My 6p shuts down a bit right after 1% :)

Two years with this phone now. Been running Oreo in the beta program and it's absolutely a joy to use this phone. I was thinking of upgrading soon but nah.

Best phone I've ever owned. Clearly the best Nexus ever.

Also, the camera is still good!

Shot in complete darkness, the only light sources were from the harbor:

Not bad for a two year old phone! 👌

I had another restart last night while I was texting. It's really annoying to not be able replicate the problem and getting the same useless advice from Google. And after the latest restart, my battery seems to be draining faster. Decided to get a Pixel XL and just let go of this phone. Disappointing.

I started getting random reboots too, not sure if it's Android 8.0? Anyways they have been kinda few and far between and I just got this refurb. My old phone was dying at like 50% battery. I'll hold onto this one until it gets like my old one.

Woah glad I'm not the only one with this. I thought my battery problem was due to constant use of my phone as mobile hotspot while plugged in to the charger most of the time I'm at home. But seems everybody got the same issue and it ages poorly. My 6P can't last more than %20 before shutting down.

But I'm not ready to dump it yet, it still work fine except the short battery life.

I really wanna buy the next google phone, but this problem (which first I thought was an isolated case of me) raised my eyebrow over their build quality.

I'm not on Android 8.0 so I don't think that is the cause. I've had it over several versions of 7.0. At this point I'm of the thought that its the way Huawei built the phone that is causing the issue.

I'm really hoping that it isn't so much of an issue that its a phone from Google as it is that its the manufacturer who made the 6P

I've honestly never had an Android phone that worked well after 2 years. There's always something that makes the experience bad enough to entice switching.

That being said, this random shutdown shit is nonsense, and I do think I will never get another Huawei phone because of it. Like, it drives down usability incredibly when you have no idea how much battery you really have left.

Got mine replaced by Google out of warranty.

How'd you manage this? Whom did you contact? Literally 24 hours after making my post a few posts back saying my 6P is still working it randomly shut down at 75% battery and won't reboot at all...

Follow-up: Anyone wanna recommend a good Cricket-compatible Android phone that's $300 or fewer dollars?

Edit: Three months out of warranty, and Best Buy, Huawei, and Google all told me to kick rocks. I don't expect Best Buy to do anything, but I'm a little disappointed in the other two parties. Absolutely won't ever buy a Huawei product again and considering going to Apple after this. Just seems insane for an essentially flagship device to simply shut off on its own with rampant boot loop and battery problems and no replacement options available.

Gonna use my Discover card's extended warranty option at this point. RIP 6P, you were a great phone while you lasted.

So I decided to update the 6p to 8.0 hoping it might fix the battery issues but nope, instead it corrupted all my data forcing me to factory reset.

I'll wait to see if the battery problem is still there but I probably will never get a google phone again. What a terrible experience.

Just spoke to them, they are shipping me a replacement device. I originally bought it in Nov 2015. Battery hasn't been a huge issue (though I've had a few shutdowns at 30%-40%) but I've been having a lot of microphone related issues. Bluetooth and speaker are ok, but on regular calls the other party wasn't able to hear me well at all.

I'm going to really try for the Pixel XL. Apparently, with the one reddit post:

Anyone in NA with a 64GB 6P (like me and have bought from the Google Play Store) have been getting brand new 128GB Pixel XL phones. Not everyone, but when they do replace them.

I have the 6P 32GB. I went from a Note 4 to this. And I hate it. Due to the lack of storage I've had to stream the content I used to keep on memory stick for this.

The battery dies at 10% and its just ass.

Can't wait for my Note 8 good riddance.

Mine dies at 25 to 35% with regular use and will die at 75% when I play a game or run a non-google/non-email app.

Oooh, so good timing on my request then. The support person I talked to seems to have pushed through the replacement for my mic issue also. Someone on that thread seems to have had it denied for mic issues.

Not too many questions asked either. Mainly about what I tried to fix it and whether there was physical damage.

How are you guys getting replacements? My guy told me to put my phone in safe mode and then factory reset...

After you have done trouble shooting and the problems persist they (Google) will replace the phone, supposing you purchased from the Play Store.

I purchased from the Play store and I'm having several pretty annoying issues, but not the battery issue.

I have an issue escalated with them and I'm hoping they make an exception for me, but not expecting a miracle.

What happens if you bought the phone through Huawei, my GF is having that very same problem with the phone dying anywhere between 15-30% battery life.

I had one with the battery issue, a second with the bootlooping issue. Hardware problems are covered by warranty...awaiting my third 6P delivery.

That would be subject to the Huawei warranty in your region. US example: http://consumer.huawei.com/us/support/warranty-policy/ if it's after a year then you are out of luck.

He asked me what troubleshooting steps I had taken, I told him I did a factory reset and the battery issue was still occurring, and he then said I would receive a replacement phone.

I think you'd have to talk to Huawei directly about replacing it. It seems Google will only replace those that were purchased through them

I haven't factory reset mine, but will they know if I didn't factory reset the phone? I don't feel like doing that.

I posted this within the last 24 hours, but Huawei told me to kick rocks when I asked them for help ~94 days after my warranty expired. This was with my phone just restarting on its own and never recovering from said random restart. I hope someone else out there has better luck, but as it stands, I'll never buy another Huawei product ever, and I'll certainly be encouraging others I know to avoid them. I've owned almost 10 cell phones and have never had one die on me at all, let alone 15 months after purchase.

I'm in the same boat. Not touching Huawei again, and certainly not buying another phone on eBay.

Well that definitely sucks that Huawei won't help at all. Incredibly annoying to deal with companies like that. I just got a replacement pixel in place of my 6P since it was being so awful and like you and others, I'm not viewing Huawei in a positive way and plan to avoid their phones in the future

About a month ago I started running into the early shutdown issue (with the battery as high as 55% in a couple cases), and that, combined with the laughably low battery life, led me to toss the 6P in the trash and pick up a OnePlus 5 instead. It's a shame, too - the 6P was actually a pretty nice phone and had served me well up until the shutdown issue became a 'multiple times a day' problem.

This isn't my first run-in with faulty Google-branded hardware - I had to have a Pixel C replaced because the backlight stopped working. I've had many other phones and tablets from different companies over the years, and the only ones that have failed me are the two Google devices.

EDIT: I didn't realize they were doing out of warranty replacements. I bought mine direct from Google, so I'll have to see if they can help me out.

So, I haven't let my phone (64gb launch model) go below 40-50 percent for a while now, just always on a charger at work or home.

Decided to test it today with all the news of replacements. Shut down at around 20%.

15 minute chat with support and I have a 128gb Pixel XL on the way. Yay!

3 months after my first contact with Google/Fi to get a replacement....I still don't have one and I pay the $5 extra a month for protection. >:(

I contacted Fi support regarding awful battery on my Nexus 6p, and they sent me a pixel XL. I wasn't even pushing for it, they just offered it.

what the shit!?

Why did this guy tell me to do all of this battery shit and contact them after a few weeks if it didn't work.

Someone on Reddit mentioned that is the first line of support, running through a script. Message tomorrow and say you tried it, you'll get your phone.

They emailed me a list of things to do, and i genuinely had gone through everything on that list so I told them so. After that they were like we will make a one time exception and send you a replacement.

Yea, I think it depends who you talk to.

It also helps to mention that you've already done factory resets, checked for software updates, etc. They seemed to skip troubleshooting with me once I said those things.

I've been on hold for customer support with all my Nexus 6P info for about 45 minutes now. Still waiting.

EDIT: I literally got someone 2 minutes after I posted this.

They are apparently going to call me back after they figure out a replacement.

I got my 32GB 6P though Google Fi a couple years ago and it can't make it past 50% before shutting down. Been that way for the past couple months and it's getting worse. I went through the Google Fi chat support and they're sending me a 32GB XL. Honestly, outside of the battery issues, I loved this phone.

Wow, they are apparently talking sending a replacement, but not exactly what the replacement is going to be. They said they are going to call back and the suspense is killing me. If they are going to send me another 6P, I'm going to argue with them that this is just going to happen again with that 6P.

Here comes my 128GB Pixel XL! Fuck yeah! Can't fucking wait. It'll be here Monday or Tuesday. Or hopefully luck is on my side and come Saturday :).

Glad this thread was bumped as I've been experiencing this too... Currently running 7.1.2

My phone will hit 15% which is when it's supposed to enter super low battery mode but instead, it flat out shuts off. Looking at the posts here it seems this is a known issue and Google / Huawei are issuing replacement batteries or whatever for it? I'm asking since I purchased my phone way back when it first launched and I'm OOW.

^ posted back in May.

So happy I waited. Thanks 6P GAF. While I bought an S8 not too long after this post, I'm getting a free Pixel XL in a few days. :)

Nice! That's awesome.

I wonder if Telus would replace my 6P... this battery life is killing me.
I know they won't.

Mine still works great, but yeah it does die way too soon when it's at 10%. It used to be that this would still give me a good chunk of usage. I don't know what changed. I kinda don't think this would be a good reason to call support though even though I got it from the Play Store. It's just a phone getting long in the tooth.

Is it going down quickly at 10% or shutting off at 10%? If you look at the battery graphs for the phones with the battery problem, what it looks like is that it'll descend to a certain percentage and then drop off vertically. If the drop-off is just steep but not pretty much vertical, I think it might just be wear-and-tear or apps sucking up battery.

Mine has gotten worse over time. For the last week or so, it's been shutting down near 50% more consistently (whereas previously it was around 30%). It's almost unusable without being plugged in now, since I never know how much battery I actually have left.
