I really wish these people would realize that there is no such thing as a well written character story that doesn't have an agenda.

Yeah, maybe its my bad and I would dig more into this. Last week went to a videogame meet up here in Buenos Aires, and there was like a 15 min talk about it , and I was completely out of touch of what they were talking about.

I bet if I walked down the street and asked the first 100 people I saw what gamergate was, none of them would know what I'm talking about.

Gamergate is a hate movement targeting women in the game industry.

These empowered little 4chan rejects (broadly speaking, not just these devs) need to crawl back into their hole. They have been co opted by political forces and are quite literally destroying the world right now. What is actually going on?!

I mean, it's been a long time since it was burning at the forefront of internet gaming culture, which is already an extremely limited sphere of influence.

However the way stuff like Gamergate influenced the rise and coalescence of the alt-right in America... we don't need to get into re-litigating gamergate for your convenience (no offense) but it was, and still is in a lot of ways, a vile movement dedicated to the harassment of women in video gaming.

My wife knows what gamergate is with no prompting from myself. One day she just started a conversation about it, and this is from a woman that plays like 1 game every few years.

If you're reading properly, you should understand that it's meant as a statement relative to standards from a century ago. I think the phrasing could be better, but it seems silly to focus on this tiny aspect of the article (the extent to which pornographers are "shunned"). The larger issue is that technology slowly erodes taboos.

Oh for sure, which is why I posted my disclaimer saying "this is 100% a believable statement".

Only a small number of a small number of people on the internet in gaming culture know what Gamergate was and is. Still, it's always surprising to see on here.

Even if we can define ourselves as “desensitised”, our kids will surprise us. People need to be shocked, because people seek shock value. People need taboos in order to be transgressive, or rebel. So they will create them, going to new extremes or redefining old ones. There might, for example, be a character in The Last Night that makes a living by inventing new ones. If we told you about them out of the context of the game though, they might be shocking for the wrong reasons.

Seemed like an interesting excerpt. It really does all read like an incredibly naive edgelord being made ecstatic by his own enlightenment. IDK. I've not read too much cyberpunk. Only Neuromancer and a few Stephenson novels. Will be keeping my eye on this whole... thing.

Not sure if any French people are here, but the jeuxvideo forums is apparently the French alt-right hideout as far as I've been told the last year or so.

Seems like a losing battle to come to a forum where the grand majority have made up their minds they aren't going to support you and are against what you and/or your team stand for.

Seems like a better use of his time would be save face with other internet communities he can still do so with.

It's really weird that you've mentioned people on this forum hating you at least twice now, when I've seen no personal attacks or anything that would indicate that. People disagree with your posts and are sure to say they do and why, but please don't act like being disagreed with is personal and there's some hate squad here to get you.

for what it's worth, I've said some shit 6 years ago and was a much more immature person then than I am now, so if he means the apology I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that people can evolve their views and understand they were wrong.

His most recent posts don't seem to show he really has changed MUCH, but at least he hasn't seem to be spewing #gamergate shit recently.
