Console launch exclusive?

Console Launch Exclusive just means the Xbox version will be the only console version with an executable to start/launch the game.

/s

I really hope the US gets an advertisement watchdog soon, if this happened on UK soil, they would be fined almost immediately for deliberate confusing and/or misleading customers.

Unreleased actual exclusives on stage--
Forza 7
State Of Decay 2
Sea Of thieves
Crackdown 3
Ori 2
Cuphead
Crimson Skies (BC)

Important thing to note is that all these games apart from Ori 2 should be out by this time next year, so it looks like a new strategy by MS not to show games too early.

In reference to PC most likely as it's the same eco system.

First on the Xbox consoles at launch and later on PC was my assumption.

I thought console exclusive means on console it's a full exclusive but it's also releasing on PC? When did console exclusive become synonymous with "timed exclusive"?

Just watched the conference, and luckily Annapurna's Ashen was the only timed exclusive that was of interest to me. I found it odd, that the crowd cheered for the console launch exclusives towards the end of the conference. What's there to cheer about? They'd be able to play the games either way, now others just play them a bit later.

This is the Steve tweet Greg saw, I think. "Not launching on other consoles" just seems like a rephrasing of "console launch exclusive" to me.

This reads like Steve has a lot of contractual stuff limiting him from saying the phrases that would actually shed some light on what the phrase means. He can't say that it will come to PlayStation later, or acknowledge that there is a deal in place that will expire after X number of months, so he gets stuck having to use the same "launch" terminology that Microsoft is.

First class citizens cheer for being first class citizens

I'm glad this thread already exists. I too was confused by the wording of "console launch exclusive." I guess it's an even more deceptive way of saying "launching first on" or "coming first to ____."

I presume(d) it meant ConsoleA+PC at launch, ConsoleB later.

Like 'console exclusive' means ConsoleA+PC. So I assume the 'launch' qualifier means exclusive in a console context at launch only, and doesn't also mean exclusive vis-a-vis PC at launch.

Worth noting that the language doesn't actually imply the game is coming to other platforms, only that the option was left open in whatever contract they signed for the devs to do so after x time. Although with the (relative) ease of modern porting its usually an inevitability.

Apparently it's working. Gamestar.de this morning:

Microsoft und Bluehole Studio haben im Rahmen einer Pressekonferenz im Vorfeld der E3 2017 verraten, dass Playerunknown's Battlegrounds auf Konsolen exklusiv für die Xbox One erscheinen wird.[...]Besitzer einer PlayStation 4 bleiben außen vor.
http://www.gamestar.de/artikel/play...konsolenversion-von-anderem-team,3315456.html

Microsoft and Bluehole Studios revelead [...] that Playerunknown's Battlegrounds will be releasing exclusively on Xbox One on consoles.[...]PlayStation 4 owners get left out.

I read 'console launch exclusive' as releasing on launch of the One X and being exclusive. Obviously with the Tacoma release that wasn't it. So it's just timed exclusive.

Smart if you ask me, especially given the Scalebound situation.

I'm never gonna port cry over any game. But I'm looking forward to a couple of them launch exclusives heading to PlayStation at some point. If they somehow never do, it's unfortunate, but I'll get over it with plenty of other games to play.

When the wording was changed to console launch exclusive. Launch brings a whole new meaning to the message.

Yeah, this is a more mild attempt at the Rise of the Tomb Raider obfuscation again, but on a much larger scale.

Yup this was confusing to me as well specially because the voice simply said "exclusive", which is rather not true then.

That bit was especially troubling. The words on screen and the voiceover did not match up.

Those would be clearer and more straightforward ways of saying the same thing, but I suppose they needed to pretend most of these games are fully exclusive to plug the holes in their anaemic first-party line up.

Its a timed exclusive like Rise of the Tomb Raider. It will on xbox and pc first and then be ported to the ps4 in a few months (probably 6 months or so)

It's the shady Microsoft way to make us think they have more exclusive games for their platform than they actually have.

Or they are exclusive for now, while they're not in development for other platforms yet. I mean, it seems really unlikely to keep a game exclusive to xbox unless Microsoft picks up the bill, but maybe some of these studios can't afford to develop for multiple platforms at the same time ?

If they had a iron-clad contract whereby these games were fully exclusive to Xbox as the only console the terminology would be different. Just like the terminology was different for MS first-party games.

Doubt it. Black desert online for example already said they were working on ps4 / xbox version. Most likely just first on xbox and days / weeks / months later on other consoles.

In reference to PC most likely as it's the same eco system.

First on the Xbox consoles at launch and later on PC was my assumption.

And this post right here shows the bs confusion it's causing.

It's releases on Xbox and PC first and then other consoles later.

Which means not exclusive at all. If your game is on PC too then stop calling it exclusive.

I agree, MS seems desperate to shake off the optics of not having much to offer in terms of exclusive content. That being said, if they didn't seal up exclusivity through a contract, then a game could still be exclusive if any ports haven't been planned, yet. Allthough i personally expect every single 'launch exclusive' to end up on other platforms.

This may be one of the most meaningless PR terms ever coined, right there with "interactive" back in the day. You could release a game on PC, years later on XBox, then a day later on PS4 and Switch, and it would still be a "console launch exclusive". Basically the only thing it guarantees is that it won't release earlier on PS4 or Switch. Who-fucking-hoo.

I don't know what's so hard to say "First on Consoles", I guess that doesn't sound as good.

And to be honest, the PUBG was the man at fault, he said exclusive at least twice and I think it is just an exclusive for this year.

Oh and if you guys want to see how it's being reported in some of the Middle East press check this out:

Aiming at the hearts of gamers, Microsoft also showed off 42 coming games, with 22 of the titles being tailored for exclusive play on Xbox One consoles.

http://gulfnews.com/business/sector...-one-x-targets-sony-s-playstation-4-1.2042138

22 exclusives guys. Everything is going according to plan for Microsoft in terms of how they've set this up.

It was literally "fake news": the conference.

Most of them are indies, so there's probably no actual contract involved, just a business decision to develop for one platform first and port elsewhere later.

Similar to how the Witness launched on PS4/PC, and came to Xbox some time later, and various other indies that have gone PS4/PC->Xbox, or PC/Xbox->PS4.

Wording is okay (first on xbox was better) but the voice calling "exclusive" was not okay imo.

Wasn't just the wording. Spencer and Greenburg both used the terms "exclusive" and "exclusivity" without console launch. As in, Phil said 2-3 times on stage that they had 22 exclusives to show. If 15-16 of them are timed, then they are not exclusives, so is he lying?

This is what was bothering me about it. They can have all the exclusive games they want, but taking games that are already announced for other platforms and making them timed exclusive is rather shifty. Seems like an ROTR situation again for some of these. If a game is announced first for XB1 and no other platforms, but announced for those platforms later, that's fine. It's all a bit confusing, but I guess it's worth it someone to say exclusive.

every console launch exclusive game will have a huge tread speculating when it will be released on other consoles. Seemed to me that they tried to convince us that they had alot of exclusives when in fact they didnt. Both State of decay 2 and Sea if thieves delayed to 2018 making this year of exclsuives for xbox extremely poor and this is 3,5 years in the console cycle.
