Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Gameplay/Pre-Launch Discussion Thread

There is one thing im really worried about, dunno if someone can help me verify.

Is there any confirmation of there being an option for classic MVC styled dynamic music (AKA, when a character is killed, music theme of entering character kicks in) yet?

Im really REALLY not liking this "player 2's first character theme plays the entire match unless someone activates an infinity storm".

I certainly hope we'll get that option. I don't like the way it's handled in MVCI.

I really loved how MvC3 had an option for classic character themes or more cinematic stage themes.

The way MvCI is doing it is a mistake.

Hence why we're thinking that it was Marvel's call. Given that the Capcom side kept their classic themes, I'm sure Capcom would bring the classic Marvel themes back if they could.

Ignoring the fact that Marvel's themes are changed, the way the BGM is handled is still bad.

The 2P has their theme play the entire time until someone activates an Infinity Storm. So even if you KO the 2P character, their theme continues to play. It's dumb.

Hopefully a day 1 patch can fix this.

Yeah, we were all understandably mad about Ultimate at first but in retrospect it was a good deal.

Well yeah early adopters really take it up the rear in these fighting games from what I've been observing. I know I got taken on MKX/IJ1/IJ2/SFV. Finally gotten wise and getting this game on the cheap.

They need to find ways to reward their loyal fans. This is ofc not a unique problem to fighting game but I want to point out MOBAs and f2p games dont have this issue since vets accumulate good stuff. But fighting games come really bare bones on avg so they dont give out anything at all.

But you do get to take a poop on new players online so of course hardcore online players we all benefit. But Casual gamer? They should just wait for the sale unless they're gonna buy for single player and then trade it back for a small loss

tl;dr- is a good idea to wait for Ultimate edition unless you play online or go pro. Only then I'd be an early adopter for the sake of being competitive

[edit] To be fair, in sfv/ij2 in both of those games you accumulate free characters and gear. So its a little less of an issue. So my complaint not really applicable to those titles I admit

No crossplay for this game is the worst. No excuse for at least not having PS4->PC.

Blame Sony. They only allow PC-PS4 crossplay on their first party games. Sony's been notoriously shitty about the possibility of crossplay for the past couple years now, while Nintendo/MS are all for it.

I didn't notice the Marvel characters' themes were changed. In fact, is everyone's themes available on the game's website? Too lazy to check.

The only theme I've distinctly heard through gameplay vids was Dante's theme, and it sounded really bad...

It's by design, so unless they already have the option (which could happen, but I don't think so), or there's enough outcry (which there won't be) don't expect that to be patched in.

There is no way to listen to anyone's themes except watching gameplay.

in case someone was holding out hope for a last minute reveal:

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite – We have for you the crossover of the century in this all-star attraction at the Capcom booth. With all 30 characters and six Infinity Stones playable, you can craft the team of your dreams! Also, look out for an amazing statue of the game’s super villain, Ultron Sigma, sitting majestically on his throne. It’s a photo opp you don’t want to miss.

I seriously doubt anyone would after the press release Capcom released.

With less of a focus on flying zoners, and with a couple new moves, I thought Chris was looking good for Infinite but ever since we started seeing more "high level" play, Chris looks like he'll be overwhelmed quite easily...

Dahbomb, or anyone else with theory crafting skills, do you think Chris is looking good or will it be like Marvel 3 where he can be played at a high level but will be a relatively poor choice in the long run?

I just wanna know if I'll still be able to Bring The Pain.

Yeah, its kinda disheartening for Chris to see the crazy stuff so far. Especially since he didn't get anything to help with air control (unless he can shoot his gun upwards on the ground and in the air that has been found?).

His vertically problem in MVC3/UMVC3 was sort of helped with good assists like dante, doom, strider, akuma and hulk (hey it worked for me :P). I think the same would work here with tags and gems (Power gem is a good fit for him).

Going to need a lot of experimentation and effort to fit him into high level play. Just as with MVC3/UMVC3.

Even with the 30 character confirmation, I still want to know if Ultron-Sigma is just going to not be playable. He seemed to function a lot like a normal character in the demo.

Wow, this has some of the best gameplay I've seen yet. The potential for this game's gameplay is fucking explosive.

its from Max's stream last week, go watch it because Max brings me life everytime he says "look at this crazy horseshit"

actually twitch seems to be down, ill link it later I guess /shrug

Also, this latest video Max uploaded to youube is actually... in 4K :o

It might not be. I've seen other builds with more selectable stages than the one I played.

people are assuming they just werent unlocked when you played it, like its a story mode thing or something.

The ones with 12 stages? I'm pretty sure that was also the final build, only with more stuff unlocked, given that the footage with the other 2 stages had more than 2 colours unlocked for some characters. Other people probably cleared arcade and advanced through the story in those files, unlocking the colours and those two stages.

Of course, I might be wrong. Who knows?

dude you keep saying it had more colors unlocked but no it didnt. It has 2 colors, the other 2 are grayed out, we havent seen anyone use colors 3 and 4. Max's footage has 4 colors on screen aswell.

Only for like one character where the 3rd colour wasn't greyed out. Gimmie a bit to find the footage again.

EDIT:
Here we go: Compare Thanos' colours with Spider-Man immediately after. Spider-Man has 3 colours unlocked, while the rest have only two. Someone probably cleared Arcade as Spider-Man.

FURTHER EDIT:

We haven't actually seen that spider colour tho, like highlighted right? Yellow blue is a weird combo, what could it be?

It's a really odd choice, can't think of what it could be for the life of me.

Colours are also one of those things where I feel, especially when there's only 4, you should just stick to the most popular alternative schemes for a character than try to be bold or obscure about things.

Fun fact: When MvC3 had a Venom color for Spider-Man, they bothered to change the spider design on the front as opposed to just recolouring what they already had. This was also done for every other alt colour, they all had different designs. For MvC:I, Venom is literally just a colour swap. It's small, but this is one of those things we took for granted at the time. MvC3 forever the GOAT.

If I had to make a raw guess then I would say that Chris is definitely among the weaker portion of the roster. Still has largely similar issues only unlike before he is not going to kill off of any hit which is how he scummy out a lot of wins (other character got close, he did ground throw and they died). Flamethrower can't chip, less grenade options and still can't deal with super jumpers. One of his grenades does have a better angle for jumpers but it's not enough.

Prone into Shoulder Tackle is a decent tool as well.

patches are to fix bugs, not to change things two random neogaf users dont like.

no offense :p

Im sure it will bother several long time fans of the franchise if there is no option for it.

You know, it's like how MVC3 had the option for stage music for both iterations, but classic character theme switching was the default.

I don't think they care about bothering long time fans of the franchise.

Chris needed a lot of stuff.

He needs an actual get off me type move. Either that or one his punches need to be armored or something because his punches having been nothing more than combo tools. You can probably give him the Power stone for this.

He needed better recovery and start up on his regular guesses. A lot of the times you would jump and do machine gun and land before completing the animation.

He needed up/forward angle on gun shots and in the air he needed a straight forward angle to deal with jumpers and fliers. Deadpool is a good example of the type of gun angles you need in these games (and he is a way better character than Chris despite doing less damage). Right now he has to rely on Reality stone to cover his weak spots in zoning.

So he basically needs two stones at one time to function, 3 if you include Time stone for the dash evasion which he also desperately needs.
