iOS 11 |OT| iPad becomes useful

Hmmmmmm. Handoff between my iPhone and iPad on iOS 11 isn’t working at all.

My iPad needed a restart to get handoff/Universal Clipboard working

Well, after a full restore and set up as new, I can confirm this GM is just buggy, not leftover beta cruft. Glad I’m wasting my time for nothing

I restarted both my iPhone and iPad and it didn’t do anything. :(

Bit of a specific question, but I don't know how to word what I'm asking about to search it. After iOS 11, when I'm on the phone, if I lift my phone it shows the call menu, letting me hang up/speaker phone/mute etc. Before, it used to just show my lock screen and notifications, and I'd have to unlock to show the normal call menu. Is there a way in iOS 11 to restore previous functionality? I preferred lifting my phone to show messages/email when on a call, and I've accidentally muted a call or hung up a few times now because of this change.

Wtf.. you can’t control music from the watch anymore? I thought my library was just updating. Why would they remove a feature like that?

It’s all in the Now Playing app now. I like this since it’s just in one app now but I don’t like that you can’t control shuffle or repeat at all on the watch anymore.

Is it? I meant choose albums/songs from your phone. My entire Apple Music library used to be viewable from the watch. Am I missing something?

Need input on how this is running on Iphone7? Anyone here with Iphone 7 with iOS11 running? Any glitches that I have to be worried about? The BETA broke my phone and had to go through a lot of different channels to get the phone replaced. Thus waiting to find out if the phone needs to be updated!

Been on iOS 11 since beta 1 on my Plus and am now on the GM and it has worked fine for me since the start.

If you're on 10 right now, you should be fine with the final version.

My phone has a bug and now I can’t power it off. I can’t access any apps-the touch screen is not responsive and holding down the lock button does nothing. Help!

Hold lock + home till it shuts off.

Like I said, holding the lock button does nothing. You can press it to wake the phone, but holding it has no effect.
You held it with the home button? Cause every time my device gets unresponsive, lock+home still works.

Did Apple change how bookmarklets or Javascript work in Safari now? I want to double check if maybe I'm just encountering a bug or not. Can someone save

THIS

as a bookmark, and on their NeoGAF subscription page let me know if it opens in tabs all unread threads? That's what it used to do and what it's supposed to do, but now it only open just one link and not more.

Fully updated on both my 6S+ and my 5S (my poor 5S had over 100+ apps to update lol) and everything's running fine.

I dare say that my 5S seems to be running even faster on 11 than on 10, and it did pretty well on 10. My 6S+ is running even better now and the battery seems improved overall.

This happened to me. I hit power and volume down (For iPhone 7) until it hard reset. Not sure how a bug like this made it into general release.

The App Store is truly beautiful and should be the template for iOS 12.

While I don't think it looks bad I think it's way less useful than before.
Because everything is so big you usually just see one app at a time.

Also when going into different categories you can't see newest or last updated apps anymore. Just the most popular sold and free apps.
That's really bad for discovering new and exciting apps.

i like the ipad changes.

this thing runs like ass on my 5s though. lots of app freezes when launching apps and general sluggishness. hoping its just a matter of apps needing updates to better support ios 11 but i know my phone is pretty much the minimum req at this point.

also don't think i like the looks of the control center at all. it looks really ugly and seems to take extra taps to get to stuff like music player. might just be missing something though

It’s just so convenient. Pairing is stupid easy too. Probably my unsung hero of iOS 11 tbh

And it comes just in time when I’m binge watching Friday night lights before it gets yanked from Netflix
Yup, same here. Was waiting for that for a long time since I always felt the app is absolutely not needed for what it does.

Another cool thing is tapping with two fingers on a link to open in new tab in Safari. Needs some time to get used to it, but it's a useful tool imo.

I've never seen functionality like you describe - whenever I've made a call in the past, it was left on the hangup/speaker/mute etc. screen by default (I took special note of it because I'd rather it stay on the phone keyboard screen).

Same thing happened on my iPad Air 2 when I had safari open and I tried to make iMessages a PIP hover thing. It happens every time I try to do it.

Is it a bug or did they simply remove the bedtime alarm going off on the Apple Watch? It only notifies the phone now... I guess I should try rebooting both and see if that fixes it.

Edit: phew, reboot for both devices fixed it...

Super pleased with watchOS 4 and iOS 11 (5S) so far. Everything runs very well and feels smoother. We’ll see how battery life fares today, both had a whole night to get their background stuff going. Particularly interested in the Watch battery life, my 5S battery is 4 yo at this point so it has been bad before.

I should specify, this is only for longer calls where the phone screen turns off. I nearly always talk with either a headset, on speaker, or through my car's bluetooth so basically every call my phone's screen will turn off during the call. Then if I hit the power button or raise to wake my phone, it used to show the lock screen. Now, with iOS 11 it shows the phone menu (mute, speaker, hang up etc) and I hate it. I guess it is a specific issue since I'm guessing many people talk on the phone while actually.. holding the phone.

So the new watchOS 4 faces are not available on Series 0 right? Can’t find them.
I’m rocking the Siri watch face right now and the toy story and kaleidoscope ones are available too.

Has anyone been able to get homescreen multitouch app icon organising to work in ios11? I remember at the press conference they demoed grouping a number of apps into a folder with multitouch, but I can't for the life of me get it to work. (10.5 ipad)

If you can't shutoff your phone, you need to do a hard shutdown

Power button + Volume Down until your screen turns off

Edit: Late to the party. Anyway, I had a touchscreen failure on iOS10 once, shutdown fixed it. Annoying though, obviously

Anyone else’s Files app not showing the “On my ipad” option? I don’t have it on my pro 10.5 or 7.

I was hopeful I could use the app to finally back up iPad save games to google drive...

I can’t find out if I am going insane or not, but this morning I went for a walk, headphones on. Listened to songs on music - not streamed, my own encoded AAC files - and they sounded amazing. So punchy. I’ve looked at the settings and there’s nothing happened to the mixer or whatever. It’s just sounding brilliant. Is that me going insane, or have they changed something about it? I can’t find anything via the google.

Yes, you have to go into full wiggle mode, not just start dragging. When you grab the first wiggling icon you can then pick up others and move them as a group

They added support for a bunch of new file types, including FLAC and the like. You’re sure they’re AAC?

FWIW I haven’t noticed anything different about how music sounds

What's the consensus on Air 2 performance? Any new features not supported on Air 2?

Probably won't update depending on answers.

My Air 2 is flying along. It's a little laggy at the moment, due to an App Store crash related to an App I bought (Retouch Touch), but I've been using the GM for a few days now, and it's good, with no noticable battery issues.

Not sure about unsupported features, other than no HEIF/HEVC encoding on pictures/videos. That apparently needs an A11 cpu?

Positive. It’s entirely possible it’s my brain doing stupid placebo stuff, but it’s never done that on previous updates etc. Just sounds punchier. Huh.

It's really fast. I am starting to get used to the new features. Not sure if there are any that aren't supported. It is a bit buggy though, I have had it freeze up on me twice necessitating a hard reset. That never happened to me on previous iOSs but the OS makes it feel like a new iPad

Dear lord is this ugly, taking the gross Music app design and applying it to everything else.

Not as bad as I expected, but performance definitely took a slight hit on my iPhone 6. (Edit: Having a distressing number of “pausing for a few seconds before text inputs finally register” moments on this.)

The battery indicator on my 6+ is just in free fall mode. Which is weird cause the phone doesn’t even get warm or anything. Is this just a calibration thing?

The one handed keyboard is really nice btw.

The loss of the 3D touch multitasking gesture is nearly enough to make me go back to iOS 10. I used it to switch apps 100% of the time and now Apple wants me to go back to double tapping the home button like a pleb.
