The Witcher 3 4K Patch for Xbox One X

That's kinda hypocritical considering they refused to support the PS4 pro. I smell some financial incentives here, but I might be wrong here. Maybe they will do a PS4 pro patch as well.

They had financial incentives from MS for the launch of W3 so getting paid to do a Scorpio update wouldn't be out of left field. They already showed they don't give a fuck about shortchanging PC and PS4 players if they are paid to.

What else did they get a pass for?

The XBO CE had additional items that the other platforms couldn't get.

In the console wars this is a poisoned dagger. I'm just waiting for someone to say they will never support the developer again if the Pro doesn't get a patch.

If MS paid for the patch I see no reason to not keep it exclusive.

And I would give mad props for MS dishing out money to the benefit of their customers.

It's still incredible shitty, especially for a company like CDPR, IF it's the case.
I don't blame MS, but that's a dangerous route developers would walk and I know, I wouldn't support a single studio that goes that path.

There's a difference between cosmetic dlc or maybe some guns that are part of a marketing deal, and different performance based on patches a console manufacturer paid.

But it's just speculation at that point, so let's just wait for some proper information.

What else did they get a pass for?

For not releasing Blood and Wine as a stand alone "Game of the Year" Witched 3 edition and charging $59.99. They should have done that. There was enough content there. They easily could of got away with it.

For not charging for the MASSIVE amount of free updates and fixes post release. Should have been payed DLC.

Sure I'm missing something.

What else did they get a pass for?

Downgradegate and not partnering up with GMG for key selling?

I guess.

I don't speak the language, but get idea.

Thanks, was curious about sourcing. Still somewhat are because, well, source is text message that I don't know to be dev but still.

How is it shitty for a developer to want money for work?

Really curious as to what they'll do with it.

Is 4K@30fps-locked possible?
Is 1080p@60fps-targeted possible?

4k 30 fps should easily be doable. I don't think an overclocked 970 was way too far off from that at console settings, and the X1X has a good bit more GPU power to work with.

I'm so confused about these consoles. I was under the assumption XB1X could actually play games natively at 4k while the Pro could not. Wouldn't blow my mind if devs like messing around with the extra power.

I made a throw away joke in another thread about exclusive 4K patches. Good god, if it actually becomes a thing.

I think people should ask So y why they don't want to pay for the patch. I mean, it's not CPDR doing this for free because MS asked them.

Witcher 3 has had a ton of post release support. People are completely nuts.

Easy sure, but if devs are done with a game they require incentive to go back and do said work & releasing that.

Highly likely CDPR got some kind of kickback.

The base game uses dynamic resolution scaling. Likely not all that tough to allow it to scale up to 4K. I'd imagine they can just patch in the highest end PC textures.

No the message does not state anything. They currently have no statement and are working in it. Could mean they are working on a statement or working on a patch which is not clear from the answer.

Ah I see. Well then we'll just wait for info. If not, it should still see some improvements.

On Xb1x, requires very little effort.

Same can't be said for Pro.

You don't really need to optimize a lot to get 4K or super sampling in most cases.

You're talking nonsense. It's a resolution increase. There's a reason PC games can easily support pretty much any resolution effortlessly.

Fucked up after not patching the Pro. But watch em get a pass here as per usual.

This is very annoying.

CDPR doesn't owe you anything. Patching for a console that was released AFTER their game was released is something they don't need to do. They don't owe you anything. They released a game with tons of content. Their DLC was cheaper than most map packs, and provided a shit load of content and quality.

But yea okay, keep acting like CDPR should spend their time, money, and effort because you bought a new console.

I think it's because it's CDPR which has a certain reputation thanks to stuff like their DRM stance (though for some reason they were still on MS' stage during the height of their DRM push which felt soooo weird).

Hope they patch PS4 Pro

They originally said they wouldn't do it

.

why is it an assumption that a company updates for the Xbox-X its MS giving them money? Careless accusations with no substance or proof... maybe they didnt feel like the PS Pro wouldnt be that big of an improvement...who knows, but assumptions about paying for updates is counter productive and looks like someone is reaching. Life isnt fair, heck i hate exclusives on every platform, i wish every game was multi plat, but its not gonna happen.
PS4 Pro has about 10 games with native 4k, and of those 10 games only about 3 are big games, its not cut out for native 4k...so what doesnt mean its not a great system... no system gets everything...ask an xbox owner about destiney or call of duty content..delayed or dont get it at all.

It would be an incredibly shitty move of CDPR to support the Xbox One X and not PS4 Pro. I'd be legit angry.

Even if MS is paying them for the support? I mean it isn't like they would do it out of the goodness of their hearts. Maybe MS asked them for it and they obliged wanting to maintain a good relationship or MS provided financial incentives or support. We don't know yet.

I kinda expected this because of how shitty pro support has been. I thought MS would try harder to get devs to support the Xbox one X. Hopefully this makes Sony do more too

If MS is paying for the patch maybe you should redirect that anger towards Sony for not working with the developer to make it happen.

If MS are paying for it, direct your anger towards Sony. Phil mentioned enhancements to Xbox games for free, which does sound like they're bearing the cost.

Edit: Scary how close my response was to yours diabolos

It's more that the flat out denied Pro support in the past because they needed to put resources to their next games, a completely reasonable situation. Going back on that for a console releasing a year later would be frustrating especially for a company that prides themselves on fair business practices and long term support for their games.

Early console performance is the most likely reference here.

Just blows my mind. CDPR is the most consumer friendly AAA dev by a mile right now. Going as far to champion DRM free gaming and supporting their games for much longer than what is industry standard.

Now they're "getting passes". Lmao.

If MS is willing to pay for a 4K upgrade more power to them. Sony and MS should pay extra for such upgrades because we as players certainly are not paying for it.

This is a very dangerous step in the wrong direction. Exclusive patches means you're purposely making sure that a particular platform has worse performance than another even if it could perform better. It's not like money hatting conspiracy theories aren't already bad enough, this will undoubtedly make things worse.

Pretty fucking diskish of them after having no interest in supporting the ps4 pro.

Makes me lose respect because I'm sure money made it happen.

Kinda glad I haven't played the expansion packs yet.

Is it 100% confirmed that this update comes to Xbox One X only?

They said they didn't want to slow down for a PS4 Pro patch way back and focus on Cyberpunk, but maybe they'll do it on X1X if it's relatively easy to implement whatever the PC version can do.

Am I the only PS4 Witcher 3 player here that doesn't care if they only patch the X version? I honestly thought this would be received better. Who knows what the situation is, maybe MS flew engineers out there to help out with it. I hope there's Pro support down the line too but this isn't the end of the world.

I've heard of port begging, but I don't know if I've seen patch begging before.

If XoX is straight up native and Pro needs checkerboarding, then maybe not that easy.

Nope.

This is entirely different. Here we have a game which was developed before either of this 4k consoles was a thing. This is unplanned cost to the developer and they have no obligation to patch their game for it.

This isn't a performance patch to the original product. The original product still stands on both consoles. This is above and beyond and I'm glad MS was able to make it happen where Sony couldn't.
