Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Gameplay/Pre-Launch Discussion Thread

It'll get dinged for its story mode (but to be honest, that shit is real difficult to get right), presentation, and a few other things, but not enough to sink it. I'm thinking 7/10s and 8/10s across the board, with fighting game minded places giving it possible 9/10s, if not more on the rare side.
I'm not sure if it'll get dinged for the Story Mode, especially when the critics enjoyed T7's story (which a good chunk of the community wasn't fond of to begin with). You are right about the presentation though, & I generally agree on the likely 7-8/10 average score (I'm leaning towards 8 right now, unless shit hits the fan on Day 1).

Skull Girls officially sold 1 million copies on Steam

Now the question is... can Marvel Infinite sell a million on Steam before Capcom loses the Marvel license and the game is de-listed on all digital stores O_O
Unless they offer the game for $1 later down the road, I doubt it.

I don't see casual players getting much value out of the game outside of the initial story mode. They beat it after 3 hours and return the game when they realize that they will get their shit pushed in online.

This applies to every fighting game. At least Marvel actually has a story mode this time around.

To be fair, Skullgirls has been on Steam for ages and it's had plenty of big sales.

No way in hell is Infinite selling 1M on Steam though.

The perfect marvel game should have followed in Skullsgirls footsteps. Custom assists and ratio system would have allowed for greater diversity.

Does that make skull girls the highest selling fighter on steam? How did mkx do?

Believe it's over 1 million as well.

I think MKX' terrible port killed that pretty quick. I think it was patched eventually, but the bad taste it left made WB abandon PC in general after that. Hence no Injustice 2.

We don't know how it will play out but the tag switch system looks like it has a lot of potential, I think it might potentially be more interesting than the old style of assists. I sort of want to see how it can be formatted for 3 man teams.

Also, I am never really a fan of ratio systems. I never liked weighting character strength like that, since it generally effects the health and damage output but not necessarily how the character plays (even though I am aware it effects risk and reward).

What's great about the game is that it really caters towards fighting game players, at least in terms of have diverse gameplay within the game's many systems. The amount of movement, combos and diverse options you have with the Stones makes it at least feel modern. I don't expect casuals to stay but that's always how it's always been, doesn't matter how difficult or hard the game is, people will master it and you will feel left behind if you don't keep up.

Makes me wonder why they didn't bother with Injustice 2 when MKX sold so well still.

I bet Injustice 2 happens. They just don't wanna bother with having to continually support the game on PC along with xbox one and PS4. They just wanna port it and call it a day. Would not be surprised to see Injustice 2 on PC when Injustice 2 XL or something happens

I'd love to hear the justification for dumping the iconic themes for Marvel characters. I assume it's probably along the lines of wanting the game to be "more cinematic".

It's the cinematic shit.

The music in Mahvel is the same forgettable, bland-ass garbage that is in shit like Injustice 2.

Agree pretty much. I think a non-PC Injustice 2 is too much a missed opportunity.

No wonder you can't get with it, you're still playing the game like it's MvC3 and not MvC2 or KoF.

Uh...what the hell are you talking about?
I can play MvC2 and KOF, and got used to MvCI's layout for what little I can with the demo. I just prefer MvC3's layout and think it's less awkward/more intuitive to newcomers, but I am NOT a newcomer.

Wow nice! Some of that Dante/Jedah synergy looks rad.

This was my favorite moment, like how he tags after the level 1 and Dante just goes to work.

That's going to be possible with every partner with Jedah so it's not really a synergy thing exclusive to Dante.

I just meant watching some of the synergy in the whole video. And yeah I suppose you can launch up with any character, just looks super cool with Dante.

I just meant watching some of the synergy in the whole video. Also does everyone's hyper combo leave you in a bounce state like that? I didn't think everyone's did.
I mean that any partner you pair up with Jedah will be able to follow up after his hyper because of it.

A lot of hyper combos in this game leave you in a state were if you tag you can combo after them.

Haha yeah, it made sense once I read your comment. I really enjoy how your character glides in when you tag, makes it feel very seamless compared to other games where you tag in characters.

Just realized that mobile game Marvel Future Fight added X-Men this year. That game was definitely make after the no fox characters rule was created, so the fact that got them in finally means I think we have a really good chances of actually getting X-Men/Doom as DLC.

Wow, so if Nemesis hits someone with his ground rocket, even at full screen(?), you can then confirm into another rocket and go into your hyper and do massive damage that can be expanded if you tag into your partner during the hyper.

That's way better than what you go out of his rockets in Ultimate(nothing).
Seems like his charged rockets have an incendiary component to them. This makes getting sniped by his rockets very threatening.

Man Skullgirls selling 1 mil copies is pretty impressive. I wonder if SFV can ever reach half that number. I am sure MvC:I will outsell SFV in steam just by the Marvel name alone.

watching various Max videos from the past year (lol at the early roster hopes... we were so naive) one thing stood out, particulrly in a video he did about patches in fighting games, the fact that (as far as we know) the game is done in house (much like SF) should make patching easier. SF5 is patched very regularly right (well, for a fighting game)?

Hopefully this means if, lets say...I dont know, someone like Zero is too much of a problem, they can tone him down a bit this time around.

Also, as much as im happy about Skullgirls, the game has been like 90% off and its been bundled 456 times aswell, let's not pretend the game sold 1 million "on steam". It has 1 million keys registered on steam. Again, not taking away from them.

edit: Hulk calls Rocket "chipmunk" when he tags him ;_;

really good matches, Nemesis putting in work.

damn that last match lol. This might hve been the best video Tyrant put out tbh, and one of the best we've seen.

Didn't know you could charge his rockets now. Interesting... They come out at a decent pace so the uncharged ones must be rather quick for such a potentially damaging projectile.

It's probably common knowledge based on prior builds, but the fact that characters can convert a combo after Gamora's ground~air gunshots is scary. Maybe just Nemesis since he's so tall. Either way, Gamora will be a popular pick.

I've really begun to ponder good team synergies--like who had a good lockdown super so that Frank West can take pictures, and thoughts such as that. I think I'm now officially hype for Marvel: Infinite.

so CEOtaku is the first "proper" (sorry Glasgow Throwdown) Infinite tournament?

Sept 22nd-24th in Florida, mere days after the official release. Wonder what noteables will be there. Any known Marvel players from Florida?

edit: oh Dormammu DOES say "run...run!" with the fireball super, I guess its just another one of those "they say different things during supers" and we had missed it?

SFV gets content updates every month and should get a balance patch once a year.

I say should because they released a kneejerk patch a few months after Season 2's because of all of the whining going on. But outside of that they only fix bugs.

Hey guys, so I need a new stick and since madcatz is gone where should I buy one from?

Reasonable price and good quality is what im looking for

Qanba Dragon looks real slick. I wanna pick one up for another PS4 stick one of these days. Razer Panthera looks pretty nice too.

I just got the HORI Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai yesterday from Amazon and it's been a game changer for me. Already noticing my inputs are way cleaner and smoother.

Nice, Firebrand pops his Storm and immediately burns it for a level 3 punish. Btw dunno if anyone noticed but he has a new damaging level 3 in addition to UMVC3's Chaos Tide.
