Ubisoft has some photos up on their website. I love this one of Shani

Very early insight but so far doesn't sound like it'll have a tight SP campaign. Still hyped though. Love Sci-fi.

Man, this is some monkey's paw shit. Yeah okay we'll finally give you a BG&E game, but it's a prequel, none of the old characters return, and is now 1000% edgier.

Great.

I was hyped as fuck for a sec, but damn they didn't really show shit or tell us much. CG trailers don't do anything for me

how will this game look and play? anything like BG&E? I guess we gotta wait for a while

Yep. As someone who puts BGE on a very high pedestal - one of my favorite games, if admittedly a fair bit outside my Top Ten All Time - this is a huge disappointment.

Don't get me wrong; great trailer! But not for a sequel to BGE.
This is similar to where I'm at. The trailer was good. It's Ancel so i think the game will be too.

It's just... Probably not the bge2 I wanted

Still gutted about this.

I feel like I'm playing MGS 2 for the first time all over again.

At least we'll still get to play as Raz in Psychonauts 2 :/

I actually can't believe how many people were impressed by this.

I'm gutted. I love Michel Ancel and Ubisoft Montpellier, but this isn't what I expected at all.

The first game was such a gem - with a beautiful stylized art direction and whimsy that fit within that time period so well. Jade and Pey'j were terrific characters, and all the prior mentions of BG&E2 made it seem like we were getting a sequel. Instead we have some fuck-laden game with jiggle physics.

What has been shown so far isn't at all what I wanted on any level. The should call this Beyond Worse and Evil.

In their defense, the sequel I wanted - something more akin to Ratchet & Clank or Psychonauts 2 - probably would perform well in today's market. Maybe they feel that had to make a change to be relevant. Hopefully a new generation of fans can love it, but for now it would appear I'm out.

Sony better pick me up from this low.

Amen. Summarized my feelings exactly. If this game turns out as shown, it's a definite no buy from me.

Presumably the woman at the end is Jade's mother. The original game did hint at a backstory for her parents so it makes sense that this is a prequel.

Now that I think about it... this would make sense.

I'm looking forward to it (and will play it offline).

They didn't have to slap a Beyond Good and Evil title on it, this could have easily been a new IP. But the name alone did generate enough buzz around it, it's a smart marketing move.

Looks awful. Nothing like the first game. Gritty brown environments. Tons of swearing/edginess. No Jade. Have absolutely no idea why people are impressed by it. What an abomination.

Great.

Other than talking animals this barely seems related to BGE to be honest. I wonder how this project came about, and if the reason Jade isn't in here is because Ancel still has an idea for a real sequel in his head.

I trust Ancel to build a narrative I can enjoy and lace his unique kind of charm throughout.

Also wouldn't be surprised at all if he's taking a stab at an open world game with space as the filler content and planets as the backbone for narrative as a general rule, but layering drop in/drop out co-op as part of the campaign. That'd be a really interesting idea.

Lastly, open world doesn't mean a lack of tight SP campaign. Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of the best stories told in video games and it's in an open world framework.

While I assume this is sarcasm... I mean this is getting pretty true.
It's still not an unreasonable expectation - especially given the game in question - and assuming it would have a multiplayer world with a story driven portion as well. If so much is changed, why then even call it BG&E? Just to cash in on the old fans' hopes and dreams? Why create such a story driven, linear progression trailer, if the game is not going to be anything like that?

So i was never a fan of BG&E back in the day but the world here definitely stood out. Lots of style lots of cool visuals buuut...

entirely CG and trying just.... a little hard with most of that dialogue. I swear up and down the street till my shoes wear thin and even i don't say "Every Fucking cop in the fuckin city after that fucking monkey fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck" ...

came across like south park or something

Still - depending on how this looks in reality it could be something super unique. And that should always be welcome...

I don't have a problem with sequels being set before prequels, but this being so different might have been good to give it a different name, Like Before Good & Evil, or something better that takes more than a second to think up.

Do we know something other than there's something online and being a prequel?

Alright, I'll admit that's a very slight exaggeration.

If they were further along in the project maybe less so, but right now they're so early in pre production that they're still gathering feedback.

Maybe there's a chance yet to get that proper, single player focused game supporters wanted?

I'm not talking about open world framework, I mean a tight focused SP campaign. Open world or not.

The heavily implied online framework such as working up from a lowly pirate to a legendary and seamless online world. Does bring up doubts how focused SP would be. But so far not enough information for anything conclusive.

This is almost Federation Force levels of not listening to your fanbase and strongest supporters.

"Well if you loved BGE so much, you should've bought more copies!!!"

I hope this decision pays off for them, I really do...but without Jade or Pey'j i'm giving this game a pass.
