Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight finalized for Aug. 26 - It's on!

Im going to paraphrase Dave Chapelle here and say that these are people who raised themselves up from the streets with their fists, their trade is literally violence. Maybe people shouldnt be using boxers as champions of liberal values

Garbage. A caveat before I hear the "separate the art from the artist" refrain: I love to watch Floyd box and will be tuning in come August 26. The guy is the sweet science's Rembrandt.

That being said, I swear there are more posts in this fucking thread getting mad about people bringing up domestic violence than there are actually bringing up domestic violence.

News flash: if the thread is about Floyd, people are going to criticize him for his history of domestic abuse. As much as I want to talk about boxing, as one of the few people ITT who actually posts in GAF's community boxing thread, these contributions are still fair. Why are people surprised by this? A boxer has a history of abuse - of course people are going to bring it up when discussing their opinions of that boxer's upcoming fight.

I mean, LOL, just LOL, at this shit. No one is asking him to be a "champion of liberal values." They're taking him to task for his abuse. You don't have to be a champion of liberal values to not abuse women. Get the fuck outta here. I know plenty of dudes that came up hard and none put hands on their wives/girlfriends. You don't get an excuse for that. None of my boys would. Floyd don't either.

I hope McGregor doesnt get hut too badly. I really can't believe this fight got sanctioned but I know money talks and that is all that matters.

Conor is currently North of 175lbs

I think he's probably the biggest / heaviest fighter Floyd has ever faced

Taller and longer reach than either Canelo or Gatti

Conor is taking a beating for a paycheck and everyone knows it.

To be fair he isn't Conor's sparring partner now. They were sparring a year or so ago. Also, he's definitely got his own agenda. He's trying to get a fight on the undercard...so I get the feeling he's making noise to try and build up some interest/attention.

Conor's team say that it wasn't a serious spar - though of course they would say that.

Strangest thing is that the video even exists and that it got out the way it did - Conor's team asked for it to be released, not realising he looked like complete shit in it.

I'll spare us the trouble of watching every interview with former or current boxing/MMA people. It's a simple formula:

Boxing guys say McGregor has no chance.

MMA guys say McGregor has no chance.

MMA guys with a financial interest in the fight say McGregor has a (puncher's) chance.

Without fail, every time.

Where did I say Conor will win? He's gonna lose I've said that openly many times.

I'm just saying I'm pretty sure Conor will be the biggest fighter Floyd has fought in regards to size

He won't get hurt. He'll be severely outclassed and will be made to look like a fool, but he'll come through it fine physically.

No chance he gets hurt. Power isn't Floyd's thing. Isn't he receiving anti-inflammatory shots into his hands before his fights because his hands are in such rough shape?

Power isn't the only way to hurt someone. Timing beats speed, precision beats power.

I'd be surprised if Conor goes the distance. He's a lower volume fighter than either of the boxers that gave Floyd trouble in the early rounds and fights in a style that's much easier for Floyd to handle.

He'll get picked apart, worn down and stopped.

If this fight happens under MMA rules, who do you think will win?

Well, I don't think too many people would bet against Conor in that case. I mean...I would LOVE to see that; Mayweather getting his ass kicked in the Octagon. But, I do not believe we'll ever see that happen. He has enough money that he doesn't ever need to attempt something like that.

Conor and Floyd are working together to create a trilogy. People are expecting a circus event, just for fun. Floyd will come out not taking Conor seriously. Showboating till he gets caught and KO'd (remember Silva vs Weidman?). This sets up a rematch where Floyd schools Conor and the record is 1-1. Last fight valued at $500 million. A win win for both guys. Book it.

Floyd's ego is big enough that he would never stage a loss, even if it would make him more money than he's ever made in his whole career. His boxing career and legacy means more to him than that.

I doubt Floyd is going to trade in a perfect record for more money he doesn't need.

Fuck you guys. I'm officially on the McGregor fantasy hype train. Conor by KO in rounds 1-3. 😞
it's nice to want things

Conor is doing this just for the cash. He's practicing rn so he doesn't get embarrassed. He's an incredibly savy and smart dude, all I can say is respect. He'll do his trilogy fight after he loses and if he wins that, he retires from UFC and can do whatever the fuck he wants with the money and fame he'll have. Might stay for 1-2 more fights if he loses the trilogy though.

So what's the smart way to hedge the bet? Are there odds yet? I'm not really familiar on how this stuff works.

Everything above 1.10 (-1000 1/10) for mayweather is insane. But bookies know casual bettors will put their money on McGregor (especially in the UK), so last I checked it was about 1.15-5
