Is it just me being stupid about guns or is that way too fast for a semi-automatic?
Video isn't working for me so I can't see but it's easy to make guns fully auto legally and it's fucking stupid. They have some weird trigger systems you can just swap on your gun and it fires basically when you pull the trigger and then when you release again.

How many of the performers at this concert are "NRA Country" featured performers? At least one.

The NRA has, year over year, seeded cultural warfare. What happens when their sponsored violence meets their sponsored entertainment?

It does appear to be an interesting dissonance. The individuals sewing the chaos probably sit back and smirk from their offices in D.C and Virginia.

I'm just speaking from personal experience and statements from family, friends, my local police and detectives etc. No need to get aggressive.

Yeah I'm sure you really interrogated the coppers and detectives hard on that one and got some cast-iron facts!

Just don't push falsehoods. Research shows gun ownership started dropping here in the late 70s.

Is there at least any consensus to regulate guns as much as we do cars?

Stephen Paddock was the shooter. Google search him and the first hits show him partying somwhere.

So it was planned all along. Enjoyed that weekend and ended it then. Nutcase. Sad he was able to carry all these guns to his hotel room without anyone noticing. Its insane.

Nope, Australia has never had a culture of guns for self defence. We have a guns for hunting culture, that's it.

Very, very different cultures, attitudes and beliefs towards guns between the two countries.

Not to mention there are practical, legitimate reasons for having a gun, such as being a farmer working in dangerous wilderness. Shotguns and bolt-action rifles are acceptable, not military grade AR-15/M4 Carbines.

Crazy he was able to get 10 rifles to his hotel room without being suspected of anything.

But the fact that he was going into a hotel room makes it even less suspect. They'd be in garment bags, duffel bags, suitcases. You know, things that would look odd being wheeled around...except at a hotel where it would be perfectly normal.

Holy fucking shit, we seriously have failed as a human race. Rest in piece to these poor people and I hope the injured make it out okay

Is this the largest mass shooting on US soil?

That's what the sheriff said. You can throw the do-not-disturb sign on the door and no one would come in.

Then this would have to be premeditated then. Like, they didn't just walk into the building and then looked out the window for targets - they waited until a specific event occured.

My cousin a doctor who works in the ER. They called him in around 2 and pretty much nonstop work since then. He said he has never seen the hospital in such a frantic scramble. They pretty much called in every vascular surgeon because of so many gunshot wounds, and O.R is swamped.
Telll him to keep it up and thst he's doing a heroes job. It may seem minor, but will help morale.

Sandy Hook was our "make it or break it" moment.

Alas, the deaths of nearly two dozen small children didn't even get one piece of legislature passed. "Truthers" decided it would even be better to claim the tragedy never even happened than accept any new gun regulations. If that didn't do it, NOTHING will.
I don't know if this is true, but it sure seems like it.

Make sure it's the right person. Internet is still full of the wrong people identified from earlier

The first link for me is http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/10/02/stephen-paddock-mandalay-bay-attacker-motive/

Also this. People will argue endlessly about the race or religion of the monsters who commit these crimes, but no one ever wants to talk about how they're always men.

I do it all the time. It's often part of the MO of any attack. Low-status males, or males who have an ideological belief that leads them to think they're doing something "good" for their "cause".

It's often younger males, so a male of this age is going to be interesting to see what they uncover from investigating his life/residence/family/friends.

Probably. Today Show had someone speculating that he waited. I'm not too familiar with country music, but apparently tonight was the big headliners for the event, and they said it probably would have drawn a bigger crowd.

Listening to the 2 minute video, the gunfire doesn't even sound real at first ---- it is so fast (auto-fire) that it sounds like a helicopter hovering nearby (i.e. bullet fire sounding as fast as the spinning rotor blades of a helicopter).

There is no need for a citizen to have full-auto M60s at their disposal.....

Of course it was. He knew that concert was happening and with the guns he had? He knew what hew as doing.

Even if the president and every single elected politician agreed, it would have 0 chance of happening.

Registries are largely non existent outside of the most extreme shit.

There are already 250-300 MILLION guns in the states. Yes 250-300 million as of 2013 (pew research link at bottom).

but the idea would be to ban them now, so in 50 years the situation will be better.

We're talking about full sized rifles. And it was emphasized there were more than 10. It's possible, but it would take some effort on his part. NBC saying he possibly checked in with the lady's ID.

If he broke the rifles down, it wouldn't be that hard honestly. And carrying multiple bags into a hotel isn't insane. It wasn't like he carried 10 rifle carrying cases into the building.

Lone Wolf wtf ? But when it's a muslim he's a terrorist?... My condolences for all the lives lost and i pray for the people that were hurt to be healed

Lone Wolf means acting alone, planning etc wasn't done by an organization. Being a Lone Wolf doesn't mean "not a terrorist", can still be a terrorist acting alone.

I went to high school with a guy with the exact same name. He's half his age, but I am sure everyone is still pinging him about it.

Probably. Today Show had someone speculating that he waited. I'm not too familiar with country music, but apparently tonight was the big headliners for the event, and they said it probably would have drawn a bigger crowd.

Jason Aldean is an A list country, top 3 act in the country music world

If this does not lead for a push of gun control I will be pissed. Even though I do not live in the States something truly needs to be done. The 2nd amendment needs to be either rewritten or abolished entirely. I feel only the army and law enforcement should have access to sniper rifles and assault rifles, not Joe Schmoe American.

Little kids died in a school and nothing changed IIRC

God I want guns gone. My thoughts are to everyone involved and their families as well. I've been sick to my stomach all day because of this.

Here's the issue with getting rid of guns.

1) A whole lot of the Americans who own one would rather shoot anyone coming for them than hand them over.

2) A lot of the police (at least in my area) are the same type of people, meaning there would be trouble even enforcing it. Unless you're black of course, then they'll come get them.

If the audience had been armed, they could all have fired blindly at the windows of the hotel until the attacker was dead.

Why are Americans so self defeating?

'Nothing can be done about guns'
'Nothing will ever change'
It won't make any difference'

People are dying and you are all still like this.

There is no reason for a normal non-military person to possess any of these weapons, and even military folk should not have them when off duty. Fuck these weapons man. This shit is out of hand.

You can already see the new crazy fuck planning his next massacre right now. People are fucking INSANE in this age. There is no honor for anything when it comes to crazy people. The age of narcissism is upon us.

If you look for discussions among gun advocates following mass shootings, you will often hear things like, "it's the exact same ammo as a hunting rifle, 'assault rifles' just look more 'scary'. They aren't any more deadly. A .223 bullet is a .223 bullet." Or, "full auto fire wouldn't matter, the recoil is too high, you would miss more people than you'd hit." Again, being pedantic, yes these are both true when not trying to commit mass murder.

However, when you can easily modify civilian versions of military weapons to fire full-auto, purchase ammo by the crate full with no questions asked, and easily obtain 50-100 round capacity magazines that were made for military weapons but work with zero modification in civilian versions of those weapons.... you get Las Vegas. 400+ injured , 50+ dead is the latest update. 450+ casualties, single gunman. Again, 450+ casualties, single gunman. The last time there was that much mass destruction by a single person on US soil, it required an entire moving truck full of high explosives. All you gun pedants know the same as I do, if you are talking home defense, personal protection, or hunting, the last thing on earth you'd want is a fucking over priced AR-15 or AK variant. Their appeal is purely for recreational use or those who want to play soldier dress-up but are too chicken shit to join the military. No hobby is worth this price.

Just woke up to this news. I can't fathom that much loss of life over one guy. Obviously my prayers go out to them, but I feel so desperate to change SOMETHING OR ANYTHING about this government that will stop all of this gun violence.

Yeah I'm sure you really interrogated the coppers and detectives hard on that one and got some cast-iron facts!

Why are you being such a fucking asshole? I'm friends with individuals in those fields and they commented that they still get weapons from the 60s-90s being relinquished on a frequent basis during the surrender weekends. I'm sorry that offends you. By all means, link your research so that you can share information instead of just chastising people.

"From 1988 to 2015, Australia ran 41 state, territory and federal firearm amnesties for a combined total of 3,274 weeks. From the reports in which numbers were published, a minimum of 1,121,577 firearms were surrendered to police for destruction. For an additional 44 months, collection figures are unknown."

That's a fair amount of guns in a country of <25 million.

For reference people: My cousin is a videographer and he travels all over North America to fancy hotels to interview doctors and pharma people, in their Hotel suite. He has been to NYC, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Chicago, LA and even Vegas.

I've joined him sometimes to help him with his work, and most of the time he has two of those big ass camera trunks with him, he wheels those up to the hotel suites and no one ever checks them, I mean they even kinda look military ... but yet no Hotel (no matter how prestige) bothers to even ask him what's inside.
