Where this guy got a fully automatic, I dont know, but blaming this entirely on guns? If someone is that committed to death and destruction, they'll find a way. Mental health and religion is the culprit here, not guns.
It is fucking guns. You're not going to see a guy with a knife or bat kill 20+ and 100+. Fuck this gun defense shit.

Are they using the phrase "lone wolf" already

The white supremacist media also needs to be fucking overhauled.

I think that's more because no one knows further details now.

Lone wolf just means he's not believed to be part of a larger group.

I had access to the woman’s Facebook page before they took it down

Said she checked into the Mandalay Bay back in 2014 checked some pictures but it was mostly just her and a bunch of children

This man clipped off 20+ people in one minute with the flick of his finger and you think this is the time to bring up "guns aren't the real weapons, people are"???????

What?

Can we please get more information about this attack before you claim his motivation or his mental health status at least? The fuck...

So you think the issue is not the wide-spread availability of guns, the glorification of guns, the fact that heavy rifles are widely available, or the fact that it's a billion dollar industry?

You think mental health and religion are the issue? How do you come to this conclusion?

Blaming it 100% on guns is wrong.
Blaming it 0% on guns is also wrong.

That percentage is closer to 100 than it is 0.

Bullshit, but we have been over this already MANY times.

In my country you can't just get an automatic human slayer in the supermarket. A mass shooting like this has NEVER happened in my country because of that.

The fact you think people can buy fully automatic guns in a "supermarket" in America makes you sound ignorant and entirely invalidates the point you are trying to make. If you wish to give an opinion on gun control in the U.S., at the very least educate yourself properly first so you don't say dumb stuff like this.

I'll help with this one: fully automatic weapons are largely illegal and the only way to acquire one is through extensive permitting and they are extremely expensive/rare and had to be grandfathered in before being banned in 1986.

A politician was shot some time ago.

Tbf didn't one of the ex vice President shot someone too. It's never too late to start tho. Just make it more difficult to get hold of guns. More background checks etc. Anything just to start it off. What a horrible story my condolences to the victims

You don't blame guns even a little bit? He was shooting with what sounds like an automatic weapon at a huge crowd of people. You can't really do that with any other weapon - maybe driving a truck or other vehicle into the crowd.

And why religion? Don't make assumptions.

Take it easy, we don't know anything yet.

Every country has mental health problems. Not every country has access to high-powered firearms.

These mass shootings are frequent and ignoring the problem won't make the problem go away.

What can you get in a supermarket?

Not happening. Again, you are approaching from a supply side. That battle is already lost. The key is to limit transport, require licensing and training, proper storage, background checks etc... there will never be an out and out ban, and most bans just grandfather in the existing hundreds of millions of guns. You know what the AWB did? It made preban rifles and mags slightly more expensive. That's it. Gun control will be a grind and a half politically. Starting at "well just ban all semis" isn't going to get anywhere.

They did a ban in Australia, it worked and no more mass shootings since then.

Reporter on 13 action news said that the woman possibly worked at Mandalay Bay. NOT confirmed by law enforcement yet.

americans are not gonna "forget" about guns just because they are harder to get or because there's a fraction less circulating..it's engrained in your culture and lives in symbiosis with some many OTHER aspects of the american culture that the idea that it's just gonna disappear it's a bit farfetch'

that being said, australia had a somewhat comparable history with guns compared to the US, although minor, and managed to bring the situation under control reducing the number of guns with a buyback program..there's no assurance that it's gonna work as well In the US..in fact i'm sure it's not gonna go as swiftly for sure, but it's one of many necessary steps.

That's a defeatist attitude you have. Who is saying it's just going to disappear? I said filtering it out over however many years it takes. It's going to take a long time, new generations are going to need to grow up in a different mentality of gun ownership to help. If you start now then in 50--100 years time they'll be closer and getting rid of 80-90% is better than nothing.

But why bother, we'll never get up that mountain or cross that sea.

LVPD just briefed us in the Bellagio. Apparently they are going from hotel to hotel down the strip clearing them one by one and we won’t be allowed to leave until they are done.

I'm not even anti-gun in general, but no one needs weapons capable of murder on this scale.

The saddest part about this is nothing will change and in a couple weeks no one but the victims families will even remember.

If it was a black guy gun control would have been signed into law in less than 20 seconds
No, not even then. Let’s be real; there are racial issues in America, for certain, but gun control is practically immune to any horrible gun-related event, regardless of the motive and/or perpetrator(s).

I think "automatic human slayer" was just used as a term for a modern firearm, which are unavailable for supermarket purchase in most countries.
Doesn't necessarily mean he was talking about fully automatic weapons, and the semantic distinction doesn't completely invalidate the point imo.

But of course, we know that guns, while being a contributing factor, aren't solely responsible.

It’s also a euphemism for ‘non-brown’ even if subconsciously. Muslim murderers are never called ‘lone wolves’.

Is it? I googled "lone wolf terrorist" and found stuff like https://www.brookings.edu/blog/markaz/2017/03/15/can-lone-wolves-be-stopped/.
Many results talked about terrorists which were not white.

R. I. P

Terrible news, and what's worse is that most Americans are already desensitized to this kind of violence. I've no idea what some of the earlier posters are on about, but this is absolutely not a global issue, nor should countries band together to overcome gun violence. This is purely an American issue, and as mean as it sounds, you lot are really on your own here. I really hope you get your shit together.

Fuck. Off.

We're fucked up. We get it. Now fuck off.

Suspect name just announced on MSNBC: Stephen Paddock

Seems like the keyboard warriors over you know where got this one right, then.

Welp...

Fair point, and I fully believe we could do better as a country with gun control, but distinctions are somewhat important here. This most likely was not the act of a legal semi-automatic rifle. We'll know for sure soon.

How would someone rain death from the 32th floor of a building without guns? Like it or not but guns and murder are intricately linked.

I just don't understand this reverence for guns. They are an unnecessary, dangerous and stupid part of American culture. The negative consequences of mental health, religion or whatever your excuse, is just magnified by having easy access to such weapons. Absolutely baffling attitude. Think it's time those who defend them woke up and realised the stupidity of such an endeavour.

Last I saw the thread there were 2 dead and few injured, thinking something small in nature, this is a terrorist attack, hope the news labels is as that and not pushes it away if shooters aren't of pigment persuasion

By spreading this nonsense, you become complicit.
