Football powerhouse Argentina could be out of the World Cup this Tuesday

lol this dude saying CONMEBOL is easy to qualify in. Ok. Sadly, Argentina never clicked as a team this time around. If they don't make it, I'm for sure gonna miss seeing them in the WC but at the same time I always want a Mex V Arg match.

It's going to be so weird watching a World Cup without the Netherlands and Argentina. I hear Italy is in a tough spot as well.

At least England is in.
for the lols

LOL FIVE QUALIFICATION SPOTS
If Argenfuckingtina can't beat out the likes of Peru and others for a spot you can't claim it's some arduous region. It's hard BECAUSE OF TEAMS LIKE BRAZIL AND ARGENTINA AND URUGUAY AND CHILE.

You can't cop pleas when you have Messi and are a top FIVE side in the fucking WORLD.
HHahahahaha we have 4.5 spots:

Brazil
Argentina
Uruguay

3 World cup champions.

Lately we have Chile and Colombia with great teams. 5 already.

Peru currently has a good squad. Its like "the great Belgium generation" (in a smaller scale), they are just playing and getting unexpected points. No easy win against them anymore.

Equador, Bolivia, Venezuela: you have to play 3000+ meters above sea level. Paraguai has never won anything but they have that Libertadores soul so its never an easy match (they do well in WC when they are in).

From all 10 teams only Venezuela and Bolivia arent good. 4.5 places is actually too little for what South America can offer.

Is this the footy version of crying jordan?

I'm sure they'll make it to the playoff.

Could be said about Africa too. One group consisted of Algeria, Cameroon, Nigeria & Zambia with only one of them going to Russia.

Guess the WC expansion for 2026 will please some.

Jesus, looking at the points, Conmebol is ruthless

BRAZIL 38
Uruguay 28
Chile 26
Colombia 26
Peru 25
Argentina 25
Paraguay 24

Chile has to face Brazil, so that sucks for them
Paragay has to beat Venazuela (Easy)
Uruguay has to beat Bolivia (Easy)
Peru and Colombia have to beat each other.
And Argentina has to beat Ecuador.

All around is a clusterfuck.

Im Argentinian and I can't believe that we won't make it to the World Cup. I mean the matches that we should have won easily at home were fucking ties and now we must go to Ecuador and win or we are out.
And to the people saying that the FIFA won't allow a World Cup without Messi: shit is really tense between them and the AFA (the Argentine football association) because they're not happy AT ALL with the new president. So I really doubt they'll try to help us.

I'm chilean and yeah, at this moment Conmebol qualys is a nightmare, only Brasil & Uruguay are already celebrating, all the rest (with the exception of Ecuador, Bolivia & Venezuela) are sweating bullets.

Pretty much in every of those countries, you can find those "calculators" where you can simulate the results for the last matches this next tuesday and oh boy, there are so many possible outcomes, not only regarding who wins, but also by how many goals, since there are good chances of teams ending with exactly the same amount of points, so the goal difference is what will make the ehmm... difference :P

I'm nervous as fuck and in a semi acceptance mood about not going to the WC.

We only need 1 more point and that's it (to end at least 5th), but we are not playing great at this moment, 3 of our key players will not play during this last match, and Brasil has been amazing, so the chances to even get a draw are pretty much equal to zero.

On a more "funny" tone, some brazillian fans are asking their national team to let Chile win so Argentina ends out of the WC hahaha. For all of you that don't know, Brasil & Argentina are rivals like Barcelona & Real Madrid. They "hate" each other.

If you don't believe me, watch this brazilian guy rooting for Chile during the PK shootout at the Copa Centenario final against Argentina. That pal was as happy as every chilean :D

LMAO

PS: That guy who said Conmebol is easy, I just can't... -_-

Dont forget about the fact that Paraguay beating Venezuela doesnt confirm that they will go to the WC, they depend on what happens with Argentina, Chile and Peru.

We aint going to see such tense qualifiers in at least eight years, what a fun and terrifying show.

sorry guys but I fucking hate Argentina with a passion so one part of me is giddy af right now

The other part of me is a Barca fan and seeing crying Messi hurts a little

Infantino knew what he was doing when he got the WC expanded to 48 for 2026. Big draw nations have to get in and that pretty much ensures it in the future.

That said, Argentina probably scrape through via playoff.

I think it's more about giving China and India more chances.

Lots of money to be made there.

Paraguay beating Venezuela will not be easy.

No against the Venezuela that tied against Uruguay, Argentina and Colombia.

I’m thinking I will be Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia, and Chile. Though I wouldn’t bet against Peru. They have been the best team in th 2nd round of qualifying afte Brazil.

I agree, besides that, Paraguay usually performs better as visit cause they park the bus and wait for the exact moment for a counter attack.

This time, Venezuela will be the one parking the bus, like they did against Argentina, and will wait for their chance. They are a young team but with a lot of stamina and for sure they know how to "resist".

I expect Paraguay to win, but it will not be easy for them.

I just realised Argentina has scored less goals than matches played. That's inexcusable when you have the attacking power they do.

Grew up in Argentina and will always root for them. I've cheered for them in every World Cup since 86. Would be catastrophic for them not to make it.

Despite how abysmal they've played, they still hold their fate in their own hands. Win and they play the qualifier against the Oceania region (I believe it's New Zealand). Lose and they legitimately don't deserve a spot.

They could still make the playoffs with a loss if Colombia gives Peru a worse goal difference and Paraguay doesn’t win.

I fucking hate Argentina with a passion

Why?

As an argentinean with comparatively little interest in fútbol, I can add the following:
-As of now, most of the soccer fans in the country still believe we are going to qualify. That said, many are in a state of shock considering the pedigree of the country in this sport and the individual qualities of several players.
-The Messi vs. Maradona debates have been reopened and updated, with our former captain gaining the upper hand once again: his legendary ferociousness is now seen as impossible to surpass by the infinitely talented but internationally-underachieving Messi.
-In a very successful marketing campaign, a local TV company offered the "if Argentina doesn´t qualify, you get to keep the low-tier 4K television you bought last month, without paying any more installments" deal.

The Peru manager did great things with the team ever since Copa América 2015. I really want them to qualify. <3
If Chile don’t qualify, then I hope it’s Peru if anyone, that takes our place at this point. Playing some electric, progressive football right now. Fascinating to watch.

Like how we played before Pizzi

And Pelé has won three World Cups what's your point?

The point being that those players won it for their country, solidifying their place as legends in their country's football history. Messi hasn't achieved that and likely never will. He's no Maradona.

He cares more about his tattoos than showing up for country.

A draw is enough for Chile, unless a shitstorm happens. Peru, Colombia, Argentina and Paraguay need to win.

I don’t think Messi doesn’t care about his country, but he’s not a natural born leader. He relies on his teammates at Barcelona, but when he’s all alone in Argentina you can tell he doesn’t know who to offload the pressure to. It doesn’t help that he’s constantly compared to Maradona. They are totally different people mentality wise.

Chile has never gotten a point when visiting Brazil

As someone born in Beunos Aires to a football loving family... It really sucks. But it almost seems like a necessary wake-up call. The quality of coaching is abysmal when you consider the quality of the player line-up. And it's been abysmal for years.

As is, I think we'll barely qualify and then just get destroyed in the actual World Cup. There is no way this team will get actual results at this rate.

Predicting Argentina to draw with Ecuador but Peru will lose and Paraguay will fail to win, meaning Argentina gets the playoff spot.

Fuck that shit. With the shit show Ecuador showed this past few games I hope they play the u-21 so Argentina will go. FUCK QUINTEROS

I was too young to remember how it really went down, but I remember 2002 going with Brazil qualifying on the very last match in the eliminations and you know how that went. No idea if there were other factors at play back in 2002, but I'm irrationally drawing a parallel here and hoping Argentina will be okay.

It won't feel like a world cup if they aren't playing, even if they've been underperforming lately.

Are Brazil even going to field a full strength team given how they can’t be caught?

According to all the reports so far, yes. Tite (Brasil coach) will put the best of the best on the field (and that includes Neymar, if you're wondering).

That's the main reason for our pessimism (as chileans).

As a Colombian, this Tuesday will gonna be a chaos in every life aspect (Work, transport, etc.). That last game with those painful errors from Ospina was a cold shower for everyone. The initial plan (if Colombia secured the match against Paraguay... :/), was helping Peru to qualify (losing the game) and take revenge from Argentina in the infamous 2001 match against Uruguay. But now that option is impossible and now is a death match for a direct ticket to the WC.

But if Argentina doesn't qualify, oh boy... The day after, watching 90' Minutos de Fútbol on Fox Sports (and by extend, TyC Sports and the other Argentinian sport channels) will be a spectacle never seen before... XD
