Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

The best strike I've done so far is the Pyramidion. Damn that was epic. The scale was incredible and the platforming was awesome. Want more of these types of Strikes that feel like more. The others don't really do that for me as of yet.

Neither a fanboy nor someone that wants to hate Destiny. I had tons of hours in Destiny 1 and have lot's of fun memories with friends in that game. But like everyone else, I felt like it had tons of unrealized potential. I went into Destiny 2 with a 'prove it to me Bungie' attitude.

And even with that attitude, I loved the first few moments/missions of the campaign. While it was just a TINY bit overkill in the very beginning with
the constant pulsing notification that you have no health
it was great to
wander around these places and have a stealth component added.
Great way to mix things up from the usual formula. I REALLY wish this part of the campaign went on longer. I know most people wouldn't like
spending too much time in a campaign without their light
, but a LITTLE bit more of this would have been appreciated.

As an added benefit,
hearing the ghost without the light was the only time in the game where I actually wanted to listen to him.
I'll expand more on this in a second.

However, the only other part of the campaign I enjoyed was the very end, mainly because of the skyboxes and atmosphere. Like many people have said, the final fight was a joke, and really the whole campaign was shockingly easy. Most of the middle of the campaign was the usual Destiny mission design without any more creativity. It's like they put a bunch of effort into the beginning, ran out of ideas/time, and resorted to filler for the middle.

Here's the other thing that bothered me, and probably bothered me the most. The dialogue.

Yes, I know Bungie directed the writers to make a script that could be understood by literally anybody the picks up the game. I have no problem at all with a developer making their game accessible to everyone. If they want a story that can be understood by a 7 year old and a 70 year old, no problem.

But there have been plenty of times where we have seen a movie, a television show, a book, and even a video game that can be easily enjoyed by any age group; a film where people leave saying it's 'fun for everyone' with characters that can make you laugh whether your 10 years old or 100 years old.

Bungie needs to hire writers that can accomplish that. There's difference between writing that can be enjoyed by everyone, and writing that will make 90% of the people listening to it cringe, and cringe hard. Destiny 2 is absolutely PACKED with cringe dialogue. And the saddest part of that, is that it applies to your ghost as well. Outside of the beginning of the game
where the ghost struggles without the light
listening to him interact with the world was a chore.

As you know, your ghost is the only source of emotion and reaction to the world of Destiny for your own character, since your character never speaks. So, it's up to your ghost to react for you. And what a shame it is to have your source of reacting to the world around you wasted with horrible writing, to the point where you just would rather the ghost shut up entirely.

Stories in Destiny can be told in various ways for every age group, but it's clear that the writers on board at the moment are not capable of doing so. For Destiny 3, I hope they find better talent.

I can't comment yet on the endgame routine yet until I, for starters, actually reach the end game and can experience the raid. The raid is what had me coming back every week with my friends, as well as the nightfall, record book stuff, other end game material, etc. So, we'll see if this ends up hooking me like previous Destiny content.

But as for my thoughts on the campaign: a few flavorful bright spots that are eventually overpowered with the sour Destiny pitfalls of uninspired mission design and irritating dialogue.

Yep, this was by far my favorite one, it's a blast to run through.

im so utterly confused because the game doesn't seem to be fluid at all when playing it, yet all the streams are like buttery smooth and shit, Im like "is my console broken or something ?" huh.

With Sturm and Drang I can get my Titan up to 283. Gonna see if I get some loot to bring my other guns up as well.

The thing that kind of sucks about this is that you are then stuck using these weapons unless you infuse to another side arm or loot something else higher level.

I don't like feeling forced to use a weapon because it gives me a higher PL. Yes, the argument can be made the no-one if forcing you to use the weapon... but if you want that higher PL you need it.

Would be nice if you could infuse whatever you wanted, and it didn't require sidearm > sidearm infusion.

Meet us half-way bungie and let us infuse kinetic > kinetic, energy > energy, and power > power.

Must be something wrong?

game is 30fps obviously but plays like a dream with no hiccups.

Don't know, I played all my other games after and they re all fine. Dream is really not what I would call it, it stutters like crazy when im playing on the pc monitor. However, when swapping over to a TV it completely changes. Same shit with the switch actually, its just horrible on my monitor but awesome on the tv

My KD is phenomenal in this compared to D1, I suck with snipers and shotguns so that's prob why I'm going great now, loving it!!

In other news, I'm bucking the trend and popping engrams as I go along...feels good mang haha.
I'm doing the same. Just got a couple of 272 legendaries for a Crucible milestone. No regrets.

Not sure if I'll do alts this time around. You already level pretty quick as it is. And I might be jumping ship to PC eventually too.

As someone who only has a PC I missed out on Destiny 1.

Outside of the MMO endgame, how does the game compare to Borderlands 2? It seems there isn't that many exotics / unique items, and loot is a big reason why I love the Borderlands series.

Is it fair to say that Borderlands has more in common with Diablo, while Destiny is more like World of Warcraft? Perhaps I'll be better served waiting for BL3?

I was 284 and I got the clan nightfall engram at 281 light, what gives? I thought clan engrams were "powerful gear".

I play my game on a 4k pc monitor and has no hiccups and is buttery smooth. I think you have an issue with your monitor

So it seems like the series more and more sets up the Fallen to be kind of like that annoying neighbor rather than a threat that has to be completely eliminated. I really liked the exotic quest that showed that.

I loved that quest!

I do also see this happening.

I think as long as the majority of the team has the mission you're fine. So if you know two people who need to do it, you can join them.

I'm more worried about what will happen in 6 months when a new person picks the game up & starts looking for help. Theoretically the population will be large enough where this wouldn't be a problem, but it seems somewhat unnecessary/over complicated making this a "one & done" type quest, rather than making it like the OP quest in D1.

Hopefully (maybe), having the gun on you will count the same as having the quest.

Man, this is confusing.

So, I finished the campaign, am lvl 20 PL 216.

What's next? I see a lot of talk of milestones, challenges, adventures, patrols...

How do I get my PL up?

Also, should I join a clan?

Now that I've got the Rat King, is there any way for me to go back & help others with the quest, or is it literally ONE & done?

Yes, you can help others with it, though I'm not entirely sure if it requires you to at least have the weapon on hand or not. I tried running some patrols with my brother and saw that I didn't get credited for the quest, but once I had a full fireteam help me out (both of them had the exotic), I was able to go through the quest line.

I'm only up to the public event parts, but I at least feel better that it doesn't seem to require you to pair up others that currently have the quest active. I'm guessing you need to have a full fire team though.

Fun fact spoiler for the world quest on Titan after the campaign.
Don't kill the captain at the end only the hive knight. The fallen aren't such bad guys ;).
Is it that good? I got it and it seems pretty good, but not like, earth shatteringly good. Am I missing something?
Use it on a boss. Because bosses don't die in one hit. Each time you fire at the boss the charge time gets faster and faster tell all you do is tap the button. Plus with the large clip you can take down most bosses to half health in a few seconds. Add that with the warlock rift buff/auto reload legs and it's brutal.

Sunshot! Gravitron is good as well. And every time your new bar fills up, you get a bright engram.
People are sleeping on Riskrunner. Best gun in the game once you get to know which enemies shoot arc, and it's a no brainer against Fallen. If you're using an arc subclass you can self-trigger it with your grenade. It also adds an extra layer to the gameplay seeing how long you can chain the effect by killing enemies before the timer runs out.

Do all of your "Powerful Gear" milestones now if you can, they're resetting tomorrow.

It's mainly powerful in the context of pumping damage into high health targets like strike bosses, where you can just sustain the charge time bonus for the full clip. In that element I imagine nothing really competes with the single target DPS of Merciless.

Huh.

Imagine my surprise when not even vanguard legendary engrams can go over 265 when you aren't super high in level.

I guess this officially means that outside of milestones you literally have zero reason to keep grinding unless you want to get blues/purples for breaking down for xur. But I'm fairly happy with what I have right now and if my friends and I get rat king that'll be my primary of choice.

I'm getting blues to drop at 271 with my Titan at 276. Good for alts...

Yeah, that was a neat touch. Though I have to admit
Zavala making a big deal about the Fallen not all being bad was kind of amusing, considering you've already been working with Variks for some time now.

if you want to REALLY max..

I would run pubs and lost sectors until you get to 260. Then do the luminous engram quests (I would have told you to wait but it resets tonight) after that you should be 265+

also be super careful with armor drops (ALWAYS CHECK IF THEY HAVE A +5 ARMOR MOD ON THEM)

Thanks for the run, guys. Nightfall is where the game gets fun. Once I switched from Mida to Nameless Midnight, I did much better.

Has anyone actually received an exotic from caydes treasure maps?

Curious if there is even a chance....

How do you replay story missions and adventures?

Ikora.

She has meditations that let you replay story missions for rep tokens. There are 3 or 4 and they reset/rotate each week.

Yesterday I made a new character and did the missions necessary to unlock the missions on Titan. I was like level 5 or so.

I just went from public event to public event with the exp token you get from Tess.I got to 20 in a few hours. Maybe 4 or 5 and I was over 200 light by the time I got there.

How do you replay story missions and adventures?

For replaying story missions
You need to go speak to Ikora to reminisce about your past adventures, though it seems like you can't pick all stages, only a select few.

Adventures can be replayed by talking to the npc in each patrol area (i.e. Devrim in EDZ). They show up like bounties when you talk to them.

that's great and all but (end game spoiler)
the tower is still locked away until you complete the campaign correct?

Thanks for this Dez, good to know we can still help new people out when they get to this point in the game. I hated the thought of that exotic being locked away for some folks.

Hope to catch you in orbit sometime man, hope all is well on your end. If you need some bodies to help finish that quest, let me know.

It better not be 1 and done. I will need some help in a week or 2 to get it. I hope that as long as the people you are playing with have the exotic it would still count.

If you're on PSN, shoot me a friend request, my ID is the same as my GAF name. I'll be happy to help you through once you get there.

I got Riskrunner last night from an PE Engram drop. Best thing I've found in the game so far. It is a beast.
