Well deserved! Never thought that a DB fighting game would be one of the most stand out titles at E3! ASW doing fantastic work and they deserves all the praise they get for making such a awesome looking game. I hope this is really successful for them!

Hope to get Hit, Janemba, 17 and Launch in the future so I can mix/match them alongside Vegeta!

What amazes me most, is the reception, despite 31 years of Dragon Ball video games, most of which garnered below-average reviews, people are not only giving it a chance, but giving it their Game of the Show vote and demanding to see more. That's what's telling me that this game is going to be a success, because the game has to be special to climb that uphill battle and win people over the way it already has since being announced just days ago.

So I know nothing about Dragon Ball with exception to the limited Saltybet knowledge, and this game looks fucking sick, so I'm gonna watch DBZ Kai. 8 episodes in. Vegeta and Nappa just showed up.

I want Broly to be a grappler.

Another one skips OG Dragon Ball. I weep every time D:

If they ever release a Dragon ball DLC pack (because no way they'd ever be in the base roster)

I'd want:

Ox King

I put Ox King over Giran because I want a bit hitbox character but Buu pretty much stole Giran's gimmick attack.

Yeah there's so many great characters, I tried to limit myself to 5 for an hypothetical DLC pack.

Almost now that i think about it I'm not sure how DB characters would fit this game's pursuit homing attack thing, the launcher attack and the ki charge mechanic.

Well atleast king piccolo will fit in

haha nah they'd be super out of place but they were really cool in its time. Good time to remember them but this about DBZ shining.

Are there any DBZ characters that lend themselves to fighting game archetypes?

For example: grapplers (like Zangief?), puppet/summon (like Carl Clover? Rosalina?), random item/luck (Faust or Hsien Ko), damage-over-time (like FANG? Arakune?), etc.

You might wanna rethink that after that IGN interview.

When the guy brought up that it's called "FighterZ" and the fact that Super's new, that there's DB and GT (basically asking if it's Z exclusive), they said while they can't go into details on the character roster, they want all fans of all DB eras to collude on the platform. So it sounds like they're hitting every single series. We'll probably get mostly Z characters but a few from the other series as well.

Just makes me wonder what the roster size will be.

I think it's down to people wanting a 2D DBZ fighting game on consoles which hasn't happened since Boudakai 3 which released...

*googles*

Two thousand and fucking four!! It was that long ago!? No wonder people have been blowing their load over all this that's 13 goddamn years if you've never bothered with the 3D arena fighters AND it's going to be mechanically sound because of ASW's pedigree.

I don't think there's any character that was very defined by grabs and throws but I think Broly could fit the role nicely. He's a very aggressive monster of pure rage, I could see him chucking people around. Hyper DBZ has a puppet/summon archetype with Babidi which works really well, he's a small impish magician that can exert his will upon other. Frost from Super has poison darts for damage over time.

Super DBZ 2006, Burst Limit 2008 and Infinite World 2009 came out since then, but i agree its been too long still.

Broly can easily be adapted into the grappler type.
Gotenks could be the Jack-O of the roster with his ghosts.
Hercule being random luck based with random stuff out of his back pack.
Poison type, I can only think of two characters from from Super and one of those 2 would look like a Frieza clone oh and a Saiberman with it's acid... *shudders*

Nappa could work as a grappler AND a summoner. He's a big buff dude who can plant Saibamen, and they could act like minions who could attack or attach themselves and explode. There's also Broly and Android 16. For DOT two Super characters in mind use poison.

I doubt we'll be getting any complex archetypes though. If Nappa gets in he'll either be a grappler or just a tank.

They realized Broly into a very nice grappler into Zenkai Battle Royale. If he's mandated to be in, I really hope Arc emphasizes that part of his character. Hell, ZBR has some of the most interesting, yet still on-point takes on Dragon Ball character playstyles. They even have Nappa planting Saibamen as "proximity bomb" traps!
