It took months for the NES mini software mod to be as reliable as it is now.

SNES one should hopefully be quicker given a lot of the work is already done (as it's the same board), but there are no doubt differences in the software that they'll have to work on.

Months? How difficult is it to hack the NES Classic now?

I'm not in a rush, can wait months for them to hack the SNES Classic properly.

On the US/EU consoles I don't think there are a single bad game in the lot. F-Zero is a little slight and Star Fox is super dated at this point (Star Fox 64 is basically a straight remake of Star Fox, but with a good framerate and more meat on the bones) -- but the other 19 are unqualified recommendations IMHO. If you have a Japanese console I'd also skip Super Soccer, which is a pretty weak launch-ish title.

The one thing I'd say about your plan is that you have three action platformers (Metroid, Castlevania, and Mega Man). You might benefit from mixing it up a bit if you're eventually going through all the games. :)

Thanks all! I may slip super Mario RPG between the last two.

On a funny note, my daughter was complaining that the dpad wasn't moving correctly and I thought the extension cords I just bought were faulty and was getting bummed.

She's playing earthbound which I never played but I finally noticed and asked her why her character had a mushroom on his head. We then figured it out.

NES Classic hack has been fully realized and is as easy as connecting to laptop, running the app and uploading the ROMs.

SNES Classic hack will use the same principal and software, just more compatible with the new hardware.

P.S. has anyone tried using the NES hack on SNES, since it's the same hardware?

Rewind feature???

So, I'm sure you know that the SNES Classic has a "suspend" feature, right? You hit the reset button on the console, press down, and then "Y", and you basically save at the exact point.

As well as that, it includes a "rewind" feature. You hit reset on the console, press down and then X I believe (it's labeled at the bottom so just double check). It then rewinds up to one minute or so.

So for me, I died during a boss fight in Mega Man X. Normally, I would have to restart the whole level all over. But because of the rewind feature, I was able to rewind to about the start of the boss fight and get a second chance.

The software for the NES mini has been fully functional for quite a while now. To actually add extra games to the NES mini is now a very easy process.

Unless something weird crops up I'd assume it will only be days or weeks for the SNES version, given a lot of the heavy lifting was already done for the NES mini. Really just depends on the differences between the kernels.

Thank you! For that rewind feature. My first time playing mega man x and I had no idea how to deal with chill penguin, and I went in with 3/4 health. I died pretty soon after :(. Then it kicked me out to the level select screen and I was about to close my SNES and probably not give MMX another go in awhile.

Then I saw the rewind feature, clicked it. Dropped me back in the boss fight. I had to do one more rewind but I nailed it on my 3rd try.

How old are you to so quickly to give up on the first boss of MMX? I am not sure if the 16bit generation is one that will serve you well. You may want to stick to basically 360 and further where you basically can not die.

Can't wait to read in 20 years in the Wii Classic OT about how someone's daughter is wondering why the motion controls aren't moving correctly

I just started playing Secret of Mana, wow, how did this great little game pass me by in my youth? Love the opening story (man vs nature/tech is one of my favorite story tropes, how appropriate after just seeing Nausicaa in theaters earlier this week), just got my sword and am exploring the first village. I still have my SoM Nintendo Power from 1993 somewhere.

Only gripes about this great little device game wise so far is lack of Chrono Trigger and no shmups. You'd think Gradius III would've at least made it in. First thing I'm doing when mods are out is adding CT, Terranigma, Dragon Quest 1-3 remakes, Gradius III, Super R-TYPE, and Space Mega Force.

Umm, I'm in my 20s? And no, I actually started playing video games in the 16 bit era. But I'm not a kid anymore, and I'd rather not spend all my free time today on a game I've never played where I die a lot. If I had more time in my day, I actually wouldn't mind learning the mechanics and mastering the game.

But okay thanks, I'll go pick up an Xbox 360 today! I can't wait to play all those games where I don't die! Thanks dude.

Current gen has spoiled me. I had no problem doing it back in the day, but man, that controller is not comfortable to hold by today's standards.

September 25th. Mine said October 17.

Man, checked my mailbox just now too. Nothing yet.

Would've been nice to have gotten them today before spending $20 on the crappy 6 feet cables Gamestop has.

They said they accept open box returns, so I'm hoping it'll be a smooth process once the 10 footers arrive (along with the 8bitdo I ordered just now).

Playing Star Fox for the first time and I’m really surprised at how similar it is to star fox 64. Feels like im playing a demake.

Also I couldve sworn ive played Super Punch-Out! before but I must be thinking of the nes and arcade games. Im finding so many new (to me) classics!

That's because SF64 is a remake of the first Star Fox.

If you can play SoM with a friend it makes a great game even better. Wish you could play 3 player on the mini.

I agree completely about Gradius 3 or Super R-Type. I would have had one of them instead of SGnG. I also really wish SimCity was on it.

Awesome, I played wired yesterday and most of today, i've been playing wireless for the last two hours. I don't see any difference. Have fun, this is totally the way to play.
Glad I’m not alone. I can’t tell a difference wired vs wireless but sometimes fear maybe I’m just not discerning enough.

Part of me really wants the SNES Mini Classic and another is saying just hold off and buy this controller to compliment OpenEmu on the new MacBook Pro I just bought.

I'm going to get shot, but Kirby's Dream Course is the elusive "bad game" on this thing.

I've played it in the past and never got in with it, and tried again just now. Level 1 was fine, but then level 2 things went to crap and then I fell off the edge. It and I just don't get on, and I hate it.
Even as a kid, I had a love/hate relationship with the game. You're either having fun or feeling really frustrated that your shot was just EVER SO SLIGHTLY OFF, even worse when you complete a set of levels to realize "lol you missed the par by so much."

I tried going back to it via Wii U VC & my feelings haven't changed since. Never got to try the multiplayer.

I definitely plan on trying the multiplayer when I can. I'm actually just about to bring my Classic to a friend's house, unfortunately am too early in the game to unlock multiplayer based on what I read earlier.

If only SNES Classic had CT and Gradius III, I'd have little desire to add roms to it, device would be perfect in my eyes, ha.

Everyone keeps mentioning Chrono Trigger but to me it's the lack of Pilotwings that's baffling. Sure it's not a tremendous game but it's just so iconically SNES/Mode 7.

So i take it I can't walk into any store today and just pick one up?

nope but they shipped a shit ton. im talking 50, 80, 30, 60 units to various stores byvme. they shipped wayyyyy more than the nes classic and the shit was sold out day one.

im not faulting nintendo for that. they definitely upped their gane. now lets see if theres a steady stream of em coming in

Oh man that's a sexy looking controller.

I'm behind on the info, is it worth buying?

Edit oh it's preorder and 50$

Edit argh t drops dec 10!

Chrono Trigger is definitely a massive oversight to exclude from this thing. Though tbh, I'm not sure why there are so few games on it to begin with. Third party stuff I get, of course, but why are there so many missing Nintendo games here? DKC2 and 3? Mario All-Stars? What's the point in not including such titles when you can make space for not one but two fucking Kirby games?

Current gen has spoiled me. I had no problem doing it back in the day, but man, that controller is not comfortable to hold by today's standards.

I've been thinking the same. Finding SF2 to be near unplayable on this thing.

I appreciate the trip down memory lane and the music is surprisingly enjoyable, but I am actually mad at anyone that says Super Mario Kart is better than Mario Kart 64.

I can't with A button to use item and I swear it doesn't work half the time. Actually cost me a race because I wanted to use the mushroom at the finish line and accidentally took my hand off the gas to do so.

This really is a great selection of games. I find no meh games on here like Ice Climbers or maybe the original Mario Bros (Not SMB)

What's the chances of getting a good dump of WeaponLord on it once custom roms is available?

Chrono trigger seems like major over sight, maybe it was this or ff6 and square wanted their flagship series on this thing

It was probably something along those lines. In Square's case a Final Fantasy game and Mario RPG were obvious musts. As for CT versus Secret of Mana, while Chrono's clearly a classic, SoM is a multiplayer RPG which is pretty rare on the SNES (and Nintendo clearly emphasized multiplayer more on this machine, what with packing in two controllers). As good as Chrono is, the SNES Classic already has several turn-based RPGs available.

I was really liking the look of this with the analog sticks, but then I saw the price and release date, so I just got the 8bitdo receiver. I'll probably use the DS4 or the Switch Pro Controller.

Plus I think the DS version is the best anyway, or even PS1 if not for the load times.
