I have one of the old controllers. This means that for me the adapter will always be superior to bluetooth. Even if I buy a second controller eventually, the adapter will allow me to use both controllers instead of the new one only.

So do I need one of these dongles to play more than 1 player games on PC. I have been interested in getting a couple of XB1 controllers for my PC for a while now. I was using DS4s just over bluetooth but I don't like swapping/pairing them between PC and PS4 constantly.
I'm still using this thing that looks like an old wired mouse.
It's plugged into the usb port on the back of my monitor and double sided taped onto the back of the screen out of the way.
Am I missing anything by ignoring this new one besides smaller size if I only ever use 1 gamepad? Works fine with my elite.

OMG! I was today complaining about how massive the dongle is for the Xo controller to my brother. It's attached to my laptop and it's quite massive and gets quite warm too. I wish it was at the size of that mouse dongle though. It's still a bit too big even in it's new form.

huh? this does not work with any X1 controller, the Elite only connect via usb or wireless dongle,but not the X360 one.
You mean v3? v3 is the one that comes with Bluetooth abilities,v2 is the one with 3.5 audio jack and better LB and RB.
also you can just connect one controller via Bluetooth peer Bluetooth adapter.

I've been using the original wireless adapter for 360 controllers. I suppose it is a little on the bigger side but I never see it anyway; plus never had an issue.
Good to see that if it ever does break though I will have a new option.

No, this adapter is a new Xbone controller adapter. 360 adapters are entirely different.

... I think you're actually connected to your PC via Bluetooth. One controllers do not even have the right radio to talk to 360 dongles.
They said they have an Elite, it doesn't have Bluetooth.

If you're willing to drop $25 on this dongle, that's almost halfway to a better controller already...
Why not just buy the redesigned controller?

The Elite controller predates the bluetooth radio update on standard controllers. I don't think they've ever updated Elites; not even for the Gears 4 special edition one.
I don't think some people in this thread realize the limitations of the bluetooth connectivity in comparison to the proprietary dongle.
It's nice to have, but if you actually want to reliably and wirelessly use multiple xbone controllers on your desktop pc, you are better of getting the wireless dongle.

Bluetooth has always sucked for me. Ive tried mice, keyboards, phone connections (mics) whatever. I just have not had luck with bluetooth at all.
I hope that release date is just a place holder or I might just have to cave and pick up the bigger version.

That date was on there when the pre-order button was actually live. Then the button was grayed out. The adapter, per MS, was supposed to be out on the 8th. But then everything changed. The controllers are being released on a staggered schedule and not until September now.
MS is now saying that the new adapter was never supposed to come out in the US on August 8.
Meanwhile, Japan will get the adapter on August 24, and Australia and New Zealand get it in September.

The protocol also (more recently) was pushed as a connectivity solution for such things as wireless headsets, etc that would work with the xbox...so that 8 limit can be eaten up by those too

1. Which Xbox One Controller do I need for that (I don't care about color)? (Also - an amazon link to one would help immensely.)
2. And do I need to get some sort of USB receiver for my PC too to get it to work with wirelessly? Or can the controller and the PC connect to each other right out of the box? I only need 1 controller and I only need to connect 1 controller to my PC. But if the latest-greatest USB dongle covers everything for the same price, should I just go with that?(My PC has both a Bluetooth and WIFI transmitter/receiver already, btw) (Again, if I do need one, an Amazon link to one would help immensely.)
3. Can I use any regular batteries in it? Or do I have to use some sort of Microsoft-proprietary battery pack?
