Racism will always persist so long as people refuse to acknowledge that hate and racism are mutually exclusive. Ignorance is the root of the problem. Pewds, like so many other fucking idiots, think as long as they have that black friend and/or don't hate anyone, they have a green light to exercise racism and pass it off as humor.

These people would get it after they're hit by a car and have the driver simply exclaim "I didn't intend to hit you".

Yeah, noted. Still, an apology is important I think, and he shouldnt be let off for one. Lots of people are not understanding the kind of effect he has on the younger demographic. He has no duty to them, but you would think an adult would be more perspective of his power/influence.

But since this wont be happening, it's up to other influencers to condemn him
 
I feel vindicated about not letting my kids watch him. I'll always watch a few clips from any YouTuber they want to watch, and they saw a let's play of five nights at freddies pop up as a recommendation. I watched five minutes of that idiot and told them that under no circumstances are they to watch any of his clips.

Pdp could drop off the face of the earth and the gaming industry would still be a multi-billion dollar business and there would still be YouTubers and twitch streamers.

If people are willing to defend any and all high profile shitheads like him just because he's a "gamer", don't be surprised if the general public thinks your community is toxic.

There's are serious problems in gaming like racism, sexism and harassment that tends to be shrugged off because people believe that bringing those things to light is an attack on them.

It's only an attack if you participate in those things. If anything, criticism will only grow the industry more and make it more respected because it shows that there are people who are willing to acknowledge and work on the problems.
 
Bravo to the Firewatch team and I hope more devs file claims against Pewdiepie. He has been given enough chances. His subscriber count has grounded to a halt this year compared to previous years and I think he should take his millions and just go away. I used to be a casual fan but I am sick of both his more and more boring content and his behaviour.
 
Well, I do hope that's the Pew-di-bye-a line for sponsors. There's only so much missteps an employee can take before getting kicked out.

No, I think you're right. I'd probably fall under the "paki" umbrella but I've never heard that as a general expletive. It's always used directly at someone or something.

Personally I think the n-word has the most hatred and brutality behind it. Also fetishizing Asian things and people seem to be a heavy overlap in gaming.

Yeah, I can't recall any of these guys busting out "kike," for instance, even though they do have some choice words about Jews. N***** is above and beyond other slurs, and somehow, it's the one they're all obsessed with. Quite the coincidence, that.

Actually, related to this. Sometimes you get into online arguments about race where people demand to know your race to confirm the validity of your opinions or something. There's a weird tendency to assume that other person is white or black, and forget that any other possibility exists.

What I find pretty surprising is people saying it is just a word. Don't these people know anything? Powerful people get fired or resign for saying stuff like this all the time or it's like they hadn't picked up a text book. A guess a generation of kids saying the N-word online really desensitized it.
