My wife and I are in Vegas (came for the DM concert) we had a House of Blues gift certificate so we were headed to Mandalay Bay but decided we were too tired so we ordered a pizza and stayed in our room. Just watching non stop police cars up and down the 15, trying to keep up with the news. In shock at the moment.

Unfortunately you can already tell what the conversation will be. If the shooter is Muslim, it's going to be nothing but hate speech for weeks. If it's not, then just another mass shooting, who cares. Meanwhile nobody is talking about the fact that no one should be able to buy such a gun for personal use.

The original videos definitely sounded like shots from multiple locations. What sort of weaponry would police return fire with? Nothing on the scale heard in those clips surely? Reminded me of audio from documentary battlefield scenes. Crazy.
Yeah, I was going to mention that the gunfire sounded inconsistent, but I thought that was just the way that the audio was captured. Bump firing is a very inaccurate way of shooting unless the shooter had the weapon hoisted on a bipod system.
I remember researching bump firing with an SKS and it was interesting how easy it was to modify it to do so.

Worth remembering there's a lot of tall buildings and open spaces. A lot of room for sounds to echo and lead to audio illusions of more than one location. Hopefully that's the case.

It's a combination of echos/sonic reports from the bullets, ricochets, etc.
Police Radio reported they spotted a device. Told officers to keep their distance. Haven't heard anything else in 30+ minutes.
Dunno what kind of weapons Las Vegas Metro has but my brother is a police officer and he has a full auto M4 in his police car.
He's on the SWAT team but I think every officer in the department has one.

Based on the length of the sound and inconsistency of the speed between the shots, it almost sounds belt fed.
It could've been sound echoing off of buildings making it sound like multiple shooters.
There are many things that look like an explosive device in Vegas.
Please keep in mind that this is an active investigation and scene and that many of these reports, while not false, are extremely early.

I'm not very educated on guns but that AR-15 sounds like it's definitely firing a lot faster than the other video. Is this something that can change easily?
