I see the exclusivity deal for "Rise of the Tomb Raider" really paid off (sarcasm).
I see comments like this and i wonder if people think about Squares side of the deal?
Uncharted got delayed... but it was slated to come out at the same time.
Now, imagine you're Square... TR didn't hit your expectations (absurd though they were), and you're going to put your game out against Uncharted.
If you're a PlayStation owner, & your choice is between Uncharted and Tomb Raider that holiday season... where are you spending your money?
Microsoft looks at the end of the year, & it doesn't have something like Uncharted... but Square does. So they say to Square "sign a deal where we give you some money, & you don't release on the PS4... where you're going to get creamed anyway".
Square makes the deal, meaning they can put more money into Final Fantasy 15 (which is somehow still in development), planning to release on PS4 the following year. Naughty Dog only really does one game every 4 years or so... so they'll be well clear.
MS announces they've signed an exclusive deal... fubbing the details (intentionally or not). Then Uncharted gets delayed.
Now Square has an open window, but because they did a deal that was in their best interests a few months earlier they don't get to launch on the largest install base.
Some of the consumers who have both consoles don't buy it because of a "betrayl" by Square an MS over a game they wouldn't have bought if they couldn't gotten Uncharted instead.
Some decide they'll wait till it's out on PC or PS4 instead.
