Nope. In the Chicago one at least, my friend picked up mine as well as his and gave him no issues. Just sent a screenshot of the QR code to my friend and he showed that.

I can confirm all you need is the IR code. I don't live in Chicago and had my brother in law pick it up with the code it gave me.
