I'm not very educated on guns but that AR-15 sounds like it's definitely firing a lot faster than the other video. Is this something that can change easily?
As someone mentioned, the weapon that we're hearing in this attack is a gun that was modified to shoot at near automatic speeds. The AR-15 you see is a true automatic with a beta-magazine attachment.

It is likely that the person just modified the trigger to make it cycle faster and applied a larger magazine. The only thing I could think of that is easy enough to acquire is an AR-15 with a large capacity magazine.

Yep

Full auto capable weapons are hard to come by and super expensive. Might be easier in NV but idk..most likely a modified AR15 with a large drum magazine

Ah okay, thanks for the explanation. It definitely sounded the same, just the ROF was very different to me.

Protecting vegas strip on nye is going to be hard. Metal detectors at all the hotels? That will put a crimp in the flow of people in and out of the gaming floors.

I was wondering why flights were affected but looking at a map Mandalay Bay is super close to McCarran so I guess that explains it.

Police Radio announced 5 more criticals were just sent out to hospitals. UMC is now at Capacity and any further wounded should be sent to other hospitals unless its absolutely life threatening

I'm really surprised they're able to determine that there are no other shooters with all the hotels around there. I'm glad they came to this conclusion but that area is just rife with spots for people to hide out. What chaos.

Oh and I was happy (wrong word I know but can't think of another) to see at least these people had room to move and get out, trampling is always such a huge contributor to injuries with stuff like this.

I don't think there have been any reports of people being rushed to hospitals from other sites, so that might be why it's been determined that it was just the one shooter?

Yeah that's a good point. When I think of Vegas, I just think of one hotel next to another, and another, etc. They're not as close as I think they are which I didn't think about until now.

It's about 2 miles south. The airport is never more than 20 minutes away from anywhere on the Strip corridor. The last thing the authorities need is for someone to escape to another city by plane as this was clearly a thought out attack.

Man my first night in Vegas and this happens. Luckily I was still at the Rio when it happened. Got turned around on my way back to the Strip thinking it was some robbery kind of deal. And now I see the clips on TV. Damn. :/

Good thing the shooter wasn't sniping from that height. Nobody would have been safe. Also been harder to locate him or her.

Stay safe LV.

A nurse who was at the scene was just being interviewed on KTNV and said she saw several dead at one of the areas she was trying to provide help at. :(

Whoa what the fuck?

This girl says 45 min before the shots were fired, a woman pushed her way to the front row and started telling people they were going to die tonight before being escorted out by security.

I saw this live, she said it was a Hispanic couple and they looked like normal people. I wouldn't read too much into it at this stage. Could've just been a drunken altercation with some passionate language i.e. a coincidence.

I'm looking at a map. McCarran is much closer than two miles. It is directly to the east.

Still stuck at the Bellagio. Going to be hours before we get back to our hotel and can sleep this off.

Can't wait for the NRA to tell us how this wouldn't have occurred if the victims had carried automatic rifles, too.

Which is obviously why these mass shootings with assault weapons don't happen in Europe at regular intervals.
