John McCain to return to the United States Senate Tomorrow for Healthcare Vote

What I don't quite get is -- do these folks not all believe in God?

From that perspective, what signal could he possibly be sending you right now about healthcare, McCain?

It's a procedural thing. All spending bills (or really, bills that spend money) must originate in the House. For the Senate to make changes to a House bill, they must first open debate on said bill, and only THEN make the alterations. So they're nominally voting on the AHCA, even though they'll just immediately alter the text to the BCRA.

So they’ll change it to the bill that just went down in flames? The same bill that the Senate parlimentarian ruled can’t be passed via reconciliation? Why do they think it’ll work this time?

This story left out the best part: John Cornyn literally offered to ride his RV all the way over to Phoenix just to pick up McCain and bring him back to DC in the span of 4 days.

Closer to 5, assuming he'd have to stop and rest. But I guess they're flying him out, which miiiiiiiight kill him considering he just had a craniotomy.

So they'll change it to the bill that just went down in flames? The same bill that the Senate parlimentarian ruled can't be passed via reconciliation? Why do they think it'll work this time?

Sort of the 5 million dollar question, tbh. All signs point to it NOT working. Best guess is McConnell's belief that when faced with the do or die choice of being the Vote that Killed Repeal, the requisite number of Senators will crumble. It's what happened in the House.

what are the yays and undecided?

Is it a close vote? I'm nervous.

no

which is partly why this is really dumb. He's risking his life for a procedure vote that doesn't have enough votes to pass, let alone have enough votes for the actual bill.

So they'll change it to the bill that just went down in flames? The same bill that the Senate parlimentarian ruled can't be passed via reconciliation? Why do they think it'll work this time?

*shrug*

McConnell the master strategist knows best I guess

Between Paul Ryan mentioning he dreamed of culling the lower class while standing around at keggers and John McCain fighting off the effects of a brain tumor to cross the country and vote in favor of this thing I'm starting to wonder if being a republican just means you have an undiagnosed superpower that consists of hating the poor so much that you are able to tune out all physical and environmental distractions from acting on that.

um

what the fuck happens if he passes away on the flight

John McCain is the embodiment of that old Patton Oswalt joke:

"In the obituaries, no one ever dies of cancer. People always give in after a valiant battle with cancer, or they throw in the towel after a courageous fight, which, statistically, can't be possible. There had to have been a couple of cowardly ordeals in there. 'Bob Smith died today after a craven cowardly ordeal with cancer, during which he wished the disease on his family and friends.'"

It would bring me so much joy if he did all this and it gets shot down anyway. Risk your health just to fuck over millions. Just retire already. It's like the desire to be shitty to others gives them life.

Nah, they're just unaware that by being a part of the modern GOP, they're a greater threat to Americans than ISIS ever could be.

B-but my freedoms and free markets.

The fact that they are trying to force a vote so hard immediately that they need to pull McCain back to the Senate to vote worries me.

Wasn't he supposed to be taking 2 weeks for recovery from his surgery even before they realized he had cancer? This is crazy.

Don’t want your end-of-life being made political? Don’t choose a career in politics.

There’s nothing wrong with saying “fuck McCain” right now.

Even if he did vote against and then all the moderates come pouring out of the woodwork shouting how great he is, it still doesn't ignore the other horrible shit John McCain did, this yes vote will be a capstone on a lifetime of monstrous decisions
