Scorpios everywhere.

$399 with the right recipe of games will do wonders for Xbox as a brand. I doubt Sony could compete with that amount of hype.

MS needs a mic drop moment to get back in the game. I just don't think $449 would do it.

This. If MS is fine with staying in 2nd place, $449 is fine. If they want to win, it'll be $399 no question. I have a feeling they want to blow the fucking roof off tomorrow so I'm going with $399. It's the smart bet if MS truly wants get back in the game.

Sounds like they'll be announcing the free games for watching on Mixer during the conference:

RAM prices a year later are cheaper. Sony themselves have been driving the price of GDDR5 RAM down for 4 years. The 4K drives have already been shown to be barely more expensive than a standard drive. Again, the One S has been driving the price of that down for a year.

The "higher clocked" parts are still ultimately similar part to the Pro.

It's going to be $399 or less. Microsoft has been playing this one beautifully actually having people believe it's going to be higher.

Regardless, whatever price they launch at, the Pro will be $50-100 cheaper.

I'm betting on 449 myself

What you are actually saying is I don't have the right to post my thoughts like everyone else does. So far I have given my guess on the price, and expressed doubts about there being a bunch of new first party games. I haven't said these things are for sure. I have just given voice to what I am expecting, like literally everyone else in this thread.

And you regularly make snide posts mocking anyone that you deem to be too excited about what might be revealed.

I don't think you should be banned. I just think you would get less grief if you weren't a hall monitor. Lots of people have expressed the same shit as you without coming off like a dick.

Microsoft is competing to hold on to 2nd vs Nintendo. First place isn't happening this far into the gen

They won't win with $399. They'll win with $399 and killer exclusives, and a lot of them. If a bunch of companies don't come out and support this thing right out of the gate price won't matter at all, especially when we're looking at a new generation in 2-3 years most likely.

It's still a premium system in a market that is very PlayStation focused.

Nope. The price will be the same as Pro, just to prove to gamers what a "real" pro console looks like for the same price. I'm telling you guys, MS wants their Sony game sharing moment this E3. You guys are really underestimating the long con MS has played making everyone think this is gonna be priced like the OG Xbox One was. There's no fucking way.

Hey, I don't want to be a dick. I honestly don't see that in my actions, but self reflection can be hard. Mind quoting these dickish posts so that I know what you are referring to? You can do it over PM if you want to not distract from this thread.

A 399 Scorpio isn't equivalent to the game sharing moment though. It's a good price but it's still competing with cheaper products on the market, as the Pro proved.

The only way Scorpios price will be the same as the Pro at launch is if Microsoft is willing to take a loss on the hardware. History suggests they aren't.

Yep, and I know $50 doesn't SOUND like a lot, but it's all about the perception.

I am super excited to see the hardware and OS update more than the games.

I am weird like that.
Microsoft knows how to market. I'm more interested in the actual production values and how they position this than I am in the console itself.

You're not alone in being weird.

I desperately want a $399 Scorpio, but I feel like it's too good to be true. It's been constantly described as a "premium" product in regards to price, but we'll see, since now you can get a One S for $199 - and 2x as much as a base model seems pretty "premium" to me.

Praying for the best!

This gen is set, but they can build some momentum over the next couple of years leading into the next gen.

I feel like they can re-establish that they have the hardware and services with Scorpio's release, but the first-party stuff will take more time.

This gen is set, but they still have to do their best to turn the mindshare around Xbox.

This is even more important since they are not making generations anymore, as both Sony and Nintendo showed, even if you have a weak showing before in a new generation you can do better and regain people's mind very quickly. Ms doesn't get the: "Forget about Xbone guys, Xbox Two is the new shit" they need to constantly work improve their perception inch by inch.

I feel the same way. Hoping they do too. I'm prepared to pay whatever but I'd much rather they set themselves up for more success by pricing it as low as they can.

I don't believe $399 is in the realm of possibilities. I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed when 449 hits and there's no Xbox Plus exclusives.

I agree, Microsoft seems more concerned about building a platform to last, rather than focused on one console a generation.
The investment in first party developers begs to differ.

In their own words, they're perfectly comfortable taking a loss on hardware:

Phil Spencer said:
In terms of where the console space goes, there's some things about how the console business runs, in terms of you don't make any money on the hardware, it's making money on the games, making money on the service. So if you're in a situation where you're subsidizing the hardware, a faster refresh of the hardware really hurts you. Because obviously, any subsidy of the hardware is kind of played out over, somebody is going to buy games, they're going to subscribe to Live, they might go subscribe to Game Pass and other things. And that's how you kind of run a business around the console space.

So I don't think you'll see console move. Unless the prices of the consoles themselves change to where they're not a subsidized piece of hardware but rather something that's profitable, like other consumer electronic devices, I don't think you're going to see a constant iteration in the console space.

Lulz. It's nice to want things.

$399 for just the bare bones system is the absolute best we can hope for..and that would be a megaton.

I still think it's pretty much guaranteed to be $399 but it's certainly looking like $399 will be a megaton given the conversation going on here.

I'm not familiar with Mixer, is there a way to turn off the menu bar at the bottom and completely hide the chat comments when viewing in full screen? I want to be able to view the conference at the best quality without any stupid shit on the screen.

Anything above $399 limits the thing's sales potential; it'll just be another Pro situation. A higher end model for enthusiasts. I feel like if MS was going to catch up to Sony they'd try to make Scorpio the new standard.

With their new strategy of more than one spec sku plus the pc they very well may price scorpio so they get a healthy profit. The days of them dumping money into xbox without getting a return are gone. If you want cheaper option, you can buy the lower sku. Look at the surface line, those are priced at a high premium.

Microsoft just wants to drive users toward their store and services. whatever platform. If they are in 3rd but more people use the windows store because of their strategy, they will be happy.

I think their dream would be to be like valve and just maintain a platform, and stop making games and hardware.
