Dragon Ball FighterZ - Characters, Specials, and Stages Discussion

Since the Devs confirmed there will be characters from all generations, I don't see why so many people are panicking that Super won't be represented. It will.

On that note, Goku has one of the most boring/vanilla movesets in the series yet Blue is expected to be a separate character. I honestly wouldn't rule out anything if that's the case (though SSJ4 representation should, IMO, be Gogeta)

I'd honestly just skip GT. That said, you can watch Super on Crunchyroll, FunimationNow, or Toonami (on Saturday nights).
How many episodes have been released so far? If it's 60+ then it's still a commitment I'm not sure I can afford.

We're 96 episodes in, but you can skip to Episode 28 if you watch Battle of Gods & Resurrection F (both movies), seeing as most of the first 27 episodes are movie recaps (with some minor changes).

95-ish

first 26 or so episodes are recaps of the last two movies but have minor changes

Is it better to watch the movies, watch the episodes, or both. Although I feel i'd be burned out watching mostly the same thing between 2 movies and 26 episodes.

Its faster to just watch the movies. The only changes in it are really irrelevant. It saves you 27/ 20 minute episodes.

Point taken, as long as nothing is lost by skipping the episodes.

Well they had some nice slice of life episodes in between "the movies" retelling (15-18 I believe ?) and there were some differences in the story / character reactions.

But for anybody trying to catch up, I think you're better off just watching the movies and starting at episode 28.

Whatever you do, do not watch Super's version of FnF.

But that arc has
Ginyu, a more sadistic Freeza and a much better fight between Vegeta and Freeza.
It's automatically superior because of that.

It's fine to enjoy those details over the movie, but ask yourself, for newcomers, is it worth having to watch what is literally the death of art represented by episodes 23 - 26 ?

pls no

Sorry, man. But that bad animation isn't enough to make up for the few perks Super's version offers.

Plus, I completely forgot Super's version of BoG excised even a mention of Tarble. This series is just not kind to brothers of Goku or Vegeta...

The sad part is that the only reason they want people to forget about Tarble is because they recycled everything about him to make Cabba. *_*

They also completely ruined the Pilaf Gang in Super. They were hilarious in the movies.

First screenshot looks like something out of the Rugrats

Second screenshots looks like something out of a badass expensive OVA like Saint Seiya: Lost Canvas or something

Wait, really? Why? Is that special not canon anymore?

But that was like the only Launch appearance post-Dragon Ball D:

No word on it. They did keep Goku's farmer clothing and radishes which originated in that same special though.

But that special was always kind of odd, since it was published directly by Shueisha (using just "Dragonball" as the title, rather than Z), even though it was still Toei animated. I don't think it even got licensed anywhere outside of Japan.

It was licensed in Europe recently.

My favorite artstyle is probably what was used during the Sayain saga. Looked like a transition between Dragon Ball and how Z turned out but I really liked it.

That guy is just a gag character from a one-off OVA who is being retconned in favor of U6 Saiyans.

Cabba even kind of looks like him.

And even though Cabba has ripped his shtick, I still like Tarble better. If nothing else, he's now apparently the ONLY Saiyan left with a tail. Even if his fighting abilities are nothing special, and he may never turn into a SSJ, that's what made him more unique than the "Bargain Sale" going on currently. At least in my opinion.

I never liked Tarble. He didn't really do anything of note in his special, and the concept of a brother for Vegeta who looks much younger than Goku is basically a walking plot hole for what should be obvious reasons.

Why the hell was the art so bad early on in Super? I was so busy that I didn't even get time to watch those episodes, I jumped back on midway in the first tournament arc and I noticed that the art started to get better mid-way in the Future Trunks Arc.

I refuse to believe this is real until i see it on toonami. Yall are messin with me.

The english dub has the blu ray corrections, so the show as it airs on Toonami will look overall better art wise, but some jank is definitely still there. Especially in the animation department since afaik they don't improve animation per se, just art.

I see.... Weird for it to get a mention in the movie but not in the anime. And yeah I don't think the movie aired here in LA. Watching all these characters together once again after so much time was pretty awesome when it aired! (Or more like, when I watched it online lol)

The show began with basically no preproduction

The sickest thing that this game could do is if you have a team of Vegeta, Goku and Buu, fuse into Vegetto, then Buu turns you into a coffee jawbreaker as a OHKO. This will not happen and is too complex, but it'd be sick.
