PewDiePie Responds after using racial slur

Just for the record, I am in no way defending what he did, I just give the benefit of the doubt and think ranting on an apology does not help.

Accepting an insincere apology made to cover his own ass does not help.

At this point you have to be incredibly naive to even think of giving that guy a nth chance.
Nothing short of a kick in the wallet is going to make him change his behavior.
You have to be so poor at pattern matching if you can't how this is going to go.

I'm not even sure that would help, I have to imagine the Disney deal he blew was a big financial opportunity lost.

That's the same thing. You don't give the benefit of the doubt to someone who already has shown he is a piece of shit several times.
If you still do you either you are just like him and are trying to defend something that you also do, or a complete moron.

1. Monetized the video.

2. Sorry if I offended anyone.

3. This is what, the 4th instance like this for him?

Any one of those take a lot of credibility out of an apology, let alone all three. Never was a fan of his content, but liked seeing that someone could be so successful playing video games. Never realized how repulsive his content could be.

That is completely wrong.
You're interpreting way too much into what I said.
Aim that at someone else or just cut it out.

Edit: Are you serious with that edit? Okay thats enough.

Actually no. I have to apoligize. Looking for an original quote I mistook you for another banned poster. My bad actually. I was wrong herw

If he waa truly sorry about it (which of course he isn't, why is the word in his vocabulary? ) he would have humbly apologized in the instant it happened.

Instead he dug in his heels, put up a pre- defense about how people unjustly accuse him, and then laughed with a donor who made a joke of the situation, using that as an opportunity to say it again.

His real feelings came out moments after he said it... "the people who watch his stream wont care"

Monetized the video?

If I was as stupid as him but then genuinely remoseful I would have

1. Not monetized the video
2. Apologised specifically to black people for saying what I said.

Personally I think it's appropriate in an apology to repeat what you said, and explain the context of what you said and we're feeling when you said it, because that shows ownership of the issue to me. I get an impersonal vibe and a seeking of seperation when someone says 'im sorry for saying those horrible things'

Which horrible things you shit, say it out loud while not in the heat of the moment and own it.

That might be a personal thing though, I understand a lot of people think white people should simply not say the word ever, not even in the context of an apology, but I don't agree with that

And now all is forgiven cause he is sorry he got caught showing who he really is.

Nah, fuck him and any parents that let their kids watch this garbage.

You can't just preface your defense of PewDiePie with "I'm not defending PewDiePie" and expect people to take you seriously. The rest of your statement has to line up.

A little like you can't just preface a statement where you fail to address how what happened happened, why it's wrong, or how you acted immediately afterward with "I'm sorry" and expect people to believe it. The rest of your apology has to line up.

EPIC reply bro ;)

Btw are you as naive as Anarion is?

Thanks bud! That means a lot coming from you brooo! <3

But yeah, you don't know me so I don't understand why you're calling me naive, I also don't know who Anarion is.

My take is that pewdiepie was obviously wrong saying the n-word, and he apologized for it. Did he made this kind of mistakes in the past? Yes.
Can he be better and evolve from this? Absolutely, it only depends on him.

Only the future will tell. As for you, I don't think there is any saving.

I am Anarion. And apparently you're as naive as me for saying "only time will tell".

At press time, PewDiePie was once again under fire for an incident in a new PUBG stream where, after getting run over by a vehicle, he accidentally left his house, booked a flight to Kentucky, stayed in a hotel for three days, and joined a Civil War reenactment fighting as a Confederate soldier.
This is great.

It's amazing how many people here can see the future. Maybe he's gonna change. Maybe not. Only time and his actions will tell. But telling him to f* off because he won't change anyway blabla doesn't help either.

Personally, I thought it was a sincere apology. The "sorry if i offended anyone" does seem bad on its own, but not in the context of the whole video, imo.

And the video is not monetized, so you might aswell just click it. Your click won't make him richer, don't worry.

How many times does someone have to display the same terrible behavior then apologize for it, before you realize the apologies aren't sincere?

I think this is pretty good.

If your public apology doesn't cover what it is you are apologising for it isn't an apology, it's damage control.

Once is a mistake. Seven or eight times now? He is what he is. Every time he says sorry and promises nebulous betterment for himself and yet he never outlines what that needs to entail. He never showcases his change. He never lays out any sort of plan or clear changes.

He is who he is. And who he is isn't someone that kids should look up too.

Damn, aren't you a zinger-slinger.

I'm glad you're worried for me, but since you can't even seem to recall who you agreed with 100% just a moment ago, I wouldn't waste my energy on me if I were you.

And yes, I'm calling you guys naive as fuck for giving someone the benefit of doubt time and time again.

E: whoops. I'll cool it.

So how many chances are you going to give him?

His 'apology' is laughable and it's quite clear he's only done it because there's been a huge shitstorm (rightly so.)

He should not get a third opportunity, no matter how "sincere" his apology is (Which is not, just check his attitude during the stream, after he said the n word).

This guy needs to suffer consequences for his acts, he is not a school boy anymore asking to be forgiven. He is an adult. Also, he is a coward , who he starts his apology saying that a lot of people talk like that? that guy is the definition of a weasel.

What an absolutely garbage "apology" from a garbage human. "I'm sorry you were offended" isn't a damn apology.

And how many chances is he going to be given? The rape "jokes" weren't enough? The anti-Semitic "jokes" weren't enough? His racial "slip up" from a month ago wasn't enough? The racial slur this past week wasn't enough?

Give me a break. Stop giving him the benefit of the doubt. He's not going to change. This is who he is.

Fact: If he was truly sorry he would have apologised on the spot, immediately after saying it. If he realises how bad a word it is to use why did he laugh it off and continue as if nothing had happened?

After that tweet with the photo of the neonazi march and the sarcasm i do not think there is any hope of salvation for him.

What a terrible human being.

I mean... if he literally never pulls this crap again, then that apology would be... okay, I guess? But he will, won't he. It's him.

I was reminded of the BoJack Horseman episode where Todd dresses BoJack down with "You can't keep doing this! You can't keep doing shitty things and feel bad about yourself like that makes it okay! You need to be better."

I need to catch up with Bojack, thanks for reminding me.

Flawless:

How is using a word that mean "member of X race" as a derogatory term not hate speech toward that race?!!

"The worst word I could possibly think of."

That's telling to me.

In the words of Ta-Nehisi Coates in an excellent recent article: "essential to the construct of a "white race" is the idea of not being a nigger."

So, yeah, "nigger" being the worst word--the worst thing you could call someone--definitely fits if you're a racist or white supremacist.

Didn't he also say that he was looking for the worst word he could think during his stream as well?

EDIT:
Hm, the video "PewDiePie admits that he says the N-word often and just forgot he was livestream" isn't up anymore. That's the one that showed his discussion with his friend later in the stream.

Not a great response, I was properly informed how he should have known better in the previous thread. He needs to do much better than this.

The thing about using ignorance as a defense is this: If you are cognizant enough to try to use "I'm just an idiot" as your excuse for your own behavior, you are clearly not actually dumb enough for that to be a valid defense.

Here are a couple other bullshit quotes from that "apology":

“I’m disappointed in myself because it seems like I’ve learned nothing from all these past controversies,”
"I’m really sorry if I offended, hurt or disappointed anyone with all of this. Being in the position I am, I should know better."

These are the words of an unapologetic millionaire who saw his brand potentially losing revenue, panicked, and read the comments sections and message boards for 2 days to figure out what he should apologize for. The only words that don't feel copy/pasted are "I'm sorry IF i offended anyone," and that is the fucking weakest pseudo-apology anyone can provide.

In my opinion, this dude should not be allowed to broadcast anything. On any outlet.

I don't think the apology is laughable, at least I wasn't laughing at it, it sounded sincere, was it? As the "naive" Anarion said, only time will tell.

As for the chances, I don't need to give him any. I don't watch his content, nor do I know him. But I do hope he grows from here.

Well, that's disgusting.

I hope so too. Not for his sake but because of the reach and influence he has, especially with kids.

But, I am doubtful he'll ever change, because he doesn't seem to want to change. He keeps doing things like this and apologizing and doing them again. At this point an apology isn't enough. He needs to show real contrition. He needs to outright condemn the filth in the comments of all of his YouTube video.

It's why a comment like "time will tell" is so frustrating. Time has told. And the pattern keeps repeating.

I’m not going to watch the apology because I don't believe it is sincere. For me the stream confirmed my suspicion that pewdiepie is a bigot. It is a shame that I can’t casually subscribe to someone on youtube without being afraid that I might be unawarely supporting a bigot/scumbag. I like video games & anime but it seems an alarming number that post about those topics on youtube have gross personal views &/or subversive agendas.

Fact: If he was truly sorry he would have apologised on the spot, immediately after saying it. If he realises how bad a word it is to use why did he laugh it off and continue as if nothing had happened?

This. Remember when Ryan Davis from giant bomb said the f word on a stream and immediately felt shitty for doing that? This is like the opposite of that.

I watched the video and shrugged. I thought it was an acceptable apology and the tone seemed right to me. Beyond that, I just don't have the venom left to keep attacking and saying "fuck you" to a person who is apologizing. Maybe I'm too old.

Hopefully he does something positive moving forward.
