Nintendo Direct announced for Sept 14, 2017 (midnight CEST)

Looking forward to that stretch of the direct where for NoE they wheel out Shibata saying "we also have a new game to show you..." and he then spends 6 minutes on like Mario Party 14, painstakingly explaining concepts like "you hit the dice and move around the board" as slowly as possible.

Which reminds me ... anyone have those awesome countdowns ?

It is already out in Japan and the words come fromthe japanese description.

Yes but the Dragonball games don't get the bulk of their sales in Japan, it mostly comes from the west. They're not going to announce a new DB game for a platform one week before another one releases, that'd be Capcom level of poor planning.

Xenoverse sold awesomely on japan and they said that would port "if the fans wanted".

Tweets about it had 15 THOUSANDS retweets. That is some "free mcnuggets" levels of retweet

Huh handsomely is jumping the gun a bit, we know it's sold out but that might also mean Namco didn't have much confidence in it and shipped a small amount. We'll see tomorrow I guess.

I agree it probably won't be in this direct: announcing DBFZ now would cut the potential of XV2 in the west, and they're not Capcom. The ball likely refers to Rocket League imo, and the dragon is probably Skyrim and maybe DQXI imo.

Indeed, I'm not disputing the fact that the game might come to the Switch eventually but it's not going to be announced in this direct.

Star Wars Battlefront 2!

That would be an insane reveal.

Maybe a remake of an older FE? Like GotHW or Thracia 776?

Yeah maybe.

Are you expecting a fast-pced Direct with headlines like the last one? Or a slower one with Reggie and Treehouse staff?

I'm hoping it's fast paced. They have the new Nintendo Direct logo now so I hope it means it will be the same pace as April's.

Emperor = Empoleon = Pokken?

Hmmm. Lots of ways to take emperor.

I was just about to say "I'll never forget when Capcom announced the PS2 port of RE4 before the GameCube version launched" lol

Hopefully the past few directs are a good indication that those dark days are over. No more 10 minutes interview of the person who designed the whool Yoshi Amiibos.

Emperor ? It's obviously the Emperor Gesthalt from Final Fantasy VI ! FFVI Remake confirmed ! But wait... Platinum is working on Switch and Kamiya RTed the Direct news.

Platinum + Gesthalt = Cavia
Cavia + Gesthalt = NieR Gesthalt.

If we use the Ending E in Drakengard and read one of the novels made for NieR Automata, then it makes perfect sense that NieR Remaster for Switch is confirmed.

Is Direct hieroglyphics translation the new "Direct bingo?"

Lol @ all the people who think "Mother" isn't a new Cooking Mama.

Mario Maker existing is the perfect opportunity to make a fresh 2D Mario game again. Mario games shouldn't be so paint-by-numbers that they can be assembled in a level editor. If it could be done in SMM, it shouldn't be in a new game. New powerups, new level themes, new gimmicks.

You can barely make any of the levels found in NSMBW in Mario Maker.

This is some epic tease. Dragon could be Skyrim, and the dancing red lady could be Mario Odyssey. Not sure which if any would be xenoblade.

I posted earlier saying I wasn't boarding the hype train for this direct, but aw hell. It's 45 minutes long. There's bound to be at least one crazy hype-inducing announcement.

Revising my predictions a little bit (still keeping my expectations somewhat in check):

-The Smash logo slashes across the screen. We get a trailer for the new Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch, alongside a character trailer for Inkling Boy/Girl. Looks to be a port of Smash 4, with visual tweaks, tons of new modes, a mixture of Wii U and 3DS stages, and a new single-player mode. Set for release in 2018.

-Koizumi appears on screen and hosts the rest of the direct. Announcements will be very fast-paced like the last Direct he hosted.

3DS Segment:
-Some last-minute lipservice for Metroid Samus Returns
-An actual description of what the hell Ultra Sun/Moon is
-Some details on the Kirby game that is coming.
-More details on M&L Superstar Saga remake
-A few smaller indie games coming soon
-Rhythm Heaven?

Switch segment:
-OS Update, finally! Streaming apps coming soon. eShop gets a mild overhaul.
-Nintendo Classics service is announced, with a late 2017 or January 2018 launch date. Mother 3 will be a launch game (released within the first 3 or 4 months of the service). Reggie's whole "talk to me in a year and we'll see what's happened" line makes me suspect Mother 3 is closer than we might expect. NES and SNES will be the focus of the Classics service at first.
-Zelda's 2nd DLC is discussed.
-More brief tidbits on 2017 games we already know about: Pokken, FE Warriors, Xenoblade 2, maybe a little something about Skyrim or L.A. Noire.
-Third parties will be announcing new games at this Direct. At the very least we'll hear from Platinum about W101 and/or Bayonetta. We'll get at least one big unannounced third party game that is set to release this year.
-New Joy-con or Pro Controller design (wedding white?), or some other cosmetic hardware revision that is Mario Odyssey-themed.
-Big-name indies we didn't see in the indie direct get release dates. (At least one of either Yooka-Laylee, Stardew Valley, or Hollow Knight)
-Rocket League: Release date is announced.
-Teaser update for either Kirby or Yoshi, but not both. We finally learn the title of the game. Positioned as a February release.
-Pure, unadulterated Odyssey goodness for about 8-12 minutes.
-One more thing. The Smash logo slashes across the screen one more time. It's a character trailer... Ice Climbers are back, baby!

I think there will be a good amount of big surprises in this Direct, but I really think people are setting themselves up to be disappointed hoping for Smash. This timing for a Smash announcement would be really odd, since I very much doubt they're porting Smash 4, and a Smash 5 would likely take a bit more time to develop, even if they are working from Smash 4 as a base.

I'd say January Direct or next E3 would be reasonable times to hear about Smash.

You can like it
You can hate it
You can ignore it

but the PRE Direct days are the glory days of NeoGAF
It's more fun now becuase Nintendo is doing really well.

During the bad times of Wii U. People thought the directs would fix all the problems and world hunger lol

it makes much more sense to port Smash 4, a game that's designed to have a big, long-running competitive scene, than it does to port every other Wii U multiplayer game Nintendo saw fit to port.

But that's sorta why I'm now doubting it. Smash 4 would've been something that would make sense day 1, or maybe a couple months in, but now that the Switch is basically swimming in competitive multiplayer games (and online ones too) it feels like poor timing to simply port that just to fill that role.

The longer we go without hearing about a Smash 4 port the more I think they're just working on Smash 5.

lol

i'd love to see smash 4 but i don't think it's happening for a while. nintendo has been pushing arms and splatoon 2 and pokken and a handful of smaller titles as their local multiplayer competitive games for this year. smash will be next year.

Weren't people thinking a while back that Smash is being intentionally held back so that Pokken doesn't get overshadowed? Smash can release at any time and people will go for it. Pokken sold pretty well for a Pokemon spin-off on Wii U but it would need the boost more than Smash.

I felt so terrible when that happened. Her story was cute (as are wool Yoshis ), but people don't want to hear about cute wool amiibos in nintendo's E3 direct.
What a buzzkill.

I'm actually surprised Okami is skipping Switch for now.
Thought it would do the best on a nintendo platform. Oh well, personally wasn't a fan of it but I know some people who would've instant buy it on Switch.
