PewDiePie calls someone a "fucking n****r" during PUBG livestream

How are people shocked over this?

Let's not forget his infamous 1 star Hellblade review. Can't believe so many people on GAF defended him and praised him when he pulled that score. He could have simply not given a score or contacted the developer about his game breaking bug. But that doesn't result in so much attention as a 1 star review.

And the non-sequitur award goes to....

Racism and sexism being a existential threat to peoples lives = Meh

Advertisers pulling ads because of racism and sexism = this is a threat to my livelihood. Will somebody please stop him.

I didn't leave the thread. I was just monitoring what people were saying that's all.

I don't see a reason to join this conversation anymore then what I've said.

I'm asking you to explain what you meant.

Because it came off as, "I know he said the n-word. But I don't care and I'm still going to watch him."

Nah, I'll say Jim did good wording it the way he did. If streamers care the most about the money, putting it this way will have them condemn PDP's behavior.

I agree. You can't talk to YouTubers about taking a moral high ground. That shit doesn't work. They don't care about that. Talk about their money, especially in these times of AD crisis. They understand that shit. Jim doesn't make money of YouTube himself so no one can say he's looking at his own pockets on this one.

Will this be picked up by the major gaming sites or are they going to kowtow to gamergate commenters and stay away from this topic?

What the hell does that have to do with anything lol

Are people just gonna pull that 1/10 review every time Jim comes up regardless of the matter at hand now?

You mean the one-star review he revoked, and changed quick enough so now the proper review is on Metacritic, gaining him very little attention from the issue other from people who hate him already?

that one?

Fuck that

If you can't stand up and say "racism is bad" because people might not care, then those people aren't worth caring about

Jim's tweet is bad

Opposing racism is more important than potential profit loss. You lead with that

The fact that he always cared about money and views caused by outrage more than the actual issues. Hence the liability tweet about Pew.

How many times are people going to defend him with the "he is not making money on youtube". The more people see his videos the more exposure his patreon gets.

I bet it'll get more traction than this entire thread though. It's bad if it turns out to be ineffective. And Jim says fuck racists all day everyday. He knows who he's talking to and what will shake them into action, or what will have them tuck tail and cower.

Maybe provide receipts on the claim that the only time Jim Sterling cares about racists or bigotry online is when it affects his bottom line before taking that ball and trying to run it to the endzone. Otherwise you come off as a crank wasting everybody's time.

My post was a response to his tweet about this incident.

Where he called Pewds a "liability". There is your receipt. Not a racist, not an idiot, a liability.

I think some of you are taking Jim's tweet out of context, It's probably meant for people who do this sort of thing for a living.

There are good content creators I watch like Moviebob, Andre Black Nerd, and MoreConsole. PDP's actions could easily convince sponsors and such to just not support small scale content creators and go a different route, thus making many good creators out of work.

People arguing with me over how it's not racist on twitter. Like what? He ain't calling them a "fucking nigger" to make them feel good. He's straight up insulting them, and that is racist.

His apology doesn't solve anything. It would be false. He shows in the video that he isn't sorry (hell, he repeats it!). He also has a long story of sexist and anti Semitic behavior. It's not an isolated incident.

YouTube and other websites should simply kick him to the curb. It's really simple.

These companies don't have a backbone so they won't do it but it's honestly what should be done.
We as a community must hold them accountable because THEY have no backbone.
We must be vigilant in communicating to others that YouTube is a complicit and willing partner as a platform for spreading racism and white supremacy to children.
We must be vigilant in communicating to others that YouTube is a complicit and willing partner as a platform to encourage children to gamble.

Every single content creator for that platform should be up in arms AT YouTube... who provides them with their livelihood... for propping up PewDiePie, the CSGO Lotto scammers and anyone else that preys on children because they put their own means of income and prosperity in jeopardy.

The only positive that can be seen from this situation is that all the racists and apologists have been drawn into the open and rightfully banned. I always thought neogaf was above bigotry thanks to the excellent moderation but so many people showed their true colors in this thread. Can we make a list of all the lame excuses we've had to endure so far?

1. "Stop being so PC"
2. "I'm European and don't understand what a slur is"
3. "Stop letting words hurt you"
4. "He was just rhyming words and it slipped accidentally, he's not racist"

Am I missing anything?

People defending this is bullshit, this guy doesnt give a fuck tht he said it he even jokes about it. After another kill in the video he jokes and says i killed that fucking nibber, as a joke for him actually saying the N word. Guy is trash and so are all of you in this thread for defending this shit. I have said stuff while playing games before but nothing that is racist or has any defamation to any type of race, gender, background or anything.

I don't want to speak for Jim, so I won't, but I don't think there's any inherent fault in giving people a reason to scrutinize this beyond "racism is bad". We know this, they know this - but beyond that they should know that PewDiePie isn't an ally to them - blinding themselves to his racism isn't going to do their bottom line any favours (and that's a motivation for a lot of people to turn a blind-eye to this behaviour). 'His actions are only hurting you - you don't need to defend him'.

Perhaps it's a wishful intepretation though.

The fact he corrected himself to "asshole" says it all really.

Loving the comments from people in the immediate aftermath on the video: "The n word just slipped out"

Jim's been openly condemning PDP since the first time he slipped. Stop taking his tweet out of context as if this is his first comment on the subject.

But everyone already "knows" that, at least I don't see 144 characters saying "racism is inherently bad, in and of itself" suddenly flipping anyone's worldview. Sterling approached it from an angle some YouTubers might not have thought of it, and has a chance to unite the smaller and bigger players who might otherwise be apologetic toward PDP.

Finally a GOOD use of a DMCA takedown notice.

I support it 100%.

I hope all devs take out PDP. He's a racist and he's infecting the minds of other people with his casual use of racism.

No digging yourself out of this hole PDP.

Yep. CNN was guilty of this too and got called out for it:

cnn_nword__130702235725.jpg

I love how every single person on the panel has a different look of disgust in their response, but they all mean the same thing lol.

Scrolled through more than enough

- "it's just a word"
- "everyone's super sensitive"
- "we're still giving that word power in 2017"
- "well they say it in rap music"
- "he said he was sorry"

on Twitter.

He said he was sorry but then called the guy an asshole.

Bssically verifying that he used the n word in a harmful manner.

People defending this shit need to realise after his fuck up he replaced the n word with assholes thus confirming the intent

Come at me defenders cos theres fuck all to defend u racist bastards

It's continuously disappointing to me that someone so influential on a very impressionable demographic couldn't be a valuable role model. Fuck him.

And this racist outburst isn't anything new, like he's always just been an asshole. He built his fame on screaming "rape" at the top of his lungs.

WELL gamespot and eurogamer already have stuff on it and austin walker was tweeting about it. You may have Jeff or Alex muse about it on GB

Because Jim Sterling certainly never calls out bigotry otherwise, right?

Maybe we shouldn't try and assume there was more nuance to a tweet then what was actually contained within it. Knowing Jim, he'll probably go into his full opinion on the next Jimquisition, so maybe let's at least wait for that before assuming his full thoughts.

It's certainly a topic worthy of a Jimquistion after a few episodes of him treading water on the same topics.

I mean, the last time this shit happened he wrote a rather long column about it.

but yeah let's live in Ghostmaster's axe-grinding fantasy about how he only cares about these issues because he's a selfish money grubber, that's how we satisfy a one-sided narrative about the internet people we take potshots at.
