GOP/NRA talking points this week

- Democrats have sunk to a new low trying to politicize this terrible event. This is not a time for political agendas but a time for mourning and prayers for the victims of this unspeakable tragedy

- This is not a gun control problem but a mental health problem

- A ban on assault weapons would not have prevented this senseless violence

- Arming hotel and casino staff and passing open carry laws would have stopped the shooter in his tracks

- Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

Rinse, repeat ad nauseum.

Guns dont kill people messed up people kill people and messed up people with easy access to guns are certainly prone to kill people...

So I guess giving all these people the ability to arm themselves is kinda problematic no?

WTF drove this fucker to do this? It was clearly premeditated, he made all these calculated decisions to do this, including the day he decided to check in and the exact vantage point (floor) and location of the room he requested to book. This was pre-planned and focused attack, but why??

I doubt we will ever find out why he did it.

Whoa, he was that far away? I assumed the concert was happening right below the hotel. How did anyone even identify where the shots were coming from?

- He destroyed the window to his room
- Muzzle flash
- Military and police already on scene when shooting started
- LVPD likely have shot triangulation microphones for such a large public event

They're not going going to propose anything based on previous mass shootings. They literally don't care. And they have all the legislative power. I don't know about Nevada politics, but the state government would have more control here.

NRAs make any decision in that regard costly in terms of votes.
For restrictions to happen, non-NRAs should care enough to become potential swing voters.

My understanding is that voters simply do not care enough.

That image makes it look "further" away. There is pictures online of how it looks from the balconies of that hotel. Due to elevation and it being a completely unblocked passage of sight, it's clear why aiming at 22,000 people tightly packed together caused this.

But there were already police on the ground and they were unable to address it as it happened.

It would have been highly irresponsible to try to fire back from the ground anyway given it would be hard to pinpoint the location and the rest could be others in the hotel rooms.
If I was there, I would have reacted pretty much in the same way the other law enforcement did.

Attitudes like that only perpetuate more mass killings. You don't need a gun.
That's ridiculous. What attitude? That I'm prepared to deal with situations?

I'm really interested in how this will play out. It was at a country concert where I'm sure there are many gun nuts. Hell, it's probably the place where you'll find them. I hope someone stops and asks whether the guns helped or not. They should figure out the amount of guns present and release that statistic to the public.

What a fucking heinous thing to wake up to. RIP to all those people just enjoying a night of music.

This dude had 10 rifles and military style ammo drums. THIS SHIT IS NOT OK.

killer lived a neighborhood over from my in-laws. Curious on the motive (not that it matters).

You could see people trying to decide if running was more risky then staying put. I'm not sure if it really would have mattered dude was just blasting away all over the place

The motive does matter.

Omg when I went to sleep it was just 2 not this much holy shit. Praying to all those who were impacted android for their families.

So sad. These music events need to be harder targets all around. Whether it's a night club like Bataclan(89 killed) or Orlando(49 killed)or concerts like Aria Grande(22 killed) or this one(who knows yet the number of dead) there needs to be better security for all of these places where so many people are condensed into small areas.

The shooter in this instance was in a hotel across the way from where the event was going on. The shooter was not on scene. Sadly, there was no way security could have done anything.

Just doing a rough estimate on google maps it's like 400m from that hotel to where the concert was.. No way anyone could've shot back or even seen where the gunfire was coming from so no one bring up that "everyone should have a gun" bullshit.
I guess when you're just firing at a giant crowd there's no need to be accurate.

Genuine hard cover (engine blocks, concrete etc...) is your ally in this sort of situation. Getting out of line of sight of the shooter doesn't matter if they're spraying indiscriminately. I don't blame people for being in shock. They should be. This shouldn't be a regular thing.

Everyone thinks they're prepared to deal with situations even if they're not, and interfering often causes a bigger problem.

Also why is the snake in your pic holding the bill of rights hostage lol

Critics would be correct. automatic weapons with silencers being used at a public venue is how 100s die instead of 50. The only warning people would have that something is amiss is the stampede of people running the other direction. Nobody 50 yards away would even know why.

Giving psychopaths eased access to suppressors/silencers will be a mega-tragedy waiting to happen.

For the uninitiated, in order to get a silencer (a Class 3 weapon) now you have to pay a big fee, get approval from your local sherrif, and have them submit a form to the ATF. Then you have to wait like 3 or 4 months or something like that. Then you get to look forward to a life of annual or semi-annual visits from the ATF to review the condition and securement of your class 3 item.
You watch too many movies if you think that silencers are a "mega-tragedy waiting to happen". I'm not going to defend firearms here but asserting that silencers enable mass shooters is misinformation at best. This has been repeatedly debunked on GAF multiple times, we had a good thread here you should investigate that discussed the (then proposed) legislation that would ease regulations on them.

What could’ve been done? The guy was shooting from a hotel room over the crowd. There’s nothing anyone could’ve done security wise to stop this or lesson the number of victims. They were sitting ducks.

The hotels could do bag searches, but I doubt that would go over well.

That's quite a fantasy you have there. Have you looked into what law enforcement did in this case? The shooter killed himself before you got there. Your handgun would've saved exactly no one

Imagine if folks on the ground with guns just opened up into Mandalay Bay. The loss of life would be even more staggering.

More confirmation the woman is NOT a POI anymore, so if you see anyone saying so correct them

they're only your ally if you know what direction the fire is coming from, though. it's incredibly likely that these people did not, given the inevitable echos and distance.

I hope they don't politicize this, as in blaming a "side" for the actions of one insane man.

But who am I kidding, I know full well Trump will blame the Left for this somehow...

Dow Jones says 406 taken to hospital and evidently there were at least 10 rifles in his hotel room.

Mr. Lombardo said police found at least 10 rifles in Mr. Paddock's room, and that officers were also at his residence.

I woke up to this news and I’m just sick.. frozen and beyond sad.

This is the America my 5 year old daughter is inheriting.

I can’t wait to hear the narrative that antifi and black lives is responsible for the narrative of violence.

Oh OK, that makes sense.

Was he on a balcony? I was confused from the start because I never noticed any on Mandalay Bay when I stayed next door at the Luxor.
