Dragon Ball FighterZ (PC/XB1/PS4, BN/ASW, UE4, early 2018, beta Sum 2017) E3 trailer

I wonder if Super Saiyan God/Super Saiyan Blue Goku will be a totally separate character.

I would've been good with Super Saiyan Blue requiring like 4 or 5 meters to activate.

I strongly doubt they'd bother giving them variations for each arc - Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta are clearly using their Cell saga variations, and at most I'd expect maybe an adult form for Gohan (using Potential Unleashed) and a SSB form for Goku and Vegeta. That still leaves a significant chunk of the cast unaccounted for, assuming 20ish characters in the final game (excluding DLC ofc).

I expect Beerus is a shoo-in. So is Piccolo. Krillin is too important to cut. Future Trunks is super-popular. Tien is a coin-flip. Yamcha is unlikely (sorry, buddy, but the way Super has treated you has made it absolutely clear where they stand on this). Chiaotzu isn't even in XV2, you can forget about him. Goten and Trunks could be in... but if they are, it's probably as Gotenks. Vegetto/Vegerot is a definite shoo-in.

I'm going to completely discount movie characters because the roster is likely to be tightly focused for the initial release, and judging by the Z on the logo, mostly tightly focused on Z fighters.

In light of these considerations, my guess for the final roster looks like this:

Goku (Cell Saga)
SSB Goku (Resurrection of F)
Vegeta (Cell Saga)
SSB Vegeta (Resurrection of F)
Gohan (Cell Saga)
Ultimate Gohan (Buu Saga)
Krillin (Namek/Cell Saga)

Future Trunks (Android Saga)

Vegetto/Vegerot

Good reasoning, I dig it. If there's a movie character it'll probably be Cooler, Broly or Bardock.
 
I swear, Nappa better make the cut. He's a pretty defining component of the Saiyan Saga. He was a terror against the Z-Fighters. I want to see how amazing he and his techniques would look in this game.

This is pretty similar to my roster.

The only difference I'd have is that I think Broly and Hercule will be in the game. The SSB versions of Goku and Vegeta will just be easy transformations rather than outright new characters in new slots.

A few things:

I doubt Broly will be absent. At this point I feel like he's a Bandai Namco mandate - as I understand it Broly is perceived as the most popular Dragon Ball character with western audiences by them.

I expect that they'll at least have Goku Black - he would have been at the peak of his popularity when they were defining a roster. Extreme Butoden had Golden Frieza - they'll want to go at least one step ahead, and I think Goku Black's chances are greater than Hit's.

I'd expect Kid Buu over Super Buu, as the latter's movelist was defined by characters he absorbed and I don't really see how they'd represent that in the game.

And I'm not so sure about Saiyan and Namek saga representation, seeing as default Goku in this game is SSJ Goku. I expect Ginyu but I wouldn't be surprised if Nappa was absent. I feel, just based on them being able to get another sword-wielding character into the game, that Dabura is more likely that those two. And I could see Android 16 filling the role of Nappa, but also being more interesting (detachable limbs, for example).

I'd like him too. While I think his niche would clearly be a power fighter and grappler, it would be nest if he could plant Saibamen.

As much as I love Nappa, too, I'm almost thinking he's bound to be cut. I think the Saiyan/Namek sagas are likely going to get highly glossed over, because no playable base forms for Goku, Gohan and Vegeta exist, and they're usually the best indicators of whether or not some type of representation of those eras are going to be in a fighter.

If the likes of Raditz, Nappa and Ginyu still get in the game, even without base form Saiyans to fight, it's likely due to the fact that the game will be telling its own "story" and not try to re-tell manga arcs.
 
Unrelated, I know a bunch of you grew up on this and its what you know, but I cringe so, so hard anytime somebody says Z-Fighters

Maybe if you beat an opponent with barely any life left he could do this pose. Would be kind of weird if you destroy someone barely getting touched and his win pose is falling to the ground exhausted, imo lol.
