So Bungie's twitter feed said they're removing gauntlets from the game because markings on them could be interpreted "as hateful". So that's what the patch was I do believe.

I'm puzzled by the elimination of the crucible playlists. I'm not a huge pvp'er, but I usually played control. Kind of bugs me that we can't choose our modes anymore.
And I miss seeing my rank with factions. I want to know how many times I've rolled over my groups.

I think after Joe Staten left and the game got rebooted, a lot of things he championed were things Bungie needed to kill off for them to properly refocus what Destiny should be about.
For example, Bungie flat out said they had no idea what "The Darkness" actually was in D1. They decided to just use it as a umbrella term for all the races that were after The Traveler and/or humanity.
There's a very clear distinction between the more esoteric and mystical elements of the lore in D1, compared to the Call of Duty style stories they started focusing on in TTK. You can see Luke Smith clearly pivoting (too much in my opinion) to very simple stories with Big Villains (tm) in response to the mess that was the rebooted D1 story we got in vanilla.
While I think TTK did a good job with this, and to an extent RoI (although that could easily have been a great side quest in D2), and still keep that weird fantasy / sci-fi combo, I think D2 strayed too far from this. At least on the surface level, especially since a lot of the cooler lore is now completely missing from the game in the absence of the Grimoire. It sucks that they couldn't find a way to get all the weird and crazy stuff in the game, because that's what's cool about Destiny. Nobody cares about scanning Fallen antennas.
My dream job right now is to work at Bungie to make sure all players see all the cool lore they have.
I read it as they are removing the symbol, not the gauntlets themselves.

There was a downloadable patch. Those are only usually available when the game is ready to launch. The confusion is understandable.
It gets worse as you progress. If there is no cap and it eventually takes days to get one Bright Engram I predict people are going to be furious.

It definitely takes longer the more you do them. It's annoying because it's microtransactions straight from freemium gaming. They wet your beak a bit with free gifts, then promise you that you'll keep getting some through the progress of the game but what's this... Everything is slowed to a crawl? Oh man I really want more, give me give me here are 50 bucks.

You would have to fight Byf for that role, one of his latest videos basically was a "please hire me Bungie" type of video (by no means a bad thing either).
Damn I had been using those gauntlets for a while too the last few days. Just swapped them out for different ones last night actually. Good on Bungie for being proactive and removing them.
