Mass shooting at the Mandalay Bay Las Vegas; 58 dead, 500+ injured.

I doubt he had true fully automatic weapons. He likely had a gat crank mod on an AR-15. The rate of fire in some of the videos was irregular. Seems very likely to be a semi-auto rifle that was modded.

Now some of these mods are legal now and may be banned. But a gat crank could be a DIY job if you have the skills and tools.

Another possibility is a bump stock mod.

I think you are on to something. These mods should be illegal with the same felony status of having a unregistered fully automatic gun. I also think there should be required "gun insurance" that owners pay into like we require car insurance.

Sickening, literally makes me want to throw up.

I go to festivals and concerts frequently and this is slowly becoming my worst nightmare.

The logistics are mind boggling.. especially when Vegas has pretty serious surveillance to prevent gambling cheats and the like

There is however nothing checking what you are bringing inside. It is not like there are metal detectors or something. Only at the T-Mobile Arena did you have something like that.

I think his room was a suite because I stayed at Mandalay Bay in a similar location. How was he able to break the windows? Those things are tough

He was shooting from a balcony I believe, no window breaking involved.

Most people are GOING to have metal in their traveling suitcases, security would have to be airport TSA levels (xrays of everything, etc) to detect guns going in. I could see a security system evolve though where bags that are TSA checked are given an unbreakable seal and those go through hotels quickly while other bags have to be rescanned.

Multiple per month? Fuck.
A good chunk of this country has a sickness.

Nevada even passed a law last year mandating background checks at gun shows and it was rescinded because the FBI threw up their hands and said that they couldn’t handle it. There very well may have been serious issues with how the law was written but it very much seemed like they just said, “That’s impossible!” And just swept it under the rug.

This random Google image tells me it's pretty easy.

I supposed that big fancy hotels would have metal detectors..especially in a nations with tons of guns around like the US, i was wrong

It was carefully planned according to the CNN crime analytics as he was staying at the hotel for a few days moving all the weapons slowly. The weapons he had were illegal to be sold to civilians.

Is the bolded true? If so the debate is about to change.

I also heard he had cameras setup in the hall to watch for people approaching.

This is getting really bizarre. Either his brother did not know him at all, or he became a competent terrorist out of the blue. I have seen the police claim that they killed him and that he was already dead when they got there.

To much misinformation.

I'm here in Vegas, I work next to the Coroners office and it is a mad house over here. There are at least 50 cops blocking the entrance, news crews, government officials, etc. My work entrance even had a cop at the door....

I would like to know how the police determined the shooters location as quick as they did. I know I heard about law enforcement being able to see the muzzle flashes from the building, but as far as floor and room; I'm interested in the order of events.

I think the broken windows helped.

I heard a report on NPR that said they located him because the gunfire set off the smoke detector in his room.

the news site talks about dozens between rifles and guns..that's a lot of suitcases

If he has been there for a few days then he could have brought the bags in at basically any time. One or two when he arrived, another a couple hours later, maybe a few in the middle of the night.... no one would have been the wiser.

Really seems very unlikely that isis had anything to do with this. If he had converted to islam a few months ago, like isis claims, I imagine the police would have found proof of that.

Huh?

It just happened. Still lots of legwork to do. Not to say he was ISIS, but making any conclusions right now would be foolhardy.

Yeah, I'm gonna need to see more proof on the ISIS thing. Reeks of opportunistic credit-taking for easy terror effect without actually being involved.

They are reporting on ISIS claims. Not ISIS links. Stop spreading false information.

from one of your Twitter links :

Conclusion: ISIS, desperate for attention, will claim just about anything these days knowing their supporters won't believe govt/media.

This has no "current" signs of being ISIS related.

Its kind of baffling what his motivations were if they were not political though.

If he was a Nazi why would he shoot up a Country concert? That is something a left wing extremist would do. According to his brother he was neither, nor was he a shooting, or gun enthusiast. Could just be a mental break, voices in his head kind of thing.

Even if it is ISIS related, it doesn't prove anything that Trump has been saying. Like, Americans converting to ISIS still wouldn't be covered by any anti-brown people policy that the White House is trying to initiate.

I get that, and agree with that, but at the same time its important for everyone to have their facts straight.

I agree completely but the post was factually incorrect.

The evidence suggests that these attacks are both more frequent and more deadly in the USA than in any other country (outside of warzones). The prevalence of firearms in the USA amplifies these events horrifically and inaction on firearm control continues to lead to an increased number and intensity of these attacks. It's truly horrifying to watch this keep happening over and over.

All these points don't mean the Nice attack should be forgotten or ignored however

You both did not take into consideration the context of his post and only honed in on the statistics. I understood what he was saying while I read it. Most people on this board is going to know about Nice, France terrorist attack.

No everyday person is going to be driving around in a truck of that size, not to mention it took collaboration from multiple people, not just one. Imagine if there was more than 1 guy doing this, the death toll would be much higher.

The argument is that one person can kill near triple digit amount of people and is more difficult to stop. Not to mention the everyday shootings we have here in U.S is alone for us to keep the fight on with gun control.

They already have. Anytime a tragedy like this happens gun sales skyrocket out of fear. Fear that you might need it to defend yourself and fear that the government might make the guns illegal.

Gotta get a gun to protect against a gun!! Fuck the NRA

It's very easy to buy semi-automatic rifles and convert them to fully automatic. I'm mentioning that because people keep talking about illegal weapons - I'm sure he bought them legally, then modified them.

I caught a homeless guy with like 13 M-16 & AK-47 rifles, modified to fully automatic - along with 20,000 rounds of ammunition, an entire barrel of black powder, and grenade casings.

It's ridiculous what you can accumulate in the US. The only reason the guy was caught was because he made me nervous - he was a middle age white guy with no record.

He has one now, though ... Ended up in Federal prison.

The sheriff mentioned during a press conference that the window was knocked out with a something similar to a hammer. He also wasn't aware of anything regarding smoke detectors.

My sister and a bunch of her friends are hitting a music festival in New Orleans at the end of the month.

Two of them are considering backing out as of today. I'm sure it's a "heat of the moment" kinda thing but still, crazy to think that fear and possibility can ruin your plans so easily.

He was shooting from a balcony I believe, no window breaking involved.

Oh C'mon Dude! A simple Google image search gives this.. (You don't even need to be following the news)

And since when did Mandalay Bay have balconies?

Also, I am no expert in ballistic physics but... Do those windows really look like they were shot? Maybe? Could he have used other methods? like "putty" glass blowing, tactical shit?

My god this news is awfull.

Been sick all day and just woke up and read the news. RIP to all the victims.

Fucking why? That's all I can ask right now. Why the fuck would you so something this horrible to anyone.

Horrible thing. Went to bed last night hearing the first reports on this and two dead. Woke up and it's over 50. My thoughts go out to the victims.

Tired of sounding like a broken record on gun control.

Fell asleep after they said 20+ dead and 100+ injured. Wake up to 58/500 and the worst mass shooting in US history. Absolutely horrible.

the news site talks about dozens between rifles and guns..that's a lot of suitcases

This dude was there for 3 days. Easy to keep bringing in more luggage throughout the day. Also just keep the 'do not disturb' sign on the door, and housekeeping wont come in.
