American gun laws will never change. People will just send their condolences ans pray as others say "well if only we could change gun laws!" Knowing it will never happen. In this instance democrats won't do much either. They HAD a super majority in 08. They could had passed sweeping gun regulations but didn't.

So someone give me som real answers here as to what can be done? Minorities live with knowing the government doesn't give a damn a bout us and now non rich White people you will soon see again what its like when your government doesn't give a damn about you as nothing but platitudes are offered.

All you guys thinking UberTag is being serious rather than making a point as to how blind the GOP are lol

Uhm plenty of people have "made points" in posts and have banned for months.

And this was over like PS4 vs Xbox one arguments.

Not a post encouraging murder.

Agreed.

It wasn't gays. Or Muslims. Or black people shooting each other. All of those things large swathes of America don't give a shit about. It was kids. And they still didn't blink an eye.

Really, the only way the US is going to make gun control laws is after a civil war over it. Too many people would rather die than to give up their guns.

Single-shot rifles are pretty much the only thing anyone should own in the United States.

Hand Guns, Shot guns and any kind of repeating action rifles need to be made illegal. Period. Full stop.

This gets away from all the clip capacity arguments, and the stupid "what is an assault rifle" stuff.

You get a gun that lets you shoot at one stupid animal you want to kill and takes several seconds to reload before you can fire again.

But, we have a bunch of gun nuts in this country who think they are 1) The good Rambo 2) Need to fight their government like PTSD Rambo 3) Need to shoot minorities who are coming for them 4) Feel a large stockpile of guns helps with their masculinity issues.

So, we'll get nothing and like it. We won't even close back-ground check loopholes.

I agree with everything you said but torn on the issue of shotguns. Bird hunting is big in the states and couldn’t realistically be done with anything other than a shotgun. I think anything other than very specific shotguns that can be used for hunting should be illegal though.

O Reilly: Vegas shooting is the price of freedom.

Former Fox News host Bill O'Reilly called the mass shooting at a Las Vegas music festival "the price of freedom" in a blog post on his website Monday.

"Public safety demands logical gun laws but the issue is so polarizing and emotional that little will be accomplished as there is no common ground," O'Reilly wrote in the post. "The NRA and its supporters want easy access to weapons, while the left wants them banned."

"This is the price of freedom," he continued. "Violent nuts are allowed to roam free until they do damage, no matter how threatening they are."

"The Second Amendment is clear that Americans have a right to arm themselves for protection," O'Reilly wrote. "Even the loons."

Americans need to arm themselves and put out a hitlist on gun lobbyists and the NRA.
Shoot them all dead. And their families dead. Then, maybe they'll think free access to firearms is a bad idea. But probably not.

Going to keep quoting this post until he's banned.

He isn't encouraging murder. He is (a little facetiously I will admit) arguing that the only way things might change is if they are on the receiving end of personal tragedies. And even then its a long shot. That's the point he's making. He isn't condoning it or arguing for it.

This is a lazy argument. Since I refuse to believe this group of people in any way outnumbers the rest of the people. All you need is half of you (as represented in your government) to be for banning guns. The hard part is setting your representatives out of the influence of the NRA and that can only be done by demanding a stance against guns. Once they start losing elections for being associated with the NRA I would reckon there could certainly be a significant change to your gun policies.

You need to act, demand, vote and not forget to keep pushing in between tragedies until things change and I am convinced something can be done.
It's bigger and more influential than you are imagining. People were fine with guns after Sandy Hook. What makes you think this is going to be construed any differently in the court of public opinion? Hint: it won't.

I'm not saying "do nothing," I'm simply forecasting that this is what will happen regardless of the probably temporary outrage. The ban on assault weapons was legitimately controversial even though there's nor reason it should be. We *should* open a dialogue about it and I hope politicians do. I'm just grim at the prospects of that movement.

Yes I am sure the authors of the second amendment envisioned a day when you could sit 32 stories up in a hotel room and aim down on 20k people, hold down the trigger and kill 58.

Hats off to all the off duty LE that were present and provided triage care.

Hope some of these positive details emerge in what is a otherwise a very dark day.

No he is white so he is a lone wolf.

Since you are claiming that his status as a "lone wolf" is racially motivated, perhaps you could enlighten us as to what organization he was working on behalf of? What was his political agenda? Who were his accomplices?

Meanwhile in the thread about the terrorist attack in Edmonton just a few days ago (which nobody gives a shit about), the Somali refugee who was previously investigated by police for having extremist views and being a terror threat was labelled as "lone wolf" in earnest, with no opposition:
Lone wolf attacker, nothing really to worry about. Edmonton is pretty safe -- even 118th Ave, which has a bit of a reputation.

But please, continue to divert away from the issue of gun control in America, and push this bullshit "Call it terrorism!", "lone wolf, lol" narrative. You know, the important stuff. It's certainly not a hypocritical statement on your behalf.

Black man commits terrorism in Edmonton = lone wolf.
White man commits mass shooting in Vegas = agent of terrorist organization.

Look how progressive I am! If only those Republicans would stop diverting from the issue of gun control, maybe we could get something accomplished here!

This just isn't true.

Today's events are certainly tragic, but to say that Americans care more for killing over helping each other is just not accurate at all.
Considering the ridiculous military worship Vs the complete lack of action against gun ownership laws that kill thousands of people every year... I'd say it's accurate.

"SHOOT THEM ALL DEAD EVEN THEIR FAMILIES"

wtf? How is that not encouragement. It's a direct statement on what to do.

And even if, EVEN IF, you say "oh I was just joking around" is that the type of post that should be in this thread?

Unbelievable. Just really sad. RIP to everyone that died and hope all those injured recover.

These US shootings are getting crazier and crazier every year. And I really thought gun control laws would be stronger after the Sandy hook school shooting.

Didn't the right go after the mayor of London after taking his comments about terrorism out of context in regards to it just being the price of living in a city? Because in this case the context is clear and O'Reilly really is saying that you may end up dying in a mass shooting because that's just the price of freedom.

It's easy for him to make statements like that from the comfort of his home or his office. I guess long as *others* are the ones that have to pay the price then it's OK.

So... This is terrorism, right?

I mean they are going to try and spin this into organizations like Antifa or BLM or Neo-Nazi or Republicans or Democrats or black or white... But this is terrorism, right?
Terrorism is a pretty specific act of a person from one group (nazi, religious zealot, one side of the political spectrum) causing terror in another group (jews, gays, POC etc.) he/she opposes due to ideological/political reasons. So if this was Antifa killing presumed rightwing bigots, that would be terrorism. If this was a black person killing white people from a group he/she perceives is full of racists, that would be terrorism. As is, there doesn't seem to be a clear ideological/political motive for this that we know of yet (of course we might find one as we learn more) and thus it's "just" a mass shooting.

Really, the only way the US is going to make gun control laws is after a civil war over it. Too many people would rather die than to give up their guns.

When you put it like that, it shows what an absurd point we've come to. For some, life is not worth living if they can't do it with an immediate capacity for lethality.

I dont think any other image will sum the situation up quite as succinctly. Nothing will change. The absolute worst that could happen already did and if that didnt immediately change the situation then this or anything else like this wont.

If you arent already, get used to these shootings. They are never going away.

There's nothing that can be done about guns because the people who love them are set in their ways to believe in some delusional fantasy about their own combat prowess and that they're going to heroically defend off some imaginary assailant that they're paranoid enough to believe is coming after them.
But what if a powerful black with video game boss HP teleports from his Sin City rap house into my home in a rural bumfuck town with 99% white population, ready to do anything to my family? I'll need at least 12 guns dude.

Freedom from what exactly, Bill?

The Second Amendment ceased to be relevant around the time the military started using tanks.

"Guestauthor Paul Ryan"*

*He did not write this. Its satire

As our nation struggles to come to grips with the horrible tragedy in Las Vegas, it’s only natural for people to search for an explanation of how an atrocity like this could have happened and to call on their elected officials to take measures to prevent such terrible bloodshed from occurring again in the future. Unfortunately, however, we’ve seen enough of these incidents to know that some people will rush to blame firearms for this carnage and will demand that Congress enact sweeping gun restrictions, engaging in misguided efforts that completely miss the underlying reasons behind the violence we’re seeing.

The simple truth is, mass shootings like this aren’t about gun control we refuse to pass. They’re about access to mental health care that we will continue to gut.

You can already hear the calls from the left. In the aftermath of this mass murder, millions of people are once again pushing for an assault weapons ban that I won’t allow lawmakers to give even a moment of consideration, let alone bring to a vote. If these folks actually examined the realities of the issue, they would see that the real culprit in these incidents is, and always has been, our country’s inadequate mental healthcare system that leaves troubled, potentially violent individuals without the support they need, and which my colleagues and I have spent most of our careers seeking, often successfully, to defund.

The reason we have tragedies like this is because of how our healthcare system that I am dead set on undermining fails to serve Americans in desperate need of psychological treatment. Not because of a lack of gun ownership regulations, the slightest toughening of which will never even receive a single second of debate on the floor of the House on my watch.

Case in point, I’ve seen commentators cite the GOP bill to loosen restrictions on silencers that is currently making its way through Congress as contributing to an environment where these shootings will continue to occur, an erroneous line of reasoning that completely ignores how our party’s many active attempts to repeal Obamacare would make it significantly harder, if not impossible, for millions of unwell individuals to visit mental health specialists and receive the treatment necessary to keep their erratic behavior in check.

If we as a nation are really serious about preventing future tragedies, we shouldn’t focus on regulating so-called gun sale loopholes and outlawing high-capacity magazines, the very mention of which will elicit an overwhelming and immediate nullifying response should it be breathed on the floor of the House. Instead, we need to pay attention to the fact that many people with treatable mental illnesses struggle to afford medication or therapy, and then work around the clock to ensure that their meager options only dwindle further and become more expensive. That is where we need to be focused as a nation.

If we’re going to get anywhere, we must see this problem for what it truly is: a nationwide mental health crisis that my policies have allowed to metastasize and that I am working continuously to exacerbate. Not some issue of who can and can’t buy guns, all legislation about which I, along with the powerful resources of supportive lobbyists, have suppressed with exceptional efficiency.

Because as easy as it is to blame this unconscionable loss of human life on background check laws designed to maximize the profits of the gun industry at the expense of public safety, the real fault lies with healthcare legislation designed to maximize insurance industry profits at the expense of public safety.

Remember, it’s not guns we’ve deliberately removed all barriers to owning that kill people. It’s people to whom we continually deny basic care that kill people.

You're a fucking psychopath. Good lord.

First and foremost RIP to all the victims, this is senseless evil and I'll call it what it is.. terrorism. As a gun owner of a few AR's, and other various firearms I can tell you right now by just hearing the audio .. these were automatic firearms, not semi-auto and they do not sound like semi-auto converted to auto either. I hear large magazines of ammo going off too.. which would indicate likely larger than 30 round capacity magazines. I would suspect there was at least 1 firearm there being fed with a drum of 50+ rounds.

Literally all of the above automatic type weapons and drums are straight up illegal in the united states. To obtain such a thing requires specific licenses that require heavy background checks on a per person basis by the ATF. Think, Arnold Schwarzenegger .. and his tank. Even though you can't fire it, and even though nobody can buy these.. he did.. because he had the time, and the money it takes to pay for these kinds of licenses that are heavily tracked and monitored on a federal level. The average Joe in "most" states cannot and never will the means or opportunity to obtain these kinds of weapons.

That being said, there are a few states out there with extremely lax gun regulations, that do allow for auto-type weapons and drums like this in exception type cases. These are fringe gun purchases .. honest outliers in the context of over 300 million firearms in the country. But it does exist, thus someone "could" get their hands on one.. but this would be a fairly rare thing. Also, the kind of person who would know what channels to go through to obtain one would be a gun enthusiast.. and the shooters brother said he had no gun experience or military background. It doesn't add up to me, it doesn't make sense. I'm probably wrong, but what I know.. doesn't make sense.

I honestly need to wait several days for more concrete facts to hit before I can wrap my head around all of this. Its a tragedy on the largest scale, theres no debate in that. Whats odd to me is when I listen to the audio over and over, I swear I hear overlapping gun fire which couldn't be just 1 person. Couple that with early reports of multiple shooters from several locations just makes me question even what we're hearing from authorities today. This is an ongoing investigation and with absolute certainty, we the public know probably ~25% of the information.. if that. I'm sure the FBI are watching all the audio, analyzing it, and interviewing eye witnesses. Also, its Vegas.. so there are cameras everywhere in every casino, in the elevators, on the hotel floors. This guy or whomever is on video for days so the FBI will take all of this into account. Its honestly most likely this is just some lone fucking idiot, but the investigation could uncover all sorts of things about who was shooter, from where, etc.. because of all the audio/video that was being shot at the time.

RIP

I think there's certainly a distinction to be made between a terrorist and terrorism. I think you can be the former without subscribing to the latter. Not sure if I'd be able to articulate why, but if we're going by dictionary definition:

a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.

It's hard to argue anything on this scale isn't political. It's never just random. This is a motivated, planned attack with assault rifles. He spread terror; to me he's a terrorist.

You see, even if you want to make a nuanced argument for the debate around being able to own guns, it should never include "even the loons". You can own a shotgun in the UK, but it requires an extensive background check, referees (people the police speak to on your behalf to ask questions about you) and you have to renew your license every so often.

You must also prove to the chief officer of police that you’re allowed to have a firearms certificate and pose no danger to public safety or to the peace.

A shotgun certificate won’t be given or renewed if the chief officer of police has a reason that you shouldn’t be allowed to have a shotgun under the Firearms Act. Or if they don’t think you have a good reason to have, buy or acquire a shotgun.

https://www.gov.uk/shotgun-and-firearm-certificates

Being a "loon" would get you ruled out.
