Yup, if it was legal to buy a heavy machine gun in Wyoming, you could easily just 'import' it to your state via a road trip. As long as you don't take planes or don't cross the speed limit, it's unlikely you - let alone your bag - would ever be checked.

All truly legal machineguns were banned in 86 moving forward. Those older were grandfathered in. They are heavily regulated. This guy supposedly had a prior record, which would disqualify him. These weapons are regulated at the federal level, there is no getting around the ATF. This would be the first ever use of a legally acquired automatic in a shooting of this sort. The NFA has been very effective.

It's most likely a stolen or illegally modified weapon.

Reading around... 4 of the 5 deadliest happened in the last decade?

Sadly I don’t think it’s going to stop at 50. You get hit with a bullet of that calibre and given the amount of wounded and how limited surgeons in the area are...it’s triage at this point

I don't know a whole lot about metal, but assume they changed USA laws and banned guns - where would they go? Hopefully they could all be melted down and something useful made out of them. This shits tragic

Doesn't matter because it's never going to happen.

After Sandy Hook there is nothing that will push Republicans to do the right thing. An entire classroom full of little children...and they just let it go.

Foxnews is in full spin zone already. "Our last guest said this was a case of terrorism but we do not really know that. It is way too early to speculate" Earlier before it was a white man all their experts were calling it terrorism and they happily nodded along

So glad my country banned guns , sure some crims will still get access illegally but at least it stops any deranged guy from buying a high powered machine gun.

At least 50 dead...200+ injured...Jesus Christ this is so horrible I’m kinda speechless right now..

No, terrorism can be carried out by individuals. The difference is in the motive - is it to spread fear or enforce political ideology?

Just murdering people for the hell of it or because you got bullied or your gf broke up with you isn't terrorism.

What I meant is that this doesnt look like it was carried out by a terrorist group. It looks like it was a lone nut. As a I said before every act of violence is an act of terror.

What do we know about the caliber of the bullet or the gun? I though that hasn’t been made public yet.

They are showing pictures of the woman that was with him, but none of the shooter himself?

pictures of her are needed to aid law enforcement in apprehending her.

as always - pictures of him will be spread by media outlets throughout the coming weeks, don't you worry.
(motivating other "lone wolves" to try to one-up him, thereby leaving an even bigger mark.)

hmm, interesting. thanks for the info.
Still, that doesn't change the fact that the whole "gun culture" (just check this thread - people practically drooling over who can identify the weapon used by fire rate and noise) - no matter how strongly regulated - is the issue. In no other western country do people pride themselves of their arms possession quite as much, tie their masculinity to killing tools.
Can't y'all just resort to muscle cars? :/

Also, if it hadn't been an automatic, but rather a semi automatic - we wouldn't even be making this distinction that is not central to the issue, imho.

You must not know much about the US either, because that will never happen.

It's rifle caliber, for sure. That range and that muzzle report at that distance. Survivable, but not if you get hit in a vital area and can't get immediate, dedicated medical attention.

Is America will acknowledge that they have a problem with weapons or not ? how many people need to die before you're going to do something about it ? it's insanity, RIP for all the victims and I really hope the number of deaths won't grow further...

Let me break it down for ya.

50% of the country will be sick with outrage and sadness.

The other 50% will say it's fake news, or the victims deserved it cause they were probably God hating faggots, or it was a Democratic false flag, or muh rights, or now is not the time to talk about gun legislation.

What does the 'false flag' comment mean, in relation to this incident? Sorry, have heard that before but unsure what it meant.

A nutter would say it was someone paid by the government or Soros or whatever to shoot up a crowd to pass gun legislation. Or to make Trump supporters look bad etc...

Took this screenshot in Google maps now, it's from the top of the hotel looking down at the concert place to give some perspective of where it took place:

The Las Vegas has always been a really open place where there's no security and you can just walk in and out of different casinos, hotels, and establishments on the Strip. I wonder if now people will be scared to walk on the streets or if every hotel is going to have security before you can enter....unfortunately this shooter exploited the openness of Las Vegas to inflict as much harm as he could.

If the attacker reinforces ones prejudices: make hay
If the attacker appears to be unrelated: invent a conspiracy theory
If the attacker reinforces the enemies prejudices: obvious false flag operation. Staged by the enemy to make us look bad.

Just woke up, fuck. There are no words. How can you not be scared? Been there many times.

Feeling for those families right now.

Same here. Brazil's alt-right is trying REAL HARD to kill the disarmament laws we have, we do have a big numbers of deaths by gun fire here but mass shootings? Thank Odin we don't. What we are seeing in United States is literal insanity. I was almost falling asleep and trying to work some things I have for today and now I literally can't sleep.

These people's lives can't go out without some real changes coming. This isn't a simple mental health issue. This is an obvious gun control issue and United States need to make something about it. Crazy to hope that with Trump in the WH, but what is going on - FOR YEARS NOW - in America is simply insanity.

It means it's a conspiracy.

Like the people who think that the Sandy Hook kindergarten mass murder was a government stitch up, in a bid to take away their guns.

50+ murdered, hundreds and hundreds of victims, relatives and injured whose lives have been upended and forever changed. It's difficult, if not impossible, to fathom.

Automatic guns, or those that can be modified to become automatic, should not be acceptable in any society. They have no use other than facilitating carnage like this.

I'm far from this horrific massacre, but I really don't feel like leaving my family today :(

America, please buckle down on this..

Can't even fathom the nightmare this is for people living through it. Thoughts to everyone out there. Stay safe GAF.

Many can't even acknowledge what happened there, and twist it into a gross conspiracy theory. They're rather escape to some kind of fantasy land than face the consequences of gun violence.

Over 50 innocent people are dead, over 100 injured, and all carried out by a single psychopathic piece of shit.

But sure, let's hear the arguments that gun control wouldn't have prevented this. Because I'm sure we're going to hear plenty of that for the next two, three months already...

Jesus how terrible. My thoughts are with the dead and injured, and everyone affected by this tragedy.

Just sickening, there are no words.
