelmingly yellow, to the point of why bother releasing red and blue. So that's probably why we aren't getting Crystal. 'Buy Gold and Silver first and then maybe we'll release Crystal' Lol .Jesus Nintendo. What a shit show this direct was.

Except Gen II is the worst argument for double dipping. The games allow you to catch both mascot legendaries, and the three roaming legendaries. The only one you'd have to worry about are events like Celebi, unless you REALLY want those exclusives that you can get rather easily.

So for those wondering why there's no Crystal, I have a pretty good idea why. In Japan, Crystal has a building called the PCC (Pokemon Communications Center) that used the Mobile Adapter GB to connect to dialup servers and essentially worked like the WiFi features in Gen 4. Now, with how they mentioned they didn't want to do Gen 1 without being able to trade, they probably also didn't want to do Crystal without its biggest feature possible.

Now for other problems:
- They can't cut the PCC in the Japanese games because it's where you receive the Odd Egg and Eon Mail.
- While most of the mobile features were translated into English, they definitely weren't for the other international languages.

Either way, it would be too much work for a VC title.

North America never had the feature anyways and we still got Pokemon Crystal so I don't think this feature is necessary (it's also why translation to other languages aren't relevant). Plus, Nintendo and GameFreak can make the content accessible via different means like how they had players get Mew in RBY VC via codes.
