Life is Strange: Before the Storm (3 Episodes Prequel) Announced (by Idol Minds)

Ashly Burch writing this time, Rhianna DeVries voice acting Chloe.

This is so weird, and disappointing. Wonder if it's because they can't afford Ashly Burch, and have pulled her in for a tiny bit of writing just so they can say that she's involved.

My tinfoil hat theory is that this exists because there's elements of the story Dontnod didn't get to tell LiS.

-The deer

-The origin of Max's powers/Native American history of the town

-Rachel and her similarity to Max

Errrr I think you might have missed the point of the first game a little bit there. The supernatural elements were allegorical, they served thematic/subtext purposes. They don't need to be explained, and it's doubtful that the writers even had a literal explanation to begin with.

It's like wanting a literal explanation for the existence of the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey or something.

Not really sure they needed to go backwards in the story instead of forward. Also, without Max around, I wonder how the rewind shenanigans will occur (if they occur at all).

Nevertheless, I think I'm in.

It will be hard to play a LiS game without Max though... very hard.

Also considering that I didn't really like Chloe all that much
I didn't have to think long at the ending and sacrificed her for the greater good
and Rachel doesn't seem like a strong cast either.

Also, in case anyone was in doubt, they basically confirmed via that developer post that Life Is Strange 2 definitely won't feature any Life Is Strange characters, as they didn't want to canonise either one of the Life Is Strange endings.

Such a shame really, seeing as one ending was brilliant and one was crap. They shouldn't have given the player any choice at the end of the first game, it didn't add anything at all.

I want to be hyped for this. There were many things I enjoyed about the first game. I really enjoyed the performance Ashly Burch gave, but the overall storytelling was sloppy. The game's setting had many weird inconsistent details, and seemed more interested in creating emotional choices rather than making sense. Then there was that final episode which I just couldn't stand.

I don't really get what a prequel gives us other than more Chloe. I mean I liked Chloe, but I don't know if this was really needed for the character. At best this will work to explain and contextualize some of the character's more selfish behavior. However, this will just draw attention to how crappy the endings were to the first game. I don't need the supernatural elements explained, but lingering on this character's suffering seems almost morbid.

i am happy to hear that the sequel will be a hard break though, let them focus on writing a good story this time. Having said all that I'll still probably get this when all the episodes come out.

I wonder what "gimmick" mechanic they'll have.

I quite liked the rewind mechanic in LiS, because the problem I have with so many adventure games is that the dialogue choice you make doesn't necessarily lead to the action you want to take. LiS allowing you to see all the choices and baking it into the gameplay itself felt very freeing. I hope this prequel doesn't invite save-scumming.

Eh, I love LiS but wasn't really expecting or hoping for a prequel. Might still pick it up if reviews/impressions are positive after release.

I'm not entirely certain it's necessary, but I'm there day 0.

Despite not being the developers, I hope the original team have at least written it.

I'm not upset with Burch doing writing at all, the dialogue in Season 1 was.. rough at times to put it lightly.

Kinda bummed she's not voicing Chloe again like everyone else.

Life is Strange won me over, so I'll give this a shot even if it's a different dev. I can only imagine they had some collusion for developing the story arc at least.

Eh. Big LiS fan, but I kind of don't want this to exist. Tacked on additions to existing, self-contained stories (especially prequels) tend to feel superfluous at best, and badly fan-ficcy at worst. Still on the fence about whether or not I will even play this.

Fucking hella pumped for this. Announcement of the show for me so far. Bring on the tears!

Wait...Ashly Burch isn't voicing Chloe? I don't understand that. I'm still excited, but I don't get that.

Cant wait. So disappointing seeing ignorant comments in the reveal thread like "teen angst-the game?"

And "Meh some emo kid game"

This is why developers rarely take risks anymore.

How the hell are they gonna make a Chloe focused prequel and CHANGE THE VA?

That makes no fucking sense. What.

I'm not fond of Chloe having a different voice actress.

I don't know if I'll be able to handle
Rachel's death.

Kind of unnecessary since we already know how that story played out for Chloe and Rachel from start to finish. Sure we don't know the day to day stuff but we know the start, middle, and end. And no Burch for Chloe is an extremely odd choice.

I haven't played LiS (gonna change that tonight) but a VA change seems reaaaally odd for a main character. I would understand if it was a Cole from Infamous situation but she was fine.

I don't really understand why this exists. I feel like fleshing out Rachel can only make her less special.

Still, I'll play it...

How does this work? Why would I change the default outfit on a narrative game?

I can't watch the video, but how would the time reversal mechanic work with Chloe? I thought Max was the only one who could do it?

Rachel has the Power but in the end she decides to die because the Power fucks Everything, and Chloe always get killed, Donnie Darko style
Or she has a New power

Thanks. No data on mobile is a bitch. Hmm, very odd. Though I suppose understandable from a narrative perspective. Not sure if it's LiS without it to be honest...

And you should learn to read.
He wasn't talking about you personally. He was talking about you playing as Chloe. Think before you make decisions in the game.
