John McCain to return to the United States Senate Tomorrow for Healthcare Vote

I wonder if he shook hands with other patients while at the hospital. You know, those photos where people pose with a politician they meet in public. Bet some of those were cancer patients. I bet they never knew they were meeting with the man that was going to kill them.

Youre right, clearly damning this particular guy will somehow undue this by giving up your own basic decency.

McCain involving himself changes nothing one way or the other. We lost the election, one way or the other they will pass some sort of law eventually which cuts insurance subsidies for the poor. Our only chance to block that from happening was the election.

The fuck are you on about? The vote is literally either passing by a hair or failing by one. McCain involving himself or not changes quite a bit.

So we lost an election and that means fuck millions of people? They should just lose their healthcare? People who fell for what Trump actually said he wanted to do for healthcare should just get fucked and we get to accept whatever the GOP wants because... the election? This is fucking silly. Tons of republican senators represent states that would get fucked by this. Trump himself did not run on this. Winning doesn't give you license to run over the fucking country and fuck it up the ass with a metaphorical rake. We shouldn't just shrug and say oh well that's that. Democracy shouldn't just be a 4 year thing or a 2 year thing or even a 1 year thing. It's every fucking day and if assholes like McCain want to vote for bullshit that fucks over their constituents then they should feel the full wrath and ire of those constituents they are literally killing.

And if I'm giving up my basic decency by defending millions of people's right to healthcare over this old fucking asshole's right to vote it away then fuck decency.

McCain is the grim reaper.

Okay, to be clear, the vote tomorrow isn't for an actual passing of a bill, right? I'm getting confused because a lot of you are talking about passing a bill. This is to debate and amend the bill, right? Are they also voting on the bill that same day.

Forget wishing death, are the GoP actually risking the life of McCain here? What happens if he dies, even a week from now. Is leaving the hospital and traveling a good idea for him? Shit's mad stressful on the aged.

Any sympathy I had just went right out the window. I don't think they'll actually get a bill passed but if they do that will be the legacy he leaves behind.

An 80-year-old man who just had brain surgery. I bet he looks great! He's going to cut such an inspiring figure in the fight to deny people health care.

That's why you listen to me, not them.

That bill is not dead.
Trump will not get impeached.
Trump will not get removed.
Trump will not resign.

You're posting on GAF, you're part of GAF. But as others have said, this isn't the same. That vote was dead, this is something else entirely

Tomorrow is to move forward with a debate on the bill.

Some bill

Nobody knows what bill. Not even those voting to move forward.

They won't vote on the actual bill tomorrow, since most senators want an amendment process. Also McConnell has to figure out what he wants to do about the parliamentary saying his bill needs 60 votes.

Winning doesn't give you license to run over the fucking country and fuck it up the ass with a metaphorical rake.

Emotions aside, it absolutely 100% does. That is what happens with authority, the people in charge do what they want and we grant them the power to do that.

This is rather concerning. They either already have the votes (with him present) to proceed on the healthcare bill. Or they're hoping to swindle/bully the maybe/not voters into voting yes because this American Hero is sacrificing his own recovery to Make America Great etc by being present for these votes. So you better vote yes or be labeled traitor.

Whatever the reason the fact they are making him fly in (or him being willing) just amazes me how low the GOP keep going after already hitting rock bottom; like mantle bottom or magma bottom. I feel there is no level they won't sink to now; and that's terrifying. Eventually if they don't succeed this time we'll get to the point where they'll hold kids hostage at gunpoint and make the Dems vote for their healthcare bill.

Don't underestimate how impatient these fucks are, though. They might gun for it blindly.

I'd love to see you explain MTP, amendment votes, the Byrd rule, and the parliamentarian's rules. But you can't, because you're an ignorant concern troll.

Didn't McCain already tell McConnell that he's voting for Repeal?

That's why they delayed the vote in the first place.

Forget about McCain, folks. You need to hope those few GoP Senators who are against Repeal without Replacement are STILL voting No.

If they flipped, then it's all over for the ACA and any semblance of affordable, universal healthcare.

While it is very possible they have the votes, they've also been vocal in saying they just want to get close enough to ratchet up pressure on the 'No' votes. No need to fly McCain in for that though, everyone knows he is a yes

Okay, thank you for clearing this up

Uh, no, in a democratic society that is not how it's supposed to work at all. One side can be weighted, but you're still supposed to come together to represent as many people as possible. What you just described is authoritionism

Terminally ill man votes to strip others of lifesaving insurance, McCain can get fucked.

Contrast it with Ted Kennedy, who spent his last days working on the ACA and died before he could see it passed, but ensuring healthcare for millions, mostly women and children.

Remember too that there's also a push among the GOP to exempt themselves from the "healthcare" they want to push on every other American citizen. McCain literally gets to vote to push this thing forward and return to his hospital bed if he wishes, comforted by the fact he won't have to pay nearly the same price as literally everyone else he shares the hospital with.

lol it's mccain he's a free yes vote for anything republican

For a guy I've at least generally respected over the years for his service (even if not agreeing with him on most things), I really don't know how to feel about this. It's a man who's a certifiable war hero and long-time senator literally being okay with risking death for a chance to take health care away from potentially tens of millions of poor people. Worse, it'll probably be his last action in the Senate other than perhaps a vote on the final bill, which would be even more disgustingly shameful.

Fuck it. Nope. This is too far. Resign officially and have the governor of Arizona ship out his temporary replacement if you need the vote that desperately. I dislike having to admit I'm rooting against a man with potentially terminal brain cancer. Just stay home. Please.

I agree the GOP should NOT be pushing for this, at all. They should tell him, stay home, please get better John. You know, be decent human beings lol.

But, if he does get ill or worse, in the end it's his own doing.

You're supposed to, you don't have too.

That'd be the dream wouldn't it? Just give no fucks and go in on the president? Not going to happen, but a man can dream.

Even before the cancer, he had to have been keenly aware he was approaching the end of his life and career. If he was going to "come to Jesus" as a result of his impending mortality, it would have happened already.

He is the putrid coward he's allowed himself to become. His pursuit of power mortgaged whatever decency and honor he had, and left him this bitter, wasted shell.

The abortion issue is definitely going to be interesting, and something that everyone's been kind of sleeping on in the discussion about the bill.

Keep feeding yourself bullshit.

I've heard similar shit before:

"Explain demographics, Trump's approval, electoral college, checks and balances, polling, Brexit being totally different."

Emotions aside, it absolutely 100% does. That is what happens with authority, the people in charge do what they want and we grant them the power to do that.

No, it really doesn't. You still should have to answer to your voters. There should (theoretically) be a fear that you'll get fucked next election or impeached or affected in some way. That's democracy. The republicans have insulated themselves from some of these effects with gerrymandering, but there should be more there. Democracy doesn't give you power to do whatever the hell you want and it never has. They should stick close to the will of the voter or feel the heat.
