What did you fucking think of the fucking Beyond Good & Evil 2 trailer?

People keep saying it's looks nothing like BGE, but there was a moment in the trailer where I started thinking, "what ELSE could this be, given that it's Ubisoft? They can't have another IP with talking animals, that technology, and futuristic setting crossed with familiar but locales"

They probably mean it in different way. The second that trailer hit and camera went down I was jumping around and screaming FINALLY!!! But after that I was what the fuck. That's def not Pey'j and that chick looks like Jade but she's not. Minutes later I was thinking maybe that's their parents, but that's not the point.

I think majority wanted a sequel or prequel about Jade and Pay'j. Not that it's not BG&E, that's not what everyone expected. Kinda feel sad now, but I'm gonna wait and see what the actual game looks like.

Hahaha, wow - surprised at the first page of GAF shooting their load prematurely at a CGI trailer with zero gameplay. And online environment along with 'needs the community to help make the game' - what??
Sounds like they have no concept on the gameplay and only have the design of the characters and cities laid out.....after years of working on a sequel.

Not happy at all with this.

This is the next FFXV for me.

Man i'm really kind of bummed about this. So many years and then we don't get to continue with Jade?
Also i really disliked the Ape. (Especially the writing for him) And in the bit of Gameplay we saw on the screen behind when they talked you could see an Ape Character being played... i really hope that only means we can create our Character and are not limited to humans. Don't want to play as that guy.

One thing is for sure they better give us a lot of information very fast, because until now i'm not seeing what i wanted from BG&E2.

One hour after people had to eat crow, because of misjudging a game they knew nothing about, people are judging a game they know nothing about.

Rinse and repeat.

I guess it says something about me that I didn't notice the language. I really did think you were complaining about the cheeky attitude, not the words per se. And I see the cheeky attitude as present in the original.

All the swearing really did was tell me this is not for young kids.

People act like swearing implies that something is dumb. While I see that point of view, it can also imply that it's aiming at an older audience, which means it should respect my intelligence more than, say, the usual Mario game plot aimed at toddlers. It's a good message to send when the game stars anthropomorphic animals, and could otherwise be a baby game.
This is awesome

Swearing matched the tone of this trailer perfectly.
I don't understand why people get so hung up on it, either.
Eh, I tried to convince myself of that as well, but something didn't click, if you ask me. I'm not saying this was on the level of dissonance as if there was swearing in say, Kung-Fu Panda, but it didn't seem right either somehow.

You can have a game like this with a huge story focus. Just look at Final Fantasy XIV as an example, or even some of the cutscenes in GTA Online for one of the earlier attempts at that.
Fair enough, I'm not familiar with either of those.

What the hell does "edgy" even mean anymore? There's swearing and violence in the trailer, but it's incredibly lighthearted overall, and I don't think you could accuse Ancel of being anything close to nihilistic.

You're responding to me with the attitude I was already responding to.

Yeah I know swearing is dumb and people roll their eyes because its adolescent appeal. We all know.

But what I know from the swearing in this game is that it isn't going to be a baby game. It isn't another Star Fox style plot where I know nothing interesting can ever happen because of the barriers of being family friendly.
This nonsense should be put to rest.
Yes The Wire would feel much more mature without the swearing, and only adolescents swear all the time!

Some info from Guillemot on the Youtube show:

  • Collaborative with fans and people who can have an impact (something very important for Ancel)
  • It's not funding by fans, it's creative collaboration with fans and reiterate based on feedback and suggestions
  • 3 years working on a new engine
  • Closed doors display of a in-engine gameplay segment at this E3

edit: sorry about the spelling and grammar mistakes

Can't watch the trailer right now but I saw the image in the OP, does that mean no more Jade, no more pey'j ? So it's a reboot ? why is it called number 2 ?

From Yves talk on youtube live at E3 it really sounds like Ancel have free hands to do what he wants with this without too much hands from ubisoft deciding stuff.

Yeah, I knew right away once some of the real scenes started and especially when we got to the pig guy.

This is not what I want from a BG&E sequel. I don't feel like the setting can stand on its own without Jade and Pey'j. This would be like making a Jak game that takes place in Haven City without Jak & Daxter.

This. I should be on cloud 9 having waited for this for so long, but instead I'm feeling a bit of everything. Loved the trailer though.

Guess people must be hyped. Tons of copies of the original have sold since the announcement on eBay. More than the last several months combined lmao.

was just about to post this.

Seriously. Naming it BGE2 implies it's a sequel... that either continues a story or at least takes place after the original. I don't personally mind a prequel but the naming is just confusing and wrong.

I think I'm on board with this. BG&E is so old, really who gives a fat fuck about continuing its story directly, it wrapped up well enough barring a wholly uninteresting cliffhanger. This BG&E2 feels like it carries the spirit of the original, insomuch as the original probably would have been like this had it been made today. BG&E was really big about politics and social issues, we gotta get a version of that that fits in today's climate, something relevant, not just a slavish following of an old Zelda-like. I'm excited to see more.

Every suggestion for the first several months probably will be (and actually should be maybe), get Jade and Pey'j in this damn game even if it means changing the time period unless there's really going to be some deep story with her mom and dad despite the potential multiplayer.

Especially since even if this were to do well it'll be another 30 years before there's anymore BG&E even if this game comes out before they get bought by Vivendi.

Edit: Though some kind of segment for them might not be a terrible middle point to meet the fans.

Thanks, since I can't watch the video now but... That is a lot of unintelligible blabber. ;P

Collaboration how?

BGE, quite counter-intuitively to its title, was a pretty simple story about people breaking free from an alien occupation. Whatever political charge was there was surface level. It did not tackle any real social issues whatsoever.

I was hyped at first but now I can't help but feel disappointed. No Jade, no Pay'J, co op focused, and its a prequel not a continuation of Beyond Good and Evil 1. Man, such a bummer to wait 15 years only to get this.

Looks awful. Nothing like the first game. Gritty brown environments. Tons of swearing/edginess. No Jade. Have absolutely no idea why people are impressed by it. What an abomination.

I can understand the salt ITT, but I'm more happy Ancel is getting to make the game he wants to make. The BG&E universe is interesting enough to warrant exploration beyond Jade's story.

As long as Ubi keeps their online meddling to a minimum I think this will turn out just fine.

How is optional co-op "Co-op focused"? Also the rumors forever have been that this is a prequel that is also a sequel to the original game.

The fuck does this even mean?

Ancel? You have no ideas on what to do with this game? Really?

They were acting on stage as if the damn game was done finally and had gone Gold or something.

If it's so unimportant why not just go for a reboot then

Fair question. I never know how these things are decided.

Feels like this basically is a reboot. There are only a few story points this has to deal with to make it a story that connects to the first. The rest of it will be very different.

The first sold poorly but carries a following seemingly larger than the original purchase audience...so who do they appeal to?

I think that just making that same game again isn't what they wanted. The people making this just want to move beyond Beyond Good and Evil (lulz! I'm great)

I would guess at this point Ubi wants the cache of the first game without the first game itself.

It's dumb, but I always think of Deadpool in Wolverine Origins. The studios at the time REALLY wanted a deadpool movie because it was considered hot. However, they didn't want Deadpool to be anything at all like the property itself.

"How do we cash in on BGAE wihout really making anything resembling BGAE?"
