Neymar looks Set to Smash World Record Signing for PSG for £197 million ($253m)

Man it's still ridiculous that the club gets that ridiculous sum of money while Neymar's actually yearly salary is lower than Allen Crabbe.

That's a lot of money but at the same time he's in his prime and going to...PSG.

And honestly I don't see Neymar's presence suddenly making that league desirable, but I'm completely fine with being proven wrong.

It's disappointing that players almost seem scared of coming to the PL, because there's that risk.

Fuck, now I'm really hyped for the football to start again.

Agreed. Going cold turkey with no world cup or European tournament over the summer was hard but it's nearly at an end.

No premier league = 0 fucks given.

No footballer is worth this money. He could Falcao himself at any point.

Falcao is doing great though?

21 goals in 29 matches last season in ligue 1 and 7 goals in 10 matches in the Champions League.

Key difference is they were competitive before spending more than some european countries for defence

Lol that's not at all the case for the Real Madrid.

How many years did they end up spending insane amount of money for no return?

Seems like a bizarre choice. Where does PSG get all this money from?

Apparently PSG are getting him for free with Qatar is paying Neymar €300m to be the face of the WC and he's using that to pay his release.

French League is the 4th best league in europe at best and i‘d take Real, Barca, Juve or Bayern over any PL team or PSG.

Just like City or China the only reason they’re somewhat successful is because they spend insane amount of money to be anywhere close to competitive

I would compare it to Bundesliga. In Europe you get Bayern always at the top and once every 3-4 years a Dortmund team that ends up selling all the players to Bayern. PSG has built a good team even before Neymar. If they keep bringing money on the table they could be constantly among the top 10 in Europe with Monaco and Lyon popping up from time to time.

PSG actually makes sense for Neymar because he'd be a huge fish in a tiny pond. Unlike the Premier league there's no danger that he'd be outshone.

Even if, worst case scenario, they don't win the league this year he is still undoubtedly the biggest brand in French football which translates to emerging markets.
Uh, Ibrahimovic?

Nah. If I had to put cold, hard cash on it I'd say Sanchez was at Manchester City by the end of the transfer window.

I think that's where he'll end up next season, I just can't see it happening right now. To be fair though I thought the club wouldn't be stupid enough to sell RVP to United as well and gift them the title and we know how that turned out.

Real have been outspending everyone on the planet for 17 years with the galacticos. Barca bought Neymar and Suarez for £70 Million plus each and literally buy the best talent from lower teams in La Liga so nobody can catch up. To name a few... Alba, Mathieu, Rakitic, Turan, Vidal, Gomes, Alcacer.

The Spanish giants are just as bad for spending silly money as the English clubs, PSG and China.

I've stayed out of the loop since champions league wrapped up, but besides money, why is Neymar going to play in a pointlessness league? It's not for champions league play, it's not for the competition, with all his money bullshit already he's not hurting for money. I don't get it.

Is there ever a point where a footballer gets free agency?

When his contract expires but it rarely ever happens because the club will normally sell well before that if they don't think he will sign a new one or if they can't afford new terms. So the transfer fee normally reflects other factors like the length remaining on the current contract and the player's likelihood to sign a new contract as well as the quality of the player (not to mention agent's fees). Also in Spain all contracts have a fixed buy out clause.

Why does there have to be something other than money when someone is making employment decisions?

He wants to get paid shit loads while being the main player and playing with his friends, PSG also have a good chance of winning the CL.

Thank you, city is mostly hated because of the oil money, because only certain popular teams are allowed to spend money so it pisses off some people that a team that was an easy win is now competitive.

Qatar

According to UEFA Coefficient rating they are actually the 5th best league a few years ago Russian and Portuguese league was ahead of them. Neymar going there is still crazy but he definitely look even better there terrorizing those lower league French teams. Also PSG is clearly going to run away with the league this year after Monaco got cleaned out.

how is the french league any different than the spanish one. 2 or 3 good clubs a few decent ones and the rest is trash. It's at least more watchable than the train wreck the PL has become.

Yep. This is the case with pretty much all the leagues in Europe.

Can someone explain this to me because I've never understood it: Barcelona is the one who gets the $253 million, right? Not the player? Barcelona didn't make Neymar a great player, he already was one, why do they get the huge windfall from it?

Why is this a thing? From a quick Google, Neymar's actual salary is only 10 million Euro, so about 5% of his transfer fee.

Is there ever a point where a footballer gets free agency?

They get the fee because he's under contract to Barcelona and Barcelona own his registration to play football in professional leagues sanctioned by UEFA. PSG are paying for that registration to be transferred to them.

You're a free agent if your contract expires. Man Utd paid no transfer fee for Ibrahimovic last summer for example.

"lol nah"

Fucking footballers, bunch of assholes.

The french league isn't that much worse than the spanish one. 2 or 3 good clubs a few decent ones and the rest is trash. It's at least more watchable than the train wreck the PL has become.

Train wreck?

At least the Premier League is somewhat competitive and routinely pulls off shock results on any given weekend.

There's still a huge gap between bigger and smaller clubs, but at least there's significantly more teams who can challenge for a title on paper.

PSG have a fantastic team what planet are some you living on? Mopped the floor with barca last season. Oh and that second leg was full of bullshit decisions.

They are capable of challenging for the champions league easily, even more so with neymar.

Not really.

If he joined Man Utd his shirt sales would have been off the roof and he would be the biggest player in the league. He'd be the best too in my opinion. Sanchez tears up the premier league and he was half decent at Barca. Whilst Neymar has been brilliant for them.

lol, what's the equivalent of Leicester in the French league and when will they win the title?

Become champions with PSG, seems easy.

Champions League LOL

And yet this past season Monaco won the league, PSG could only get the cups.

The player gets a percentage of that money, don't quote me on this but I think it's 12%, Barcelona gets the money because they own the "federative rights"(I think that's what called) to have the player on their squad. A player becomes a free agent when the contract with the club who has said right ends.

Neymar no doubt is legit good, one of the best but not $222 million good... Barca could do a lot better with another world class CB, FW and possibly AMF

lol, what's the equivalent of Leicester in the French league and when will they win the title?

Sure because Leicester happening that one time is going to change the fact that in the last twenty years there's been 5 different Premier league winners.

In the same time frame there's been 9 in the French league.

Man it's still ridiculous that the club gets that ridiculous sum of money while Neymar's actually yearly salary is lower than Allen Crabbe.

He supposedly is gonna get a 36 million signing fee with PSG, and is also rumored that he is delaying his signing until Barcelona pays him a 26 million bonus they owe him for his last renewal.

Also PSG will probably pay him a crazy salary

lol, what's the equivalent of Leicester in the French league and when will they win the title?

While 47 clubs have competed since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, only six have won the title: Manchester United (13), Chelsea (5), Arsenal (3), Manchester City (2), Blackburn Rovers (1) and Leicester City (1). The current champions are Chelsea, who secured the 2016–17 title in early May 2017.

Blackburn won it in 95...

But the lack of equality wasn't even my point. PL lost a lot of what made it so great and popular 10 years ago. Maybe it's the high ticket prices keeping the real fans away, maybe it's the influx of all those overpaid foreign players..I can't really tell tbh. It's just way less fun than it used to be. The lower leagues still are entertaining, so it's all good.
