Dragon Ball FighterZ - Characters, Specials, and Stages Discussion

I disagree with the hypocrisy. Caulifla likely would have been better received if she weren't Saiyan to begin with and was shown to be naturally that powerful. That she got both SS and immediately SS2 afterwards just rubbed a lot fans the wrong way knowing how difficult it was for Goku and Gohan to get it and the time it took (and even Cabba had to 'earn' SS). Jiren though ain't human and doesn't really apply.

Goku had to have an intense emotional trigger to achieve original SSJ

Goten and Trunks were born with the ability. And only their fusion could achieve SSJ 3 besides Goku.

I don't like the characters(Kale, Caulifa) because they're boring, but anyone who dislikes them because they disrespected Goku or jumped the rules of the series has some serious introspection to do.

and they're both way less wack than Jiren.

How hard was it for Trunks and Goten to earn their super saiyan status? Wasn't it just a total joke for them? Pretty sure that shit got tarnished AGES ago.

It's not that everybody get too SSJ too easy, it's that Goku took too long, he had to found that shit out by himself, there was no sempai there to tell him to focus about the tingling sensation on his back

Goku's the original cheater. Master Roshi grinded for years to learn the kamehameha, Goku was able to copy it within minutes. Roshi spent years climbing & training in Karin's Tower, Goku took like 3 days. Roshi earned everything he could do, Goku just copied it.

Goten and Trunks were done that way to add humor (look at the reactions from Vegeta and Gohan) and to go bonkers during the Majin Buu fight and all its ridiculousness (remember Gotenks and his pointed nose for that one bit?). That's basically Toriyama humor for you.

The U6 Saiyans for the most part, outside of Caulifla are pretty bland but its still somewhat incredible that Cabba for all his small stature was for the most part even with Vegeta but still had to earn his SS status with Vegeta enraging him. Kale is a Broly homage for better or worse so she's potentially the Legendary Super Saiyan of that universe or at least its equivalent. And Caulifla, without really getting angry or really showing that she works for her power got both levels on the drop.

I don't dislike them at all and of the three do like Caulifla the best but its easy to see why a number of feathers were ruffled over this. The whole anger at disrespect is more that she pretty much dismissed Goku and the U7 Saiyans as if they were nothing while she got her power on pretty much a whim without the viewers knowing if she has any background to back her character up for that while we as the viewer know exactly what Goku and the others went though (through several hundred episodes) and how hard they fought to get to where they were.

Jiren on the other hand is the mystery character. He's not human nor Saiyan and that adds to his stature for viewers for better or worse simply because we've never seen his species. His disrespect and how he did it plays him up as an actual threat which he is.

Hell, for the DBFZ if he's in the game I'd rather he himself fill up all three characters slots (at least if he's a boss) and his assist options are simply him moving so fast he's in several places at once or he does the "eye thing".

Goku was an alien all along to be fair

and I think everyone else did the same after Goku did. By the last TB I think all of his friends had climbed Korin's tower and completed his training

That's just kind of how Toriyama/Dragonball operates. When Goku or anyone achieves a new super special occurs once in a million years breakthrough power it opens the gates for everyone else to just reach the same level off screen once it's old news and obsolete lol. It's like when a JRPG just keeps the party members you don't use at a base minimum level as the game progresses.

DBZ is a commentary on how important it is to have a mentor in life lol

extremely low standards

You like Nappa tho :P

Again it's nonsense, because why are they getting so mad as if Caulifla is supposed to know (or care) about who they are? When they first met, they're opponents (from another universe no less) she's never met before in a tournament fighting over whose universe gets to be spared. She doesn't owe them shit. It's one thing to laugh or mock her a little because she's unaware that they're much stronger than her, but nope, some of the fanbase had to take it too far.

Jiren doesn't owe anyone shit either, but people don't hesitate to make excuses for him and say that he doesn't count because reasons.

And you keep bringing up how hard characters like Goku worked for the form, but handwave Goten and Trunks achieving the form as being "Toriyama humor".... Really lol?

You just reminded me that I want Master Roshi in this game so bad :(

Yeah I like characters with personalities that come through during their fights. Jiren is so boring because nothing phases him. Half the fun of shounen fights is seeing the main characters make a come back and the villain get their comeuppance, even if only temporarily. Nappa, Frieza, Cell even Buu could be surprised. They could get angry. They could laugh. They could be hurt.

Jiren doesn't give us any of that. That's why he and Ultra Instinct fell completely flat for me. The context is what excites me in shounen. Not the poorly/barely animated punching on its own.

I agree that its nonsense but that's simply how fandom works. People get mad at a number of petty grievances regarding the show they are watching be it be power, relationships, story, etc. You should have seen the stupidity during Gundam Wing's heyday.

Yes, I am. It's Toriyama humor at work for better or worse as its presentation.

they're finally here! SSB picollo and medamatcha!

I'm sorry, i just can't wait either!

Is it allowed to post modified scans like that?

Damn. Arc System taking liberties. I like it.

With the Kid Buu tease on Twitter, I feel like the upcoming V-Jump reveals will cover the Buu Saga. To be more specific, I'm expecting Kid Buu, Mystic/Ultimate Gohan, & Gotenks to be revealed next. I know I've mentioned this before, but I'm just re-iterating my prediction before the leaks come out.
What's this about?

Link?

I've not seen that much Dragon Ball Super, but from what I gather you guys want this Jiren guy in because... he's really strong?

Because he's the main enemy of the arc. The poster boy, if you will.

I don't actually think he'll be in though. He's too new.

The truth is that he was just involved in one of the best fights of Dragon Ball Super so far. Considering we are throwing around ideas for fighters in a fighting game, I don't think the reaction is surprising. Everytime a character(s) has a hype fight in the most recent DBS arc, people rush in here asking "can ____ be in this game?!".

Because his power is maximum.
But seriously though, while as a character he's pretty plain he would be interesting for a fighting game, he can send out his aura in the area around him with enough force to knock people over, he can punch the air hard enough to send people flying and he can do this weird thing where he hits people by looking at them.

Goku while Super Saiyan Blue, with Kaioken x20 on threw a full power Spirit Bomb at him.

He
stopped it and returned it to him by freaking staring at it.

His power is Maximumer

Where's Beerus-sama at

We need him so we can get Hit. I want him to basically be Wesker.

I mean honestly it would be easier if people took 40 minutes of their lives to watch episodes 109 and 110 on Crunchyroll. "People like him because he's strong" could accurately be used to described pretty much every Dragon Ball villain - it doesn't say much. DBZ villains aren't really known for their technique (Hit is a notable exception).

To be fair, you are comparing the complete "character arcs" of those DBZ characters to a DBS characters who is still going to be around and getting into fights for the next 20+ episodes. Might be better to check in when Jiren's arc is done (or at least leave room to acknowledge Jiren has room to do more still)

Just like my prediction for the Buu Saga reveals being next, I wouldn't be surprised if Beerus, Hit, & Goku Black get lumped together as being reveals for the DBS characters (maybe in time for Jump Fiesta).

I actually really like Jiren because they put a stereotypical "cool" guy persona over a kind of bizarre and non-traditionally cool design lol

I dunno, it works for me.

Wow. This is the big Super character atm? He looks insanely generic and boring.

You don't get it, man. People, like, do CRAZY stuff to Jiren, and Jiren is just like "nah, brah, I'm fine" and then everyone is like "WOAH, that dude is super strong" and then everyone fighting him is like "NO WAY, he is SUPER strong". It is badass. He is a badass.

Here's what I'm predicting not only for the final 10 but for DLC and a sequel, hypothetically

Final 10
- Ultimate Gohan
- Kid Buu
- Gotenks
- Roshi
- Nappa
- Ginyu
- Broly
- Beerus
- Hit
- Black

DLC
- Merged Zamasu
- SSB Vegetto
- ToP 17
- Omega Shenron
- Bardock

Sequel

- Jiren
- Toppo
- Dyspo
- Caulfila
- Kale
- Ribrianne
- UI Goku
- ???
- ???
- ???

You joke, but I mean, we could do this for a lot of characters lol

These are the only Super characters that have a chance of making it Day 1, anything else is delusional and unrealistic

I hated Jiren in the beginning, but he's so stereotypical badass and over the top powerful that it's like reversed around into me loving him.

Dude overpowered TIME ITSELF by glaring.
