Despite all the crap going on I still love this place as a gaming community

I don't really have an opinion on the whole situation with the owner... But I missed the fourm. I checked it out of habit repeatedly over the weekend and got disappointed every time. If nothing else I'm glad it's back so that I can follow a few threads I really like.

A lot of PoliGAF has found a home at SL&ENT. Great place and actually looks like what a redesigned NeoGAF should be.

Waypoint is also another place for former NeoGAF users, and it's cool, but they're actually a bit more strict in some of the topics.

And, well, there's the rumored ResetEra.

And honestly, most of us are done with this place. Shame, because of the community and history of post here, but I really recommend SL&ENT and other places. It's time to move on.

I'll lurk here for a couple of more days just to see if I can get in touch with other users who need a new home. But I doubt I'll come back, especially without Off Topic.

GAF has always been my go-to place whenever I had questions or wanted to buy/sell gaming-related stuff and more. I love the forums and plan to stay here.

Off to bed, hoping people have got what they feel off their chest when i wake up, it does feel great knowing i'll wake up to GAF again though. Not the same (never will be), but its back. Somewhat. I totally understand why some may want to leave though. Still love you all.

I’ve been posting here since 2001, the OT used to be great fun..over the last 5 years or so it’s become a disgusting political and social cesspool of place. Good riddance.

That said I might be done with GAF period due these disgusting allegations and the gross hypocrisy from ownership over the years..need to see how this pans out.
 
It seems like a lot of members, like more than half or way more, are more interested in off topic discussions when this place is for gaming news (at least it's what I am here for). Look at everyone posting now, it's like deep down, they wanted this place to be NeoGAFingtonPOST or FoxGAF (I am not western so I just grab random examples without any alignment to your so called left or right wing stuff). It's like they want this place to crash and burn .. lol.

I am not here for anyone, the owner, a criminal, a saint, god, trump, bill gates, doraemon, hello kitty, spiderman or anyone else. Just for gaming news.

This forum is for gaming.
This forum is for gamers.
Despite the fact people may dislike the owner or antics, a community is not just made up of one person.

I am sorry but I am not going to go join a new place that others are creating.
It is all about Neogaf for me, whether it is good, or bad, I come to Neogaf for all of it. And have been since the original Gaming-Age forums. This is a place with history and I like that.
 
i'm with you, OP. i discovered gaf by googling red dead redemption and following the OT for days until release and there's really nothing i like that compares to a good game OT

I hate gaf when it's a leftist echo chamber where people scream NAZI at everything. When there's witch hunt threads that goes on and on. When people are dogpiled because they have a slight different opinion. I hate gaf when mods enforce the lunacy in some of these threads.

I love gaf when people actually talk about games. I love gaf when people are helpful, enthusiastic about games. When threads are informative and there's good discussion.
 
I'm glad it's back and look forward to talking about games with the people who actually want to do the same. Time for a fresh start.
 
To anyone who's unaware: There's a successor forum going up called "ResetERA" that should be up by the end of the week. Similar in structure to GAF, and a lot of the old GAF userbase is flocking there.

If you're looking for a similar place to talk games, movies, TV, etc. that'll be a solid place to go. Plus you don't have to support Tyler, which is a huge plus.

I felt a pang in my heart when I realized I wasn't going to be able to find out how to get a hold of some of the people I talk to here.

Glad it's back so I can check in on my subbed threads again.
 
There are precious few active gaming forums left. It would be a shame if this one died, especially since I only recently was granted the ability to reply here. I just like to read/comment on my favorite hobby and don't really care about any of the other stuff that may or may not be going on.
 
I’m going to give everything, Gaf, evillord, all of it some breathing room and observe how this all unfolds. I won’t take part in mob mentality, I’m just going to wait for all the facts to come out and see how all parties handle themselves.

That's the impression I got when reading that Klepek's article about this whole fiasco. I guess you're right, although it feels like something will be missing from GAF's identity with no Off-Topic, perhaps only Gaming will be better for this forum going forward.
 
Yeah, gaf is my go to for gaming news, tidbits, and opinions. Even I don't agree with everything posted here there are some awesome people roaming it.

No idea whats up but its not my business. Just want to continue talking about fighting games, resident evil, and gundam.

I would like to support going to where ever the majority of the moderators are going to. They're the ones who put time and effort into this site and community and not Evillore. If the good ones are moving to ResetEra than I am too!

I echo this completely. I stuck to gaming side and generally stayed out of the community celebrity drama threads, and the expertise, institutional memory, and depth of love for video games was what made this place worth browsing compulsively.

But this weekend's shutdown was so thoroughly bungled that it's difficult to trust the stability of the community you and I treasure anymore, at least not here. Until now I trusted that GAF would be relatively stable and outlast all kinds of internal troubles or shifts in the industry. Without that trust, a lot of the prolific and insightful posters who made this place what it was are itching to pack up and set up shop elsewhere. I'll go where the content goes, and in spite of how community splintering rarely works out, I'm no longer sure it will be here. The massive volunteer effort involved in building the content-rich side of this place and holding it together wants out.

It's really sad to see this place crash and burn before Mario or Zelda gets announced as GOTY and destroy 80% of the hearts here..
 
I'm glad the site is back up. The community here is so large and active and is really just a solid place to talk games. And it's going to be fun over the next few weeks with all the big games coming out.

Although I do hope the Off Topic forum comes back as well. I need a place that will understand my misery when I inevitably miss out on an iPhone X pre-order this Friday.
 
I love NeoGAF for the gaming discussions. I never got involved or cared about anything else that went on around here. I hope everything cools down and we can get back to business as usual.
