As Jon himself said, the punishment for treason is death. He brought it up to Sansa and the Northern lords in the first episode, and he told Theon he'd kill him right then and there if it wasn't for what he did for Sansa.
Oath breaking is an automatic death sentence. She gave them an option which she didn't have to give. Are people made she had Drogon do the execution? It was shown last episode that a direct blast from Drogon turns men into ash within seconds. Compare that to Jon's hanging execution and it's actually a mercy kill. Even Ned executed an oath breaker and he never gave him the option to reaffirm his vows and go back to the wall. What the fuck is Tarly even talking about in regards to Cersie? Fucker you broke faith with the house whose lord were oath bound to serve, obey, protect, and avenge. She gave them a choice, and even when Tyrion suggested the Black, Tarly refused the idea of it.
