Despite all of Chloe's glaringly apparent flaws, I was pretty damn invested in her character, so this is most definitely a day 0 purchase for me regardless of how it reviews lol. I'm honestly super stoked to see the dynamic between her and Rachel. I already ship them tbh, like who even is Max Cauliflower? But more importantly: will there even be time-travelling?!?!

I'm also looking forward to the inevitable dope-ass soundtrack. They've already got one of my favorite Daughter songs down lol.

But the thing is, we don't need to know any of this. Where Max got her powers from doesn't matter, and there's no reason for us to meet Rachel, as her purpose was served by being what she was in the original game. We also don't need to see Chloe right before this happens, and we really don't need anything mystical to happen to Chloe, because that then just cheapens how special Max was in the world in which she existed.

Yeah these semtinements echo my worries, I fear this'll be a classic case of a prequel making the backstory less interesting than what your imagination could infer, while also cheapening the original game in some way.

If nothing else, it'll be neat to be back in that world again, but I'm somewhat hesitant in being excited about what this'll add to the LiS story.

No, we don't. But people liked LiS, there's an appeal in the setting and cast, and the devs might want to tell that story.

Most prequels aren't needed. They're entirely supplementary. Until subsequent sequels start using their material, anyway (looking at Metal Gear Solid)
