10 Minutes of Super Mario Odyssey's New Donk City Demo (E3 2017)

This video kinda killed my entire interest in Odyssey. I can't understand why Nintendo would showcase this level, it's looks terrible after the novelty wears off.

I don't really get where you're coming from; it looks jam-packed with secrets and details, has bespoke, crafted 3D obstacle courses for heathens like me who prefer that kind of thing out of a 3D Mario game, and controlling Mario and getting round the level just looks fun.

The sandy level looks like it offers a more traditional 3D Mario sandbox experience, but it's New Donk City that really won me over, and I was deeply skeptical about a move away from the Galaxy/3D World obstacle course style.

Just caught up on Nintendo and, though they didn't announce/show too much: that was wild?? I... might share some of Jeff's concerns about what the levels are but I think part of that's that they weirdly chose to go do all the little side stuff instead of the... story. With text. And Pauline?? This is wild.

Now time to dig up all the random stuff that was probably talked about/announced on the Treehouse streams instead for some bizarre reason.

METROID PRIME FOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUR

...not by Retro...

But still though that was a hype reveal. I think that would've been a Twilight Princess-level moment if they had done it live on stage though. Miss those days.

Was there ever any rumour of what Retro is allegedly working on? Weird that they would omit announcing something when Metroid was just a title card.

Also hoping Odyssey has a biiit less aliasing in the final version, a bit rough in spots.

Also also, the commentators on the Splatoon tournament stream are maybe the least obnoxious actually useful esports commentary Ive experienced.

I've followed retro rumors closely for awhile now. All anyone would ever say was that what they were working on was not Metroid. We pretty much have no idea. Whatever it is, it's clearly outside of q1 2018 or we would have probably seen it here.

I feel like Nintendo learned from the federation force rumor and realized if they were going to announce a Metroid 2 remake, the existence of a main game had to be known.

Yeah I dunno I need to get my hands on it but in video the inertia is weird and questionable

EDIT: It doesn't help that no-one playing seems to be using any of the standard Mario acrobatics

Has Nintendo ever fucked up Mario physics though? I feel like if you can count on one thing, it's that it'll control well.

They hired the Deus Ex composer for their project, so whatever it is it's probably a more serious title.

well i mean the dude playing never even does single long jump or side flip, and usually is just moving at the slowest possible run speed. it isnt til 8:40 that we see actual 'p speed' type running happening where mario puts his arms out and creates a dust trail behind him. Thinking that faster run state is key to the best momentum feel and hitting the roll move with max speed and control

So one thing about the Spotlight for me is like... I still don't "get" Xenoblade 2? I'll admit I'm partially bitter because I didn't play the original but loooved X and want X2, but still. I love me some anime-ass anime bullshit but this seems a little much even then?? It's a weird stylistic choice because my perception of the first was that despite having "power of friendship" (which I'm actually usually pretty into, to be clear) stuff it didn't lean quite so hard into looking like fairly generic anime? I dunno.

New Donk City looks really bland to me. Every design choice screams PS2 era. Like a misguided video game BA project.

Apparently the Waypoint crew (sans Patrick) saw the entirety of that Nintendo Spotlight prior to today. Wonder if anyone at GB had seen it as well or if they skipped it so they wouldn't spoil the live reactions.

I don't think so. Waypoint have the new.donk.city domain, so Nintendo are probably legally required to give them exclusives.

Abby + Ben is an amazing combo. Shame it won't be a regular thing

I'd be kind of ok if they want to make a Giant Bomb Babies podcast over skype a regular thing once they get back to their respective coasts. They're great, and hit a really unique tone together that neither of them quite gets to when paired with their regular crews.

They definitely have cranked the "Saturday Morning Anime" meter ALL THE WAY UP for Xenoblade 2, but I'm still looking forward to it. I'm someone on the opposite end who loooooved Xenoblade but didn't care for XCX, but if you're someone who loved X, I could see why Xeno2 might not instill a lot of hype.

maybe they can bring back bombing in the am

I never actually ended up listening to that ever (despite really liking Patrick and Alex!) but I'd be doooown for that; they're pretty funny together and it'd be unfortunate to have to wait for GOTY for more stuff with both of them.

Anyway, what's everyone doing as they wait for the night shows?

My sister's apparently never seen Star Wars before, finished watching the original trilogy, and now I'm being livetexted as she watches Episode I. I suddenly realized she knows nothing about it except that it's bad and this is some sort of wonderful, painful to watch gift.

So, I was reading that The Inpatient (one of Supermassive Games' PSVR exclusives) is actually a prequel to Until Dawn, set at Blackwood Sanatorium sixty years before the original game. Also, the same creative team is behind the game (including Larry Fessenden, whose involvement in the first game really intrigued and excited Alex).

Also, speaking of Supermassive, we know The Inpatient and Bravo Team were announced as PSVR exclusives, but a third PS4 exclusive was announced from them during that pre-show thing that I think many people missed. It's called Hidden Agenda and it uses that PlayLink feature. Essentially, it looks similar in tone to Until Dawn, except this time a crowd gets to pick the choices instead of one player with a controller. I hope they don't spread themselves too thin!

Also, it's a shame Ben and Abby will have to go separate ways after this week. They work so well together. Can't wait to see what they'll do for GOTY!
