Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

My opinion is that $499 US is a really bad price. Needs to be $399.

My opinion is that there's nothing wrong with a journalist leaking information that he acquired (whether through a source or overhearing it himself).

But if the price is actually $399, then Geoff's integrity, professionalism, and credibility should be called into question no? He's a fantastic presenter and I enjoy watching him speak but why should anyone trust him again if the price ends up being $399?

Will be really interesting to see what happens at the conference. The price has to be $499 now or Geoff's credibility is gone. But I really really hope for $399 though, heh.

Gaf right now

If you literally need a second job to pay for a $500 console then the problem might be with your financial situation and not the price of the console.

People are too busy creating law suits against Geoff.

Ain't nobody got time for a second job.

The "it's a deliberate misdirect" take isn't believable.

From a marketing standpoint any little pop you get from a "lol we trolled the hardcores" moment by announcing 399 after leaking 499 would be FAR outweighed by confusion you would subsequently create about the real price amongst the non-hardcore.

The core and casual market will just look at the price on Amazon or best buy. They don't watch, even know, e3 is going on.

If $499 is right then the name Scorpio is pretty ironic. People are going to get stung when they realised they paid half a grand to play Assassin's Creed in 4k at 24fps

This.

THIS IS ALL MISDIRECTION.

When Microsoft announce $399, they want us to be shocked. Most of us will be "okay". They have always been building up towards the general populace to expect a $499 tag and want the mic drop moment with $399. At this point, it feels tiring.
What feels tiring is people thinking MS is some marketing mastermind that would go through some fucking roundabout viral marketing ploy just for people to be excited for the thing people were already naturally interested to hear about and would be just as surprised about the price if they announced it normally.

I must say this thread is turning out to be pretty hilarious. Hell people, even if what Geoff heard was $499, MS can change the price at the last minute. He thought he had a fairly sure leak, leave it at that.

I don't think Geoff will want his credibility shot for spreading fake news. He could've just kept quiet about it if he wasn't sure it was going to be landing at that price point.

If anything, this just softens the blow from just revealing $499 at the conference itself.

Can we get Geoff under oath that Scorpio will be $499?
Yes. We can call his tweets the "Keighley Memos", which are bullshit Spencer possibly has tapes of the whole thing. Keighley assured him that he wasn't under journalistic investigation, but felt obliged to leak the memos after being pressured to wash his hands of the Doritos cheese altogether like it never happened.

Interesting. It seems to me that Microsoft doesn't understand why the PS4 was successful - price point.

That is a high price especially if it just runs the same games on Xbox one and PS4 at a higher resolution/better effects.

It will be interesting to see if they can get sales from those outside the core Xbox gamer.

Oh they probably understand it - but when both sides are using same technology base then the only way of making box 50% stronger is by using more expensive parts.

I'm sure the people impressed with the specs will have no problem paying this.

It's the people who wanted this to be the resurgence of Xbox to combat Sony that are disappointed.

The way people treated and expected Scorpio to change the landscape was crazy. Overall I don't think the general market gives a fuck about Pro or this.

But seriously, if it is $499 MS should have put that out there a couple of weeks ago. Not set fire to their E3 show again.

It's a fine price for anyone seriously interested but at the same time it will surround it in negativity all week.

If it was 499 CAD,I would grab one for sure but man...I wanted to go full 4K around November to go along with Scorpio, this means new HDTV and A/V Receiver also, but if Scorpio is like 650 before tax CAD,not sure anymore...we shall see in a few hours I guess.

Eh, I'm not a corporatist brainwashed drone, so I don't care about sales whatsoever. But I'd have trouble affording a 500 bucks console, it is what it is. In terms of sales fightz, I couldn't care less but as a general rule, the consumer benefits from actual competition.

Why is people pushing this "no one will buy an Xbox at 499.99" narrative? Does everyone forget the price of the original Xbox One? It sold less but it sold fine.

Something something 4-dimensional chess

Did you miss the teaser video with the hidden image tag that leads to $399? Why did you think they did that so elaborately?

Today is Father's Day. I don't think the "non-hardcore" ever hear about the pre-show rumors to begin with. They just see a new system for $399, which is the most they were going to pay for a new system in respectable numbers anyway. The only people a deliberate misdirect could impact are the people who are paying attention... who are already mostly expecting that. The whole thing is just too dumb and purposeless for somebody to stake their reputation on it.

They rehearsed the price at $499, hoping that the price would leak. Then, at the conferenace, they announce the price at $399 to everyone's surprise! *speculation*
Yeap...

How are the chances to somebody rehearsed the fake $499 price dozen of times and at the live show with big audience, fucking nervous he says by mistake the fake rehearsed price instead the real one?

You do rehearsing to not make mistake at the big live time... that is why you use the final script words.

Maybe $499 isn't so bad, if you think of it in this way.

Nintendo recently launched the Switch for $299 in March. In docked / home console mode, it does ~393 GFlops.

Scorpio is 15 times more powerful ( 6000 GFlops = 6 TFlops ) and might cost $499.

That comparison is meaningless, I know, yet just a way to think about things, heh.
